Guilt Free Railing 11

The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

Absolutely it’s well and truly time for us to make our own decisions and risk assessments. Starting with making masks a personal choice.
She needs to treat us like adults. But I fear she loves the control way too much to let that go anytime soon

titsintiers · 24/08/2021 11:10

Apparently JL not expecting any major changes. The endless appearances and potential threats to our reduced liberty is getting very wearing.

So basically it's to stand and lecture us..... AGAIN!

Do none of them realise the more they do it the more people just switch off or the anxiety inducing it causes for many?!
Talk about being out of touch!
I can honestly say none of my friends listen to these anymore and we usually only put it on for DHs job if we have to!

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 11:57

I’ve never watched one. Neither her nor BJ.

I get the info later, mainly on here 😃

But I feel anxious before them.

And cross after them

Yes, I really think the lectures are counterproductive at this point, especially if there aren't any rule changes. Those who would pay heed are probably already being extra cautious, and those who are just pissed off with it all are going to be turned off even more be a lecture on 'caution'.

I came across an SG twitter advert about dealing with anxiety as you return to normal life the other day which I did find quite ironic given that they are the source of that anxiety for so many of us.

TheGenealogist · 24/08/2021 12:07

And remind us again, @OnceUponAWhine, that just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Hmm

latissimusdorsi · 24/08/2021 12:13

We're having an exit wave.
It was predicted

Schools are back. That rise was also predicted.
Nothing else to say

TheGenealogist · 24/08/2021 12:23

Whoop Whoop DD is negative, off back to school she goes.

OnceUponAWhine · 24/08/2021 12:48

Absolutely refuse to watch, but following via Twitter. Chris Musson:

"we start to see evidence of a substantial increase in serious illness", she "cannot completely rule out" reimposing "some restrictions"

So today’s TV show is absolutely about reinforcing the message she’s in charge and the usual threats around our behaviour.

OnceUponAWhine · 24/08/2021 12:52

Also, additional rail….not that I want to watch John Swinney or Humza Useless up close, but why are they not communicating with us? Why is it still queen Nic on the telly for Covid, why is she not just getting on with her day job?

I think we know why.

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 12:57

Imagine how stressed this is making business owners. It’s cruel.

@OnceUponAWhine I have often wondered why the first minister takes time out of her schedule to go on TV, use a lot of words and announce, well nothing really. The whole thing must take a couple of hours out of the day and you'd think she would have better things to do with her time.

On my more cynical days, I wonder if it's because her visible 'leadership' was linked to increases in support for Independence last year (which has now waned quite substantially when it became clear that actually, after greater pains through restrictions, Scotland wasn't better off overall, and in fact over the summer appears to have been in a worse position if anything). Still, I suppose there are still some people who think merely being present == 'leadership' even if there isn't anything of substance said or any action actually taken.

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 12:58

Yes, @OnceUponAWhine, where’s our Covid Tsar?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 24/08/2021 13:23

"The first minister says one of the ways to get pressure on A&E down is to get primary services such as GPs back to normal."

Oh, what's this then? Could it possibly be an acceptance that GPs being on an emergency footing with additional restrictions is causing knock-on effects in the rest of the health service and pressure in hospitals? Personally if my practice were to allow me to book an appointment in advance again that would be great. The current 'ring on the day, argue with the receptionist about whether it constitutes an 'emergency' because all the routine slots disappeared when you were on the school run, get a phone call at some point from a Dr who might then decide to see you in person if you're lucky' approach is quite stressful and I can quite believe a lot of people just give up.

TheGenealogist · 24/08/2021 13:29

@WouldBeGood

Yes, *@OnceUponAWhine*, where’s our Covid Tsar?
Please don't. Who would we get - Janet Godley or someone of similar calibre? Elaine C Smith perhaps?
WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 13:38

It’s John Swinney, isn’t it? 😃

OP posts:

Yes it is, not that he’s ever seen in daylight hours
ElephantOfRisk · 24/08/2021 13:58

I keep garlic and a sharpened stake to hand in case I ever encounter Swinney.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 24/08/2021 16:21

Fuck fuck fuck. We've just got a Warn and Inform letter from school. Now waiting to see if identified close contact. I have had enough of this - 4 days at school - and work becoming increasingly less sympathetic about pressures as time goes on.

Try not to worry, many of us got one of those last week and it came to nothing. Even if it is, your employer has to understand given it’s SG protocol school have to follow🤷‍♀️. Not your fault- hope they are being fully supportive. Hope it comes to nothing for you this time.
OnceUponAWhine · 24/08/2021 16:40

Perhaps because I’ve reason to notice these issues stuff at the moment- but I spotted that on the flu immunisation letter all secondary school pupils can give consent to receive it, they even sign the consent form themselves. Is this a new thing for this year, or has it always been this way? (I’m signing for primary age DC, so usually don’t notice anything re 12+)

Scottishskifun · 24/08/2021 16:46

😬 Christ I really hate agreeing with the idiot which is Douglas Ross but definitely agree with his statement that NS seems unable to let go of control with threats of restrictions regardless of what this causes to jobs or people's mental health!

I hate the man but he's right!

ADreadedSunnyDay · 24/08/2021 17:09

@OnceUponAWhine
Thanks - just gotta wait and see I suppose. Am hearing lots about lots of cases though. Just so fed up. We had two consecutive periods of self isolation before the summer holiday ....

Isn't furlough coming to an end in October?
Difficult to see if what restrictions can seriously be brought in then (except schoolsConfused)
