The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

name changer (again) but been on all these threads

DDs friend, who she sits beside in some classes, has Covid.

DDs not been told if she needs to test, isolate or what.

She must surely be a close contact though? She has no symptoms although has been complaining of being hot these past few days but she attributes that to the weather and everyone else being hot too.

Bugger this

The rules changed for what is considered a close contact for school kids basically siblings or sleep overs only.

You can obviously get her tested if you want though.

listentomydeclaration · 26/08/2021 15:33

Ah okay then. I wasn't sure what we had to do. rules change all the time and its hard to keep up.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 26/08/2021 16:06

I'm now ranting that Devi is now joining the call for vaccination of teen. Can't bring myself to read actual article. I find her views particularly simplistic at best

listentomydeclaration · 26/08/2021 16:53

shit, sister who works for the Scottish Government says everyone is saying there's going to be another circuit breaker. Not sure if its just a workplace rumour or if its something that's trickled down from some senior meeting....

listentomydeclaration · 26/08/2021 16:56

DS who is about to start uni is now freaking out that he might not be able to start uni after all.

Scottishskifun · 26/08/2021 17:27

I don't care what they put in place I will be ignoring the lot of it!
They might be able to control businesses but I'm done listening to them on this and majority of my friends are the same.

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2021 17:48

I think one thing that is clear is that NS has made a total pig’s ear of handling this

She's made a pigs ear of everything she's touched.

I honestly don't think people will comply with another circuit breaker - nor will they believe the time scales. - people listened last March to 3 weeks .....some listened in January to a week at home.....nobody will believe any timescales they put on it.

Pootle40 · 26/08/2021 18:11

@WouldBeGood

DS also reports that they have to keep water bottles in their bags at school and ask the teacher if they may have a drink. He’s s2. It’s absolutely roasting. I suspect it’s to avoid “drinking” so can remove mask…
My S1 hasn't been wearing a mask since he started high school a week ago. He isn't exempt. One of his teachers walked him to the school office to get one and wear it. Are they allowed to do this? Suffice to say he removed it after that class was over. He says the school have given him 50.
Pootle40 · 26/08/2021 18:12

We are due to return to office on a phased basis in the next couple of weeks........

runningpink · 26/08/2021 18:20

I love your son @Pootle40! Well done to him for standing his ground!

There is no point to a circuit breaker, I won’t be doing it again. All these false promises. Anxiety is slowly creeping back in again

OnceUponAWhine · 26/08/2021 19:07

Your son using his own critical thinking @Pootle40, he’ll be hauled up in front of parliament for daring to be so boldGrin
👏🏼 on his actions from me. No the school shouldn’t be doing that and they probably know it, what a shame

So, it seems this is actually all about pressure on the NHS because of people having been untreated for over 18 months; not because of Covid.

This is just not an acceptable reason for lockdown. The money wasted on testing healthy people, tv ads, Scottish nightingale hospital, and other guff too.

Full on railing now!

This kind of bullshit twisted logic is exactly why these powers should no be extendable. Complete abuse by Sturgeon and Sturgeon. Again.

Having a wine to take the edge of my annoyance tonight.

She's very good at saying yep GPs thinking there is a magic wand! She did the same thing with long covid leaving GPs struggling with very limited advice. In fact my GP asks me where to find info on different options and how I've found details out!

Its a mess and they think just saying oh look we are requesting x, y, z doesn't make Dr's appear in numbers nor does it make the referral system move any quicker.

Lockdownbear · 26/08/2021 20:15

It's not the first time Scotland has been top of the covid table. Just shows all these lockdowns don't work.

Remember the Irish guy who did the YouTube videos ages ago who kept repeating Lockdowns don't work

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2021 20:17

@Scottishskifun how are you feeling now?

OP posts:

Totally agree @titsintiers and @WouldBeGood. Imposing restrictions in the absence of acute COVID pressure to counteract systemic failings in the health service is an abuse of their emergency powers and exactly why they can't be trusted to 'use their judgement' and bypass parliament whenever they want to in future. The current pressures are the result of chronic underfunding and mismanagement of the pandemic to date. There was a GP shortage before this even began (which they promised to address but didn't), and had they not shut down so much of the health service during the pandemic, or made it effectively inaccessible (e.g. routine GP appointments), it wouldn't be at crisis point now. It would have been far preferable to use our 'quiet' periods (and there have been at least two long stretches since this started) to keep on top of all of the other things, instead of persisting with harsher restrictions in the pursuit of the zero COVID unicorn and letting it get to this point now. Similarly, had we not had such hard restrictions we could perhaps have had a steadier drip of infection instead of the very large peaks we're seeing this summer that have everyone nervous about capacity.

It is simply not acceptable to expect the Scottish public to bear the brunt of SNP failings. Would a 'circuit breaker' now be any help anyway? The infection levels are already very high, and if we're worried about the proportion that will translate into hospital cases, surely the horse has bolted?

Scottishskifun · 26/08/2021 20:58
@Scottishskifun how are you feeling now?
I'm definitely improving just don't know if its permanent or temporary.

Headaches, eye pain and fevers gone most days which makes a huge difference.

Fatigue and muscle pain is still stubborn and breathlessness if I attempt too much but no where near as bad and I'm still paying for private treatments which help a lot.

I've spent over 1k now though on treatments over the 4 months! Just goes to show the disparity between those who can afford it and those who can't and left to struggle!
