The end was not nigh,and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

I misread that as DS is self-isolating and wondered why that made it a good day? GrinMaybe she'll get a postal test with no purple sticker from Cumbernauld and then she can feel like she's of the people.

starry Scotland which is 8.5% of the UK population has more than 20% of the UK cases today. Granted this includes some cases from 2 days ago, but judging from today's number of tests compared to the recent daily numbers of tests only 1 or 2,000 cases will be from 2 days ago. You must have be reading old data or have misread something.

I wish they'd scrap the indoor mask rule now we know the virus is mostly transmitted through aerosols. Unless an infected person is coughing or sneezing very close to another person it's not going to prevent virus particles being inhaled.

ssd DS was picked to take part in a free international course in Germany for musicians who are just starting their careers. It's being run over 5 separate weeks between may 21 and Jan 22 with internationally known musicians, one of whom is his idol, playing and tutoring: a fantastic opportunity for him. He had to miss the second one as the quarantine in Germany would have been too expensive and he would have had to quarantine when he got back too when his final exam was scheduled, so he/I would have been gutted if he'd missed this one just because no-one could send him a bit of paper to prove he's had both his vaccinations.

OnceUponAWhine · 29/08/2021 22:38

Why do we need to know if a politician is self isolating- who cares? In the public interest perhaps if they’ve tested positive, but I don’t care otherwise, it’s irrelevant. Someone I know posted on Insta last week ‘I’m back from my PCR test, wish me luck’ then proceeded to update us every few hours re isolating and waiting for test results via their stories. Negative of course.
Is it just me, or is this of no interest to anyone but the person and gives me the cringe.

ssd · 29/08/2021 22:47

@mibbelucieachwell, that sounds like an amazing opportunity for him. I'm glad it was finally sorted out.

Moved my London trip with the kids to April in the hope things will be normal by then

Had lunch in a cafe in Glasgow yesterday. One of the staff had no mask, and it was so refreshing to see a face! And to be able to hear!

I just wish the kids didn’t need to wear masks all day at school .

Lockdownbear · 30/08/2021 00:48

Why do we need to know if a politician is self isolating- who cares?

When the politician is First Minister and the self-isolation guidelines are draconian. Asking 5 year olds to spend two weeks in solitary confinement. It's in the public interest to know she who makes the rules, finally has a fraction of an idea of the shite, families and kids in particular have put up with over the last 18 months.

I've waited a long time for NS to get a taste of her own medicine. I got slated when I said I couldn't wait for her to have to self isolate, not necessarily become ill, just to have to isolate - solitary confinement - stay away from everyone inc your nearest and dearest.

Lockdownbear · 30/08/2021 00:50

@Explosivefarts

I just wish the kids didn’t need to wear masks all day at school .
I really wish that too, its another Horrible Histories story. Cruel when you consider adults in an office don't need masks at their desks why should kids?

Can we have NS surgically fitted with one?

shouldistop · 30/08/2021 05:49

@WouldBeGood if you like the theatre try to get booked to see the lion king when you're in London. I've seen it twice now and it's so good Smile

runningpink · 30/08/2021 06:29

I had tickets for Lion King last April which obviously didn’t happen. Was gutted

Maybe next time if they come to Edinburgh again

rookiemere · 30/08/2021 07:12

@Lockdownbear one of my big issues is that politicians have never had to wear masks in parliament both here and in England. Why ? Nobody knows. I thought up to now Nicola had telt Covid how big and important she is so it left her alone, but maybe not.

Lockdownbear · 30/08/2021 07:23

That is another good point. It really is one rule for one and another for others.
Kids have been treated like shit.

Anyone else remember all the nurse pictures early on showing what the PPE and masks were doing to their skin, appeals for knitted things with buttons to save their ears?

There's been no poor us stuff from kids very little sympathy - just be grateful your in school - teens often have poor skin acne etc and masks really can't be helpful.

Hope Nics finding time to think and reflect in her solitude !

titsintiers · 30/08/2021 07:54

If anyone needs a laugh this morning there is some footage of Michael Gove in a club in Aberdeen. I think he needs some dancing lessons

listentomydeclaration · 30/08/2021 07:57

DH is taking DD(13) for a PCR test today as she has a sore throat and headache.

