The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

@randomsabreuse

All negative, results came in just before lunchtime so P2 went to school. Let in by head who was pleased that we'd a) tested and b) sent DC in for the half day once freed!

Very relieved but not looking forward to 2yo starting nursery in November as he'll be in and out with random fevers...

We've actually got away with DD having a cough for two weeks now. I assumed we'd get the phone call of doom to pick her up at some point but we seem to have escaped. (I genuinely don't think it's covid. It's not a 'covid cough' and DH and I have both tested negative a couple of times.)
shouldistop · 20/08/2021 20:28

@ElephantOfRisk his first day was last Thursday actually so it was quite good but this was the first full week and there's been homework or a swimming lesson each night. I think I'll let him lie in my bed tomorrow morning after breakfast and watch his tablet as a wee treat.

Groovee · 20/08/2021 20:31

@shouldistop

My poor boy was so tired after school that he was sobbing about nothing really Sad his first full week and the most time he's ever been away from me in a week. Wee soul.
Bless him. It's a huge change and lots of emotions involved. Xx

@ResilienceWanker

Is this the "warn and inform" letter we've been told we'd get? I know they like their little 2 word phrases, but that is a bit "protect and survive" to me (1970s nuclear attack advice slogan Grin). Presumably, yes, it is to encourage people to be more aware of symptoms and maybe test "just to be on the safe side" without any further info as to how likely it is that you need to be "warned", or even informed. Does seem a bit sneaky.

Current shit-covid thing at school is lunches. They're still eating in their classrooms, but the choice of meals, rather than being a hot option (veggie), or a baked potato, or a selection of sandwiches, as it was for all last year, is now a meat option or a veggie option (so one choice for veggie children). And around 2 days a week the veggie option is pasta, which is cooked in another school, brought to ours in big vats, slowly congealing, and then dished out. Unsurprisingly, it's not pleasant, and DS refused it even in P1 so has managed to avoid it ever since by choosing something else on offer... But now it's that or nothing. So I'm having to be a lot more organised with packed lunches this year. And I'm not an organised packed lunch kind of parent...

Got one of those warn and inform letters yesterday.

Ah so it was, don't mind me then :)

We expect quite a of them really. A rest and screen time sounds like a good plan.

shouldistop · 20/08/2021 21:06

I wish I could have a rest and some screen time too Grin dh was on the red eye to London this morning and isn't back until late on Sunday so I'm solo with the kiddies this weekend.

ElephantOfRisk · 20/08/2021 21:46

Ahh @shouldistop, that's a shame. Fake a headache and get the grandparents to step up and take over?

shouldistop · 20/08/2021 21:50

Both grannies are also away this weekend Sad
Ach we'll be fine, big ds is actually really helpful with the baby.

ElephantOfRisk · 20/08/2021 21:52

Good, it will be a nice quiet weekend with you and your boys. I miss that now that mine are giant men. Rainy weekends are made for snuggles and enjoying each others company.

ElephantOfRisk · 20/08/2021 22:06

Just had a text with my antibody test results - how quick was that?!

Anyway, no antibodies from a covid infection were detected which means I haven't had covid in the last 6 months - well I could have told them that! So, what we have learned is that if I did have covid in March 2020, i no longer have any antibodies from that.

ElephantOfRisk · 20/08/2021 22:13

Another rail about the smoke alarm (advert just been on telly). It's your most occupied room as well as downstairs hall and upstairs hall plus kitchen? I go between the study and kitchen mostly, rarely use the Livingroom, DS1 spends about 23 hours a day in his bedroom. DH works out the house but spends his evenings mainly between the Livingroom, the dining room and bed. So, even if I pick one of those as the main room we use, then surely if we sell the house, the new people might use it differently so their "main room" could be completely different. They therefore might not be complying and would have to add another alarm? We also have a "family room" that no-one really uses except maybe when DS2 is home he plays playstation in there but when DC were small we spent a lot of time in there. It all makes no sense.

ResilienceWanker · 20/08/2021 22:23

Can I just have a general rail about Patrick Harvie. Nothing specific. Just the fact him and his fucking waistcoat are on my telly All The Time at the moment.

Oh, and Scotrail have decided that actually, we don't want the trains that they cut during covid back after all . I mean, we haven't been using them, so we're used to it now, surely. Wankers.

WouldBeGood · 20/08/2021 22:25

Patrick Harvie - saw this on Twitter

Oh, that was quick elephant! Pity there weren't any antibodies, but I don't think that means you wouldn't have any immunity through infection? We don't normally produce antibodies for viruses we're not exposed to, so wouldn't expect them to be there a few months later, but your t (or b?) cells would have the memory there, so they'd spring into action if you were to be infected. That's as I understand it, anyway? Though I'm not an immunologist of course. (no barrier to experts these days, though, of course).

ElephantOfRisk · 20/08/2021 22:33

lol @ResilienceWanker, i'd trust you more to be honest. Well seeing how quick it was cos it's covid related. DS2 still waiting on a repeat hearing test since by the time he got to see the consultant, his previous one expired. That's now nearly a year to have someone actually check things properly and he's back at square 1.

It's almost like they don't want people to be travelling or returning to workplaces Hmm

Rail away, I'd rather the Antichrist visited than him
ElephantOfRisk · 20/08/2021 22:44

What is Patrick Harvey for? Was there some spare parts left in a container waiting to be incinerated and someone squished them into the vague shape of a human and one evil night there was a thunderstorm....

LizzieMacQueen · 20/08/2021 23:01

Okay, I know I'm not really supposed to ask this but, is Lorna Slater a transwoman?

I mean I have no opinion either way but just wondered.

ElephantOfRisk · 20/08/2021 23:05

You aren't supposed to ask but I don't actually know. I've never heard her speak (as can't stomach it) but that's usually a give away. Not that i care either. I dislike her regardless of her sex/gender or sexual orientation but not because of any of those.

titsintiers · 20/08/2021 23:14

I don't know but I think she'd say if she was. Unlike the Edinburgh rape crisis centre manager

WouldBeGood · 20/08/2021 23:16

She’s Canadian, I think?

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 20/08/2021 23:19

Patrick Harvie can fucking fuck the fuck off with his wee evil gerbil face. Why the fuck it's his job to police women these days is absolutely fucking beyond me.

I never wish ill on people but if he could fall down a big fuckoff drain or something that'd be ideal.

WouldBeGood · 21/08/2021 00:54

How stupid would you have to be to vote for PH?

How stupid would you have to be to vote for PH?
All those fools that voted for SNP back in May DID vote for him* too, they just didn’t know it at the time.
