The end was not nigh,and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

@Scottishskifun that’s so true, the gulf between the haves and have nots has never been starker.

@ssd sounds good!

I messaged another hair salon about mask free appointment and might possibly be able to be allowed in after all other staff and clients have gone home IF the individual stylist will countenance such a leper

Yep I'm lucky and have savings with my DH telling me it doesn't matter what a treatment cost so long as it was helping.

It's definitely sped up my recovery with regular private physio, breathing therapy and bowen therapy. But so many just don't have the money so are stuck without the specialist support in how to pace or improve breathlessness etc.

rookiemere · 26/08/2021 22:09

Sorry not been around much lately.

Just like to rail,because DS has reported that one of his pals has tested positive on a PCR test - but went into school whilst awaiting the results of the PCR test.

Jeez Louise I don't adhere to much but surely everyone knows by now you don't go in while you're waiting for the results. Apparently DS won't have to test as the definition of close contact is quite loose, but feels like it's only a matter of time.

Lockdownbear · 27/08/2021 07:30

@WouldBeGood
Where abouts are you?
I was in a salon the other week, the receptionist had a sunflower lanyard, I thought fine, but neither the trainee or the hairdresser had masks or lanyards.

I don't think the other customer had one either.

Lockdownbear · 27/08/2021 07:34

I heard on the news last night they'd ruled out a circuit breaker, not surprised really, too many people would ignore and they'd be no furlough money.

I suspect they've been telt by Boris.

WouldBeGood · 27/08/2021 08:24

Ooh, where was that @Lockdownbear? I’m fairly Central. Pm me if too outing??? Promise not to stalk you 😃

It wasn’t going down well on social media either so hopefully Boris has done!

I’m glad no circuit breaker. She is stuck at what to do. Can’t close businesses as it spreading in schools and would t make a difference . Can’t close Schools again as people would riot. Will be interesting to see what they decide to do. It’s spreading so fast at our local high school. I don’t know what the answer is.

Scottishskifun · 27/08/2021 13:11

The cynic in me thinks that it was leaked to gauge reaction..... They realised how bad it was (and thus would have negative consequences elsewhere......) and went no no no no that was never the plan........ 🙄

Generally civil servants don't make this stuff up but politicians are known for quick u turns when it becomes obvious that polls and public attitude will take a nose dive!

randomsabreuse · 27/08/2021 13:13

Test and Protect are still not fit for purpose! Just got pinged to isolate... until yesterday...

Useful...

I know where the contact was from and have done regular lateral flows since the contact's LFT was positive!

dementedma · 27/08/2021 13:32

My full team plan to be back in the office on Tuesday for the first time, since the first lockdown. They are all excited and looking forward to it after almost 18 months of isolation at home. If Sturgeon pulls the plug again, i will be furious

mibbelucieachwell · 27/08/2021 13:40

rookiemere You'd think your DS' pal could have stayed off school for one more day.

I see from the coronavirus Data and Stats thread that the number of cases today includes tests delayed by access to testing a few days ago, so hopefully tomorrow's numbers will be quite a bit lower. I don't believe NS mentioned that. She did say it was due in part to a very high number of tests but didn't explain why.

DS is still waiting 15 days after applying for his vaccine certificate to arrive so he can travel to his amazing music week thing in Germany on Sunday. If it doesn't come by tomorrow that's that. He phoned the certificate people but they couldn't tell him anything useful apparently. So frustrating to have met the entry requirements but not be able to prove it.

I'm actually quite reassured by the tone that seems to have come out of that briefing (from commentary, I didn't watch it). It seems there was the expected warnings about how precarious the situation is and how 'a small proportion of a big number is still a big number' (yes, I know how numbers work thanks, what with being a functioning adult and all). But no real indication that she's prepared to go backwards on anything, just an appeal for us to behave sensibly on a voluntary basis, even for mass events. I'm actually glad to see an acknowledgement that we're (mostly) intelligent adults, and I think people are much more likely to act responsibly if trusted to use their own judgement.

GoldenOmber · 27/08/2021 13:47

Yes, me too. I saw some of the press questions and she talked there about looking at the harms of the case numbers, rather than just the raw case numbers - so looking more at how much serious illness and hospital admissions it’s causing than the number itself.

ElephantOfRisk · 27/08/2021 14:16

In that case, then why aren't we now going by those who are clinically diagnosed as being ill with covid? We need to stop doing all this testing of people who are perfectly well and encouraging every man and his dog to keep getting tested. Divert that resource and money to increasing capacity and catch up within normal NHS services.

All that promotion of free dental care for under 26s, aye, very good but most folk can't get a routine appointment. Young adult DSs and myself haven't seen a dentist for nearly 2 years! DH has been but they are only taking emergency and urgent cases. Well. if no-one can get a routine check up then ultimately we will all become emergency and urgent treatment patients!

A friend of DHs recently got diagnosed with a cancer because of his dentist when undergoing emergency treatment. Dentist spotted something unusual in his nose. That's DS a year waiting on investigations into his one sided hearing loss. He's back to square one waiting on a hearing test since the last one expired before the consultant could use it.

We're the same here Elephant
Our very good NHS practice doesn't seem to have survived COVID
2 of the dentists haven't come back so we can't get seen before Oct
That will be 2yrs exactly

Can he not download it on his phone?
Lockdownbear · 27/08/2021 14:59

In our practice only 1 out the 3 dentist will see NHS patients. Anything that requires referral is 8-9months.

So fat lot of good having free dentist for under 26.
Not to mention some 26 year olds could be well and truly out earning a 30 something who's trying to support kids.

We last went in Sept 19 and had an appointment booked at the end of March 20 which was obviously cancelled. DS2 went away to Uni at the end of August so missed his Sept 19 appointment. He's 20 now and hasn't been seen since he was 17! We moved dentists as ours would only do private appointments and whilst we could afford that, their attitude wasn't great and tbh we weren't that happy with the dentist either. One of those where people keep leaving and you get random new ones often. DH needed to be seen so we have a new dentist who has just taken on a load of new patients but none of us have seen him except DH - again - who is having a fair bit of bother with his teeth at the moment.

I just feel that as i've taken DSs every 6 months since they were babies and neither has ever needed any treatment, that that routine has been lost and as adults now they might not get back into good habits with their teeth. I was never encouraged to go to the dentist and didnt go from age 15 until 35, i'd rather they didn't do that.

@ssd I don't think Scotland has a digital passport
I heard they were buying a system in from Danish company but not sure if it's up and running yet?

ElephantOfRisk · 27/08/2021 15:13

We just had a post from police FB page to say that there is a scam running relating to covid passport type stuff so don't click on any links without checking thoroughly that any emails or texts are genuine.

You can get confirmation of being double jagged, but not on digital form