I myself had the worst headache ever yesterday and couldn't get out of bed, it was that bad, better now but my also book myself a PCR test.

DH says he doesn't need to take time off work though as we are both double jagged and don't need to self isolate? Is this true? He is also thinking about the weekend away that we have next weekend to London (minus DD). What are the rules as I don't want to break any!

Hope she's negative though!

Lockdownbear · 30/08/2021 08:01

I'm lost as to what the current rules are.
But at actually think they'd be as well to drop the idea of isolating while waiting on results, it might encourage more symptomatic people to actually test and not put it down as 'just a cold'.

listentomydeclaration · 30/08/2021 08:09

if Nicola Sturgeon is self isolating, does that mean the party political broadcasts covid briefings will be done by our anti racism secretary health secretary Humza Yousaf instead?

Lockdownbear · 30/08/2021 08:11

Possibly but unless she does them from her bedroom.

ResilienceWanker · 30/08/2021 08:32

Just catching up with the thread! Lots of railing over the weekend Grin

mibbe - I'm so glad your DS finally managed to go on his course, despite the ineptitude of the certificate people. It is appalling, really, given they could just tie in with the UK system, and then he'd be able to get the details quickly, just using his phone, without you and him, and the people you spoke to having to spend so much time and effort on something that didn't work anyway. But I hope he has a great time, and he and his huge instrument get to and from Germany safely.

Sorry for those feeling under the weather listen and shouldi and skifun and anyone I've forgotten. Flowers and Brew and hope you all recover soon!

Re NS - wonder who dared to list her as a close contact! (and if they've been hunted down and reprimanded yet...). Maybe if her test takes 3 days to come back and she's stuck in her room for that time she may realise that actually the system isn't working as well as it could do, and it's a right PITA. Bet if she's negative she still isolates, though, just to demonstrate what a kind and thoughtful person she is (and how fortunate she is to have a job where that's an option and she's not going to lose pay or get sacked for going against the guidelines and not turning up).

ResilienceWanker · 30/08/2021 08:36

@titsintiers

If anyone needs a laugh this morning there is some footage of Michael Gove in a club in Aberdeen. I think he needs some dancing lessons
Grin Yes, we saw that yesterday and DH and I were laughing at the whole concept. DS shouted down the stairs "what are you laughing at" and we shouted back "Michael Gove has gone clubbing" and to my immense shame, his next question was not "who's Michael Gove" but "what's clubbing"... Blush It's a bit cringe, but I suppose he has as much right to get pissed or worse and embarrass himself in a nightclub in a suit as anyone else!
WouldBeGood · 30/08/2021 08:38

Do you think the self isolating is a distraction from a bad week for NS? And a move to show how serous the situation is when it might affect her?

OP posts:
ssd · 30/08/2021 08:47

No i think shes doing it straight away as boris and some of his numpties faffed about trying to get out of it

BroccoliFloret · 30/08/2021 08:52

@runningpink

That was our last "normal" night out as a family, it was DH's birthday in January and we had Lion King tickets for Edinburgh.

Amazing show, one of the best things I've seen.

riverrunning · 30/08/2021 09:02

The footage of Gove is hilarious - but otoh I did think if you video's any group there's always one that dances like that. Hancock's karaoke was worse!

latissimusdorsi · 30/08/2021 09:12

@listentomydeclaration
If you look on nhs inform the info is all on there.
But MY understanding, having had to look it all up last week, is if a member of your household has symptoms you all need to isolate until they get results.
If they're positive then rest of household takes a PCR test and, if negative, then no need to isolate if double jagged plus 2 weeks or under age 18

OnceUponAWhine · 30/08/2021 09:13

Oh I’m with you 100% on that! I just don’t actually appreciate the press attention seeking element of declaring self isolation before it’s for a positive test. Some would even say, a squirrel. But it’s not just politicians, obvs, I find it attention seeking over Covid tests, especially when compared to folk having to wait for horrific results from biopsies and/or very serious diagnosis, for which many are still on hideously long wait lists or find getting a GP appointment tricky.

That is a digression rail from the original pointGrin

Negative result announcement today = squirrel/a telt about how it’s still very important to listen to the briefings, etc, etc
