The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

I totally get your point onceupon! Compared to other things, it is shocking how much emphasis is put on covid, and picking up as much as possible in as short a time as possible. Maybe this was merited in the past, but now it is a bit distasteful given what an awful state the rest of the NHS is in - yet seemingly infinite resources are being thrown at LFTs, PCRs and their analysis, paying people to stay at home and so on.

Having said that, I don't mind people venting about the process and what a PITA it is for them, having to cancel stuff or whatever as a result. It's not their fault they are having to do this, and it IS a PITA (you don't have to test/ isolate for flu, cold, chicken pox or whatnot - either stay at home if you're feeling grim, or otherwise go out and about as usual, maybe avoiding anyone especially vulnerable for a bit)! And it may well be a worry for the person waiting, depending on their own health, family circumstances or whatever. I'd get annoyed if they kept going on about it, and giving hourly updates, but some people are just like that, and it's not necessarily a big flaw in their character!

This doesn't apply to NS or other politicians of course, who should just get on with their job under whatever restrictions they have set, and not fucking whinge! Which tbf, NS isn't imo.. It's fair for her to announce it once, given she may have otherwise have had appointments today/ tomorrow which she won't be seen at so its reasonable for her to give a reason why (and do a bit of politicking at the same time, which is also what she does). It's really only the media which have picked it up and made it a huge story.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 30/08/2021 10:00

I am pissed off today. DS has developed a minor cough for about 10 minutes overnight. Certainly not continuous but given that school is in meltdown with the loads of staff off with Covid decided better to get tested to pre-empt DS getting sent home if he coughs once in class.

We cannot go on like this as a society. Surely we are now at a point to stop with the obsessive testing and treat Covid like any other illness. If you are ill you stay home, if you are well enough to go in to work / school you go in. Yes there is the risk of post-viral issues (like many many other viruses). I really don't know what else people want to happen - people have been pretty much vaccinated (if they want to be), Covid-zero is an impossiblity, the NHS and social care has been in crisis for years. And yes, some people will be vulnerable, but no doubt they are vulnerable to other illnesses too that we don't get quite so wound up about.

Rant over. I've had enough of my DS life being impacted negatively by Covid

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 30/08/2021 10:52

Don't really have anything to rail about but my nerves are shot to shit as I have a telephone interview for a job today and have no idea what time they will call at. I'm a tad hungover because of said nerves last night decided vodka was the answer 🤮 mums at the school wanting another lockdown. Arghhhh! One of those days.

WouldBeGood · 30/08/2021 10:59

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 Oops! But good luck!

When I was young one of my friends was so hungover she puked in a flower bed on the way to a job interview (as a nursery teacher). She got the job 😃

We had a covid cases confirmed over the weekend - parents wondering where the online learning is by 930 this morning!

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 30/08/2021 11:03

@titsintiers

If anyone needs a laugh this morning there is some footage of Michael Gove in a club in Aberdeen. I think he needs some dancing lessons
What he should actually have is a drugs test...then again I doubt being coked up would get you sacked from the current government.
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 30/08/2021 11:06

Thanks @WouldBeGood I hate that I don't know a time so just sitting about bored. Don't want to go to gym, shopping etc and look bad when I answer the phone.

Also I don't normally drink vodka 🤮 so I'm feeling very sorry for myself 😂

Christ why would people do this to their children??!!!!

So many people seem to have bought into the rhetoric that it was possible to get rid of this...... Its not that has been clear for a long time.

I wonder how long it will take some to adjust long term to this! Covid isn't nice but it's impossible to outrun it forever unless you never leave your house!

listentomydeclaration · 30/08/2021 12:07

Well, TBH, if my daughter's test comes back positive and there is no online learning set up for this situation, I'd be pissed off too. Last lockdown it was just exercises like colouring in or something else that only took 1/2 an hour. Its been a year. It should be better by now, especially as she's now in S3, national 5s.

riverrunning · 30/08/2021 14:21

My concern was that the school had come in on Monday morning and half an hour isn't long enough to action online learning.

I agree that the learning provided especially in the first lock down was very under par.

Scottishskifun · 30/08/2021 15:03

Railing today about Jason Leitch and "turning off parts of society" statement..... I mean Wtf does that even mean???!!!!

Its their cock up by delaying opening up to coincide with school return rather than a space out of 18-30 year olds then school return which has caused the sky high numbers!

Cannot wait to go on holiday and escape this shit show for a bit!

What’s this about 👆🏼 @Scottishskifun haven’t seen that today?

‘Jason Leitch, turning people off since 2020’

Scottishskifun · 30/08/2021 17:44

@onceuponawhine his words on the BBC news article about cases doubling each week. He's said short sharp lockdown probably won't be applied but might have to turn off parts of society to get numbers under control. With zero explanation of what this means!

shouldistop · 30/08/2021 17:45

They'll stop clubbing, soft play, concerts etc again. Maybe back to small weddings etc.

Scottishskifun · 30/08/2021 18:04

That's going to be fun with no furlough in place........

I'm really really glad they don't have full treasury powers I think it's the o ly thing stopping them from keeping us in a semi permanent locked up state as they can't fund it! Thank feck for Westminster I hate the tories but their tight attitude is keeping their hands tied with a lot of this stuff no way would half the stuff be open without it!

shouldistop · 30/08/2021 18:06

I wouldn't be surprised if they never let nightclubs re-open if they shut them again.

OnceUponAWhine · 30/08/2021 18:33

Turning off all the fun stuff probably. I would think it’s a tease towards their thinking for winter (in Scotland). Thing is, they’re in the spotlight over COP26, can’t stop it happening as it’s not their event, but can’t have restrictions ‘switched on’ for public or people resident in Glasgow during that time (I.e Global leaders…as much as NS would love to telt a few of them) so there’s not much they can turn off or on around that time? Although look at the Olympics, global event went ahead, during residents lockdown? I’m thinking protestors won’t be too up for following restrictions?🤷‍♀️

That sounds like they are planning the same lockdown / circute breaker / teirs / any other name you can think of.

However they'll have no money to fund it. When does Furlough end?

ssd · 30/08/2021 18:36

Imagine being early 20s and no nightclubs. We all remember certain clubs really fondly and some we'd rather forget.

Who'd be fucking young now

latissimusdorsi · 30/08/2021 18:37

I'm very surprised they allowed nightclubs to reopen.
It just doesn't fit with the whole importance of mask wear rhetoric.
Essential to wear masks when in shops, restaurants, pubs, schools. EVERYWHERE else except in nightclubs unless you're going to the toilet 🤷🏼‍♀️

riverrunning · 30/08/2021 18:41

Well quite ssd I doubt my dh and I would ever have gotten together without drink infused ill advised nightclub shenanigans, it must be dire now, social life being mostly online...so dull.

Lockdownbear · 30/08/2021 18:50

The point is if they try and close them again who's picking up the tab for furlough/ redundancy etc
And I'd lay a bet that young people will be sorting themselves out with garage parties, remember the days of illegal raves, which of course would naturally be covid safe and compliant. I think the days of young people sitting at home knitting on a Saturday night are gone.

Scottishskifun · 30/08/2021 18:53

@Lockdownbear it's already reduced but ends on the 30th of September.

I don't think they wanted to at all but with furlough and business grants being phased out they were forced to otherwise would be out cries for them to stump up the cash which they just wouldn't do!

I know, it's rotten for them. Dh and I got together after a night at the arches.
