The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

@LizzieMacQueen

Okay, I know I'm not really supposed to ask this but, is Lorna Slater a transwoman?

I mean I have no opinion either way but just wondered.

No she's not. She confirmed it just after elected I'm sure. Lots of people asking on Twitter.
titsintiers · 21/08/2021 08:56

Just had our October break cancelled. Rail rail rail 😞

riverrunning · 21/08/2021 09:11

Did they say why they cancelled titsintiers or just suspect demand?

I'm scared to book again in case the same thing happens...

titsintiers · 21/08/2021 09:14

They didn't say. I suspect demand though. DH still wants to try and get some sun, so might try for Newcastle or Manchester.

WouldBeGood · 21/08/2021 09:18

Oh, that’s rubbish @titsintiers

OP posts:
riverrunning · 21/08/2021 09:18

It's worrying there still isn't demand for October - probably people are booking from Newcastle due to cost of tests etc

titsintiers · 21/08/2021 09:21

I know, it's not great for the travel sector up here, is it.

I haven't looked into the testing differences between Scotland and England.

Groovee · 21/08/2021 13:27

That sucks x
shouldistop · 21/08/2021 20:35

@titsintiers that's shite Sad

randomsabreuse · 21/08/2021 21:01

Older child now has a temperature. Bloody typical. Not entering any more runs until runs until isolation for a temperature until PCR is not a thing!

titsintiers · 21/08/2021 21:07

That's pants @randomsabreuse

BridgetJonesPanties · 21/08/2021 21:38

Patrick Harvie went to my school and it was a shit school, not just for him being there!

@titsintiers was it TUI by any chance who cancelled your holiday? They've done that to a fair few Scottish flights.

titsintiers · 21/08/2021 21:41

It was Jet2 @BridgetJonesPanties

Scottishskifun · 22/08/2021 09:37

@titsintiers

I know, it's not great for the travel sector up here, is it.

I haven't looked into the testing differences between Scotland and England.

It's come down in price last week but basically only one company allowed to do the testing in Scotland which means the tui deal of £20 per person for all tests who are double vaccinated doesn't apply. We are still £70 cheaper flying from England but a few weeks ago this was over £100 difference just for 2 adults
TheGenealogist · 22/08/2021 09:51

I have no time for Patrick Harvie.

My main issue with a lot of the Greens apart from their beliefs is they have no real world experience. A distant relative is married to a green MSP, who went to school, uni, did a postgraduate course, went into politics. Never had a "proper job".

And then there's that wee laddie Greer who I see cutting about Bearsden now and again - he was at school, went to Uni, dropped out, became a MSP.

I know this isn't a Green exclusive problem but all these politicians who have done the uni and straight into politics haven't a clue. Wouldn't it be great if there was some sort of rule which said in order to stand for election you had to have at least 5, preferably 10 years of experience working in a regular 9-5 job in a company which has nothing to do with politics? No lobbying, no internships, no pressure groups, no campaigning.

titsintiers · 22/08/2021 10:15

When/ where are you off to @Scottishskifun?

Scottishskifun · 22/08/2021 12:06

Off to Greece hopefully end of September
Have a few travel announcements between now and then but have a back up plan if it switches red in the meantime and they have said its on a 3 weeks review cycle now.

riverrunning · 22/08/2021 15:49

I agree with you @TheGenealogist my snp MSP seems to post a trip to China as his main claim to being interesting.

They say the lack of real world talent in politics is down to media scrutiny, few people who've had any success in careers other than politics want the constant exposure.

TheGenealogist · 22/08/2021 18:12

Railing against a country park which DS and I visited this afternoon.

One way system in operation in the cafe, which was takeaway only and everyone was sitting outside anyway because it was a warm afternoon. Barked at to "sign in" when we arrived in order to spend 2 minutes in the shop buying two cans of juice and 2 cakes. Shouted at for trying to leave through the "wrong" door.

I thought we no longer had to do the one way system pish? And since when have you had to sign in when buying food to takeaway?

ssd · 22/08/2021 18:52

No excuse for staff barking or shouting at you but they are probably as sick of the rules as you

TheGenealogist · 22/08/2021 18:55

Yes but one way systems aren't rules any more, and it's never been the rule to sign in at a takeaway.

WouldBeGood · 22/08/2021 18:56

Some places are still mad @TheGenealogist. It’s ridiculous.

I went for lunch in a super chilled place in Glasgow, by contrast.

Apparently, a local cafe issues you with a laminated A4 sheet of Covid rules to be studied before you’re permitted to sit down. Outside.

The only thing I'll say is, I've been catching up on US people I follow on Twitter and there is a real fight going on about having primary aged kids continue to wear masks.

I don't know the number of days but the kids seem to have lost a lot of school days there.
