The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

Heading back tomorrow so I'll need to park those ideas for another time but thank you. Probably should have asked before we came. We had a walk along the beach, lunch in a cafe and a game of bowling with the crew this afternoon. Dinner at Miller and Carter (DSs choice) for a belated birthday meal and he wants to take us to his favourite Chinese for lunch before we head down the road. Other car needs to get taken into garage for mot before it shuts tomorrow so we can't hang about.

Tomorrowisanewday · 23/08/2021 22:12

ElephantofRisk - yes, Covid has been good to our gulls! I was driving into my office last week, and there was one in the middle of the road, having eviscerated a bag of someone's rubbish. No intention of moving, I've seen smaller dogs......

ElephantOfRisk · 23/08/2021 22:16

I've been using a sleep app to measure my sleep and actually I've been doing pretty well in terms of quality. Mostly in the 80-100% score. I had a rubbish sleep about a week or so ago and got 71%. Last night was 33%! I've managed not to nap at all so hoping I can do better tonight.

I fall asleep relatively quickly but after that who knows. On the 71%night I didn't get to sleep until after 4am and was up just after 8.

ElephantOfRisk · 23/08/2021 22:19

A street near where I live has a bad gull problem. They keep coming back to nest on their rooves every year and attack local people and pets. Someone saw one swallow a Starling whole!

We rarely see them at all.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 23/08/2021 22:38

I fed all the local birds banana yesterday and The Seagull Crew loved it.

I ❤️ seagulls, they get a bad rap.

ElephantOfRisk · 23/08/2021 22:49

My DH likes feeding the crows so gets annoyed if the seagulls muscle in. The crows love cat crunchies soaked in water until soft but that's quite small for the gulls.

Don't get me wrong, the seagulls are stunning up close, so white and clean looking. They are just noisy bastards that don't go to bed until 6 in the morning.

😂 In my town they deserve it they have learnt to dive bomb people to get them to drop their food so they now swoop at everyone!
ElephantOfRisk · 24/08/2021 00:23

DS told me as an innocent first year student he'd treated himself to a macaroni pie for his lunch and had barely taken a bite before a seagull snatched it from his hand. He rarely eats outdoors now as a wise almost 3rd year student.

@OnceUponAWhine I was told when my dad was dying to breathe up to the hills. Ffs my dad was dying, I had every right to be starting a grieving process.

Groovee · 24/08/2021 06:01

@ssd

Im fed up with fucking bastard covid. Im fed up my 20 yr old staying in his room for days if he sees his pals incase he gives it to us. Im fed up being scared. And worried. Im fed up wearing a mask all day at work. Im fed up people turning against each other for not wearing a mask. I'm fed up not sleeping well. I'm fed up being anxious all the time. I'm fed up my adult kids lives are shit due to it. Im fed up being fed up.
Sending hugs. X😘

Railing against DDs school and wonder if any teachers know what might be going on as DD doesn't?

Apparently for several of her classes, she has to wait for her 'proper' teachers as they are needed in other schools? I've never heard that before!

As a result she has some supply teachers who do not teach that subject - for example, her English teacher is her old Music teacher. How is that going to teach her anything after a long year of disrupted learning?

I'm not impressed and I'm confused by it. Surely other schools should arrange their own teachers and schools shouldn't be giving teachers away? I don't know if it has anything to do with Covid sickness?

Don't want to out the school or ourselves.

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 09:27

That sounds weird @BridgetJonesPanties.

Railing against NS- another briefing today as “cases rising”…

BridgetJonesPanties · 24/08/2021 09:31

Oh FFS, is she bringing back restrictions of some sort?

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 09:36

I doubt it.. probably a stern warning to obey!!!

runningpink · 24/08/2021 09:50

Oh not another one. 😩

TheGenealogist · 24/08/2021 09:56

Oooh what a coincidence, on the same week she announces a coalition with the Greens she has to get her face on telly again. Hmm

Won't be watching.

WouldBeGood · 24/08/2021 09:58

It’s probably to distract from that

If she stopped us doing things again. What do you think will go first?

Never heard of this unless they were new and the PVG hadn't come through.

I'd say there could be Covid amongst the staff.

Being able to sit in cafes again plus covid comes out at 6pm does it not.
riverrunning · 24/08/2021 10:28

Can't see there's a case for increasing restrictions - maybe about boosters or kids vaccines, or maybe we've been such good children we'll get a school restrictions relaxation? You can tell I'm an optimist usually!

I like seagulls, nice of the council to put that giant bird bath in princes street gardens for them.

Lidlfix · 24/08/2021 10:36

BridgetJones where I am we have a couple of teachers who were appointed prior to the hols but who have not been released as their previous schools did not have time to recruit a replacement before the holidays so are playing hardball with notice periods. That explanation might come across as needed in another school. Not much a school or teacher can do if previous employer refuses an early release. Frustrating all round.

We also have a number of teachers out as their school age DC have Covid, teachers themselves double vaxed but need to be home with their own DC. That is not shared with pupils. Staff have Covid and we obviously don't tell the pupils that either so am sure there are great stories doing the rounds to explain their absence, single vaccinated staff who are contact traced still need to do full ten day isolation. We also have staff who are being pinged and then out till they receive negative PCRs. Looks like this is how it is going to be. Nothing to do with poor planning where I am. Though we have had our moments in previous years (looking at you SLT who repeatedly ignored our warnings re staffing and need to recruit urgently).

runningpink · 24/08/2021 10:38

And only when you are waking to your table not the whole time you are actually sat down @Groovee

OnceUponAWhine · 24/08/2021 10:49

It’ll be to remind us she’s still in charge and looking after us. She’ll clarify through the medium of head shakes, hand gestures and many, many words that the Green numpty is saving the planet and the skies above Scotland and the ground only we in Scotland walk on, whilst she is still busy saving our lives. That whilst we might be ‘beyond level zero’ we will ultimately be saved by the new coalition.

Or something along those lines?

Scottishskifun · 24/08/2021 10:52

She can piss off with her podium lectures!

Surely I mean surely she has realised that she can't control this????? It just doesn't work so take safety measures in the most vulnerable of places such as care homes and hospitals!

Even NZ which has some of the toughest restrictions in the world for travel hasn't escaped delta and they are manically trying to get back ontop of it going from 1 case to 80 in a few days and warning its not the peak of it yet! At least they are bloody honest about it though and saying that their measures don't work as effectively against delta!
