The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

Definitely my age too @ElephantOfRisk

ElephantOfRisk · 16/08/2021 20:27

He doesn't buy decaf tea as he agrees with you. He gets naturally low caffeine teas (green and rooibus/redbush) but i guess most herbal teas will be similar. He likes sainsbury's decaf coffee and treats himself to the Nescafe Azera Americano decaf when it's on a deal.

titsintiers · 16/08/2021 20:52

PG tips decaf is decent, I reduced caffeine after having a miscarriage and that one tastes decent. I like a decaf Earl grey and love rooibos too. Fingers crossed that everyone gets a decent sleep tonight.

Haudyourwheesht · 16/08/2021 20:58

I don't like decaf tea either but the Nescafe Azera decaf is ok. I also have chamomile occasionally but it lacks a punch.

runningpink · 16/08/2021 21:04

I’m glad you both had a good day at work @Groovee

I finish up at my job this week and still haven't found a new one. 😢

@Scottishskifun that’s great. I hope you get more days like today

I’m a weirdo who doesn’t drink tea/coffee!

But I am also rubbish at the sleep thing. Particularly worse last few weeks with too much on my mind.
I do find the sleep meditation on the calm app helpful sometimes

ssd · 16/08/2021 21:25

Im not a coffee drinker although i love a latte made on the dulce gusto a lovely poster from scotsnet gave me at the start of lockdown...i mean, actually dropped it off at my house with boxes of the pods to try...sooo kind of them, eh?

ssd · 16/08/2021 21:26

Ill look for the rooibos, is it like tea?

riverrunning · 16/08/2021 21:34

Like the calm app too runningpink, not that it always works but nothing does. Sorry to hear that re job situation.

Scottishskifun · 16/08/2021 21:38

The best decaff tea we have found is Yorkshire but you need to find it on offer as it can be pricey otherwise. DH is funny about his tea it's the only decaff he likes.

I like rooibos (or red Bush as I call it) but it doesn't have the same "tea" flavour aka English breakfast, it is nice though!

My sleep has been bad for 3 years I do mindfulness before bed which definitely helps but most nights I still have a few hours awake regardless of how shattered I am!

ssd · 16/08/2021 21:41

I can usually get to sleep ok but struggle to get back to sleep if i wake up early.

ssd · 16/08/2021 21:43

Some good suggestions for the alternative cuppa Brew

Scottishskifun · 16/08/2021 21:48

@runningpink have you checked out civil service jobs portal? It has everything from UK central govt to Scottish govt to all the smaller things like student loans company or ofgem? Most of them are going for hybrid working going by friends so it's more wfh these days.

I always used to refer people to it when I worked in a uni careers advice/student welfare as it usually got overlooked because they rarely advertised outside of that website!

Thanks ladies as well hoping I get more good days to come! I've also been put forward finally for a long covid therapy trial which builds on one I have been having privately so hoping I might be able to get accepted on that!

ElephantOfRisk · 16/08/2021 21:56

@ssd

Try to focus on relaxing your neck and shoulders and then the rest of your body and try to empty your mind as much as possible. It doesn't always work for me but it works quite a lot. It's amazing how much tension you have in your neck and shoulders even when you think you are comfy.
ssd · 16/08/2021 22:15

Thanks @ElephantOfRisk, I'll try that. Its just my mind that springs to life when i wake it, it just pings awake!!

ElephantOfRisk · 16/08/2021 22:28

Maybe you just need to get some adult pampers and pee while you are sleeping Grin Obviously no offense meant to people who need those....

I'm not good at clearing my mind so i imagine i'm looking at a piece of plain beige carpet. I hopefully get to sleep before I get bored with it.

Would it be worth setting a quiet alarm for earlier in the night to go to the loo so you have longer of your sleep ahead than behind?

Icannever · 16/08/2021 22:54

I’m a terrible sleeper as well these days, either twitchy legs or a buzzing brain or just goodness knows what else.
Getting enough exercise helps but it’s hard when you work at a desk. I stop drinking coffee at lunch time and I like pukka herbal teas at night. They do one called mint refresh and another called feel new (I think) both of which seem to settle my stomach and help with any heartburn if nothing else 😊

Lockdownbear · 17/08/2021 00:22

Parking my bum.
Sorry to hear the job situation, Runningpink I've got my fingers crossed for you.

runningpink · 17/08/2021 05:59

Thanks @Scottishskifun but I don’t think I would have the skills/qualifications etc for those types of jobs.

I’m sure something will turn up soon.

Groovee · 17/08/2021 07:13

@runningpink sorry to hear it. I lost my job unexpectedly 2 years ago. I went on supply for a year then Covid hit but I was successful in getting a job last summer. It was a stressful year though. X

WouldBeGood · 17/08/2021 08:08

Hadn’t realised the job situation @runningpink. Bit of a nightmare.💐

Glad to report i actually got a good sleep last night and only got up once!!

ssd · 17/08/2021 08:19

@runningpink, what sort of job are you looking for, maybe someone here could help?

randomsabreuse · 17/08/2021 08:22

My 2 year old throws a strop if I (well he) don't do hand gel at every opportunity. Pandemic child doesn't know any different. 5 yo hates the stuff so that's fun... Especially at a zoo where there's a gel dispenser every 5 metres or so!

Sports in general seem to be being pretty careful - I'm actually going to have to get some lateral flow tests to comply with their rules for competitions! Kids' gym is even taking forehead temperatures!!

Was in England at the weekend. Not wearing mask to walk into the pub felt weird and good!

WouldBeGood · 17/08/2021 08:35

Hurray for a good sleep @ssd! And to a better day because of it.

ResilienceWanker · 17/08/2021 09:01

Glad you got a better night ssd! DH finds that if he has caffeine after lunchtime he ends up waking up at 3am, unable to get back to sleep... Shock He's taken to having "girly fruity teas" in the afternoon - there's an apple and cinnamon pukka one that he likes. It's nothing like actual tea, obviously, but if you consider it as a totally different drink, they're quite nice. I've taken to having mint tea (posh infusion ones from Aldi are nice) as a pre-bed drink to replace hot chocolate Blush- more of a diet thing than sleep, but I like it.

Sorry to hear about the job runningpink Sad I hadn't realised your existing one was finishing. Is it childcare stuff you do? Have you considered after school clubs or similar? (sorry if I'm confusing you with someone else!) Ours had a quiet year last year, and a few staff left for other jobs, but this year loads of parents are needing them again because they're not wfh any more, and there's not enough staff and a waiting list! There's also not enough space, for various tedious reasons, but that's another matter! But I imagine others will be similar.
