The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

Your poor boy @ssd I'm sure he'll be fine. I agree with you, it's a sin what folk this age have been through

hilbil21 · 25/08/2021 07:06

Test done yesterday @ 10am in Helensburgh, results received at 12:25 last night. Hopefully your sons back soon @ssd Smile My 6 year old was negative so back to school for him today!

ssd · 25/08/2021 08:09

Hopefully his will be quick too.
Are we supposed to self isolate whilst we are waiting on his results?
I'm not sure of the rules now.

ElephantOfRisk · 25/08/2021 10:39

Surgeon's approval rating dropping massively so I guess that's why the covid podium was dragged out, must be trying to work out where she's lost approval. Make a few threats of restrictions and see if that gets it back up. If not then it will be "ah didny mean it folks, nothing to see here"

Helensburghmiddleagedmum · 25/08/2021 10:45

Thank you latissimusdorsi. I have been working all week with my boss who is living with his daughter who currently has Covid. He has not had a PCR test done. I have told him he should. He hasn't. He doesn't care. I am beyond livid, and scared stiff. I have a holiday booked next week to go and see my son. I am terrified he will give me Covid and I will not be able to see my son. What can you do when your boss doesn't follow the rules? My mum says I should report him to the police.

Can you report him to his boss or HR? Honestly I would refuse to go to work with someone who is so ignorant.

No, you carry on as normal. If he tests positive then you should book a PCR as a close contact, if that's negative then carry on.

I see a lot of the papers this morning are covering Sturgeon's latest threat to return to restrictions if we're not good boys and girls and don't get the latest wave under control. I'm not sure what she's expecting on the back of this latest 'warning' but I suspect that I'm supposed to think twice about going to the gym or out to a restaurant to minimise spread. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm doing the opposite - if my liberty might be taken away at any moment I'm making the most of it while I can! I'm going out way more than I ever did pre-COVID because I can't bear the thought of everything being shut again and me not having made the most of it when it was available. If I'd been able to live more of life over the last 1.5 years I'd be more relaxed about increased restrictions again, but as it is she's pushed too hard and I literally don't think I can take it again! This anxiety about being locked in again is the main reason I'm reluctant to test myself 'just in case' too.

Covids · 25/08/2021 11:28

So to update. DS 17 tested positive on LFT Monday. Got appointment at test centre for 4pm next day. That got cancelled by text on day. Got rescheduled appointment but in Cumbernauld (they’re in East Dun) at 11am today. DP Drove to Cumbernauld with DS and DD only to be told when they got there that ‘our systems are down, here’s a home test kit to send off’.

I can feel my DP’s rage from here. Meanwhile I’m on the train back to Glasgow from England where I booked a test on late Monday night for 09.30 Tuesday Morning, and received my negative result at 2am this morning (Weds).

It’s an utter, utter shambles in Scotland no matter what impression of calm, ‘control’ Nicola is trying to project. Surely to God they anticipated an uptick in testing when the schools went back?

(I’m posting this on the thread I started too so sorry if you’re reading it twice)

Groovee · 25/08/2021 11:31

Seems to be your area that is a shambles. Know quite a few who have needed PCR tests in Edinburgh in the last 5 days and been fine to get one and the longest result was 26 hours, the rest were under 18.

He is the Senior Partner and Staff Partner, he is the person we go to when we have a problem, there is no HR department. I have never in my 20 years of working here known him to deal with any problem or help any person. He is useless.

@TheGenealogist that's not what that nhs inform guidance says.
If the household member has symptoms everyone isolates until they get result.
It's obviously different if they don't have any symptoms

Hmm, but when you say working with him, in what environment? If you’re mask free in an office, then isn’t that just life in 2019? There’s folk working in shops, cafes wearing masks all day and still getting it or have no choice but to keep mask on.

What I’m saying is, your boss could be negative and clearly has no symptoms, if he tested neg on a PCR he’d be able to come in anyway, whether his daughter is positive or not🤷‍♀️ Is it mandatory for you to go into your work environment? You don’t have to test if your holiday is within the U.K. anyway and you could be positive with no symptoms so your holiday will still go ahead?

