The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

Oh, lord, @Scottishskifun that’s horrible. Good on your DH.

This is why I’m scared to go out places

Can you currently go on a plane without a mask if you have a lanyard? Or do you need to have proof from the doctor or something?

I really really need a holiday, it’s been over 5 years since I was abroad and I am considering booking something for next year. But worried masks will still be in place?

Sorry to hear that @Scottishskifun. Well done to MrSki for putting her in her place!

How is little should getting on at school @shouldistop?

riverrunning · 23/08/2021 18:05

Well done your dh ski anyone challenging someone with a lanyard should get the same.

Scottishskifun · 23/08/2021 18:06

@runningpink you need a Dr's letter and contact the airline in advance as well as carrying the Dr's letter.
I had to sort it for our holiday.

It definitely wasn't pleasant most places I have been OK and it's not the staff at all! Just get fed up with people thinking it's acceptable!

runningpink · 23/08/2021 18:23

Oh damn. Probably not worth booking anything then as too much of a risk that masks will still be in place. 😢

TheGenealogist · 23/08/2021 18:23

Your DH sounds amazing, @Scottishskifun.

WouldBeGood · 23/08/2021 18:24

I’m planning to drive if I go on holiday. To france probably, on the tunnel

@Scottishskifun

My rail today is again covid police! Why is it always members of the public who think they have the right to say stuff?!

Wearing my landyard today minding my own business at a large garden centre checkout a woman behind starts tutting at me...... Ignored the first few then asked her if she had a problem to which she replied "yes you and your kind who think your above wearing a mask and not bothering to keep people safe......"
Before I could respond DH is on the verbal attack asking her for her medical credentials, if she has a inability to read and my personal favourite that her advanced years was no excuse for blatant ignorance, judgement of others and disgusting behaviour.......
She went bright red and apologised quietly.

Was very proud of DH but sadly up here seems to be a bit of a reoccurring thing. I don't know what it is whether it's the more rural settings or just small town attitudes. I'm definitely missing the everyone just minding their own business though!

Go Mr Skifun
Groovee · 23/08/2021 18:29

It's not a good idea to put your mask on your wrist at work then help a child to wash their hands... yeah, we washed the mask. 🙈🤦🏻‍♀️

I didn't sleep well last night. I'm exhausted. We're short staffed. Supply not forth coming.

ssd · 23/08/2021 18:46

Well done mr ski, what a cheeky cow.

Im tired, fed up, sore head and throat due to working in mask all day, i hate my job.

OnceUponAWhine · 23/08/2021 18:46

Oh that would make me so angry. I’m sorry you were made to feel like that @Scottishskifun (Would be interesting to know how many of the till tutters have enjoyed a coffee in the garden centre cafe, sitting down, sans mask…I wonder🤔 )
Let’s hope your DH calling her out on it makes her think twice before commenting in future. Shameful behaviour.

Scottishskifun · 23/08/2021 19:11

God I hope so it's not the first time though so I did think here we go again! Although it has been quite a while since the last one.

It was just a bit of downer on a lovely break away (our first without DS) where I had no issues in a hotel, spa facility or meals out.
We had only stopped for a bite to eat and had decided to buy DS a Peter rabbit gardening set!

I hope it's reducing and I just got unlucky like anything in life! DH is very quick witted more so then me so I was glad he was there.

ssd · 23/08/2021 19:40

Yes good on him.

WouldBeGood · 23/08/2021 19:43

@ssd I feel for you. Any chance of a change? Or just hoping things get better?

I had an experience with hoop earrings, wired earphones and a mask. First time in my life I've felt the necessity to use the word 'fankle'.

I'm up in Aberdeen and railing about farkin seagulls, virtually no sleep last night, seagulls, too warm, bed too small, DH snoring, loud banging noises like gunshots (was hoping someone shot the seagulls) flat we rented now like a Chinese laundry as DSs washing machine went kaput and they've been waiting on repair. Repair man says they need a new machine so waiting on landlord. There is a washing machine in our flat so quickly put some stuff through for them. I didn't even know DS had 20 pairs of pants!

In non railing, been eating out so no cooking required. Sitting stuffed now.

Scottishskifun · 23/08/2021 21:57

@elephantofrisk 😂 ah yes they are excelling themselves the last 2 years joys of covid no seagull egg control in towns and cities along the East Coast!

If you've not been before definitely recommend a drive and walk to Newburgh beach to see the seals! (make sure your on Newburgh side though!) the sandy beach is also lovely!

There is apparently also a pop up foody festival type place near Aberdeen beach (not been as quite a way out of the city)

I remember in the depths of lockdown wasn’t someone on here told to ‘look towards the hills’ or something equally as irritating, when all you want to do is scream/run away and keep running Forrest Gump style/ just be left in peace to rail on MN🤪. So I won’t tell you to look towards the hills, but hoping the railing on here helps and you have other ways of feeling ok.

Oh @ElephantOfRisk the seagulls there are something else😞 I lurk deep in MN in the early hours when I can’t sleep- it’s a viscious circle reading with others who can’t sleep either, doesn’t help anyone.

Scottishskifun · 23/08/2021 22:10

@ssd sorry to hear your struggling you've put up with so much for so long with travelling to work etc.

Can recommend a trip away is good for the soul think UK prices should start dropping once schools are back (they are currently nuts!)
If you can be flexible with trains to England then you can get some good deals there too.
