The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

Goodness knows but I had an email claiming to be from NHS except it had a lady as an avatar and when you looked closely it was a Hotmail or Gmail account.
ssd · 27/08/2021 22:42

Blimey 🤦‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 27/08/2021 23:19

Yes, @ssd

Denmark lifting all remaining restrictions on 10th December.

Germany apparently just going to test symptomatic people and stop the case counts, just hospitalisations.

So that’s all good!

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 28/08/2021 09:18

I wonder what's making Denmark think 10th Dec?
It seems a while away to make that sort of decision 🤔

Germany makes perfect sense. We don't get overly worried about folk sitting at home with flu, the numbers we count are the people who end up in hospital or dead.

BroccoliFloret · 28/08/2021 09:21

Railing against Linda Bauld on the BBC this morning confidently proclaiming that Scotland lifted all remaining restrictions on 9th August.

Which is a barefaced lie. Face masks, capacity limits, social distancing in schools, work from home. But yeah, all restrictions lifted. Hmm

Lockdownbear · 28/08/2021 09:27

Where do BBC get their info?

Schools aren't allowed to let out their sports facilities until the end of September either.

Seriously what are the odds of someone polluting the gym hall with covid on an evening and someone being infected the next day??

BroccoliFloret · 28/08/2021 09:30

@Lockdownbear rules about school hall lets have always been highly weird. When I was on the Primary PTA we were only allowed to have events involving alcohol on a Friday or Saturday night, as those were the only nights when children wouldn't be in the building the following day.

In case they inhaled stale Prosecco fumes, obviously. Made no sense and just meant we looked for other venues for events.

Lockdownbear · 28/08/2021 09:33

@BroccoliFloret Grin that is actually quite funny.
But I'm really cynical and think they'll be some warped thinking about drunk parents struggling to get kids to school the next day.

frasersmummy · 28/08/2021 09:46

@Lockdownbear that must be a local rule as ds's basketball club is in a school and they are going back Monday

They have to wear a mask when entering and leaving the building which is just stupid

Lockdownbear · 28/08/2021 09:49

It might only be related to swimming pools but it's still bonkers.

And the council charge the PTA to hire the school hall for the events (that are fundraising for school equipment🙄)

Probably for a different thread, but thought I’d add my rail about that in there!

😷 really? Coming back to the same premises but later for a basketball club?🙄

We should have a separate thread dedicated to the silly rules. It should be called ‘Jason says…’ in homage to the BYO tatty spoon rule from Christmas

BroccoliFloret · 28/08/2021 10:45

Yes we used to try and arrange PTA meetings for nights that Brownies or badminton groups were using the hall, and we just sat in a classroom and had a meeting. But that was soon not allowed either and the Council wanted to charge the Head something like £20 per hour to sit in her own school and discuss how parents were going to raise money to pay for stuff the Council weren't able to fund. Hmm

So after that we started to use the supermarket community room (free) or go to the pub.

mibbelucieachwell · 28/08/2021 15:00

A community orchestra I know of in Highland Region is now also unable to resume their pre covid school hall bookings. I think no bookings are being taken until end September. Loss of income for the council. Loss of healthy community activity.

DS due to travel for his amazing music opportunity thingy in Germany tomorrow still hasn't got his paper certificate in the post. Two and a half weeks after requesting it.
Multiple phone calls and emails later when someone was supposed to start a Resolver Critical 1 case for him, but hadn't and a woman had told him that nothing could be done except wait for the certificate in the post which she had requested to be resent and another woman had told him to email as would be picked up, but wasn't as they don't look at emails at the weekend according to the automated reply and another chap finally started the ' resolver'process for him. They've only just been allowed to do this since Friday I think. If they get on to it soon, they'll email DS an electronic certificate in time for his departure tomorrow. Apparently digital documents will be available from September 3rd. So we'll see. I even offered to go through to Edinburgh to pick up the blessed paper certificate and go down to London with it, but that was apparently not possible. He went to St Pancras today to ask if they'll accept his vaccination status details on the nhs Scotland website and the customer service people thought they would, but it specifically says this isn't allowed on the FCO travel to Germany website. So Who knows?
He was considering trying to get a last minute PCR and quarantine in Germany until September 3rd when the digital certificate is supposed to be available but is now hoping the Scottish vaccine certificate people finally, 2 and a half weeks later can provide him with acceptable proof. I'm not a complaining type normally but if they don't come good in time for tomorrow lunchtime I will be filling in forms as public money is being wasted on this incompetent service. No harm in the public knowing how competent this Scottish administration is?

OnceUponAWhine · 28/08/2021 16:28

Oh, if only there was an app where you can show your vaccine status on a screen, easy…?

Sigh. If only it was ok to do the same as the rest of the U.K.

I hope your DC can get sorted @mibbelucieachwell, that seems to be adding stress to what is supposed to be an exciting opportunity.

WouldBeGood · 28/08/2021 17:39

Oh, @mibbelucieachwell what a nightmare.

OP posts:
mibbelucieachwell · 28/08/2021 19:03

Thank you for the much needed sympathy. Digital certification from September 3rd apparently. Will believe it when I see it. As usual for SG. just after the time that the bulk of people would like to exercise their newly restored freedoms. It'll make Scotland look so competent if the American lad can make it to the course, fully vaccinated with documentation but the Scottish one can't because......

Haudyourwheesht · 28/08/2021 19:58

I don't understand why council places still have closed cafes. Kelvingrove, for example, have not opened their cafes or either of their gift shops. Surely they're money makers? They're bitching about being skint - surely over priced poor quality baguettes and coffee is the answer?? I certainly buy them.

WouldBeGood · 28/08/2021 20:07

I don’t either @Haudyourwheesht

It’s quite the contrast to the innovation and effort of the private sector in small businesses and hospitality

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 28/08/2021 20:40

@mibbelucieachwell
Hope he gets that sorted.
I'd heard that too it was no school sport facilities had to be let out until end of September too. I guess an Orchestra would be using a gym hall.

I wonder if the council with the basketball have either missed the memo or getting round it as it only open to the school kids who attend that school.
However I wouldn't go pointing it out incase someone closes it down.

@Haudyourwheesht that makes no sense to me either. The council cafes near me are open. The one in East Kibride, had a table across the door in mid winter and were doing takeaway.