Sounds like your boss is trying to sustain a return to normal, albeit in a way he’s upsetting people (with or without knowledge of doing so), but if people could JUST STOP TESTING when there’s no symptoms we might actually make progress towards normality…especially if there’s any chance we’re going to be locked up again in Winter, we need to demonstrate common sense just now. As pp has mentioned, it really is different in England at the moment, people getting on and finding their own way to act responsibly, meantime we seem to be caught up in stress and panic with emphasis on testing here.

riverrunning · 25/08/2021 12:43

I agree youcannotbeserious I don't think Nicola's warnings will have the effect expected.

Restrictions were lifted 9 august and already panic has set in.

I'm pro vaccine and even that it should be available to teens if it's safe and they want to have it - but if vaccines aren't buying us freedom from school disruption then that's a worse outcome than anyone expected.

I'm trying not to feel despondent and hope this'll be a blip in numbers.

Covids · 25/08/2021 12:45

Aarghhh! So my family were given home test kits (along with all the other people who turned up at Cumbernauld and were told the systems were down). They got home, did them and then discovered that the postal bags they were given didn’t have the important purple label that you’re supposed to stick on them to track results so they’re no use to man nor beast! My DP phoned the 119 number to be told they can’t help and can’t communicate with the Cumbernauld test site (probably all gone home). Said we could try driving over to Cumbernauld this evening and they ‘might’ be open again but they don’t know for sure. We’re right on border of East Dunbartonshire and Glasgow and they expect us to drive over there again on the off chance?!! My DS actually ordered some proper home test kits on Monday night before booking a drive through appointment - they haven’t even turned up yet.

I’m totally aghast at the uselessness of it all and could cry!!

latissimusdorsi · 25/08/2021 13:04

OMG @Covids you couldn't make it upConfused
Test and protect planners have really had their eye off the ball here.
There was massive increase in demand for testing last year for 1st couple weeks when schools went back ( then same happened in England few weeks later)
They know this, you'd think they'd plan for it🤷🏼‍♀️

mibbelucieachwell · 25/08/2021 13:06

That's awful Covids What a shambles. No wonder you're AngryAngryAngryAngry

riverrunning · 25/08/2021 13:34

Absolutely ridiculous @Covids what a nightmare!

TeenTraumaTrials · 25/08/2021 14:08

Railing about John Swinney's interview this morning

"Scotland's record number of Covid cases is partly being fuelled by the return of schools after the summer holidays, the deputy first minister has said.

John Swinney said the data showed that high numbers of young people had tested positive in recent days.

And he said the case for secondary pupils continuing to wear facemasks in school was growing "ever stronger"."

This is all so far beyond ridiculous it makes me want to weep. How many of these were actually cases (and by that I mean ill as that is the actual clinical definition of a case) and how many people who foolishly tested their children before going back to school. It was reported yesterday that people with Delta have 300 times higher viral load than with other variants - a flimsy, ill-fitting paper mask that is on and off and pulled up and down all day is bugger all protection.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 25/08/2021 14:31

Exactly @TeenTraumaTrials. I have a few issues with Swinney's statement. Firstly the cases started accelerating before any school-based transmission could have taken off (conceded by JL yesterday I think) so while it might be part of the rise now it's misleading to suggest it's a main driver. Secondly, as above, if the kids aren't seriously ill so what? Do we panic when a cold goes round a school? I don't think so. Thirdly, in the context of the known negative impacts of mask-wearing on education, where is the evidence that wearing masks in schools actually helps slow spread? It doesn't seem to have done much to prevent previous waves which is surely no surprise when you consider that the masks most of us wear will pretty much allow delta straight through.

I honestly wish that ministers would stop commenting on stuff they obviously don't understand just so that they can look like they're in control or 'doing something'.

OnceUponAWhine · 25/08/2021 14:35

Everything you said @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us is so spot on.

OnceUponAWhine · 25/08/2021 14:43

Still testing positive despite wearing the germy masks all day, go figure🤔 So does it make a difference wearing them in school? Nope. Unmask the kids, ffs.

What about those not displaying any symptoms and not feeling ill- it’s BECAUSE OF THE TESTING! Jason on TV ads encouraging us all to get tested even if we don’t feel ill, I despair 😩
