The end was not nigh, and still looking far far away, so here’s the latest thread.

Usual railing rules apply: all rails or good news welcome, no nauseating positivity or resilience wankery. 😃

ssd · 19/08/2021 12:43

Hope you hear back soon with a negative @Groovee

@ElephantOfRisk, how long does it take to establish if you have the antibodies?

WouldBeGood · 19/08/2021 12:44

@ssd eating out is the only fun thing to do!

Thats true Grin

Is it bad to say I'm proud of my son for having his first ever day at high school and not wearing a mask. I told him it was his decision. He didn't wear it and he said most kids were. He made me laugh as he rolled his eyes and said they kept getting lectured about Covid and mask wearing on their first day.

That's my boy !

WouldBeGood · 19/08/2021 12:52

@Pootle40 good on him!

Good on your boy. It gives me hope to hear our older children are using critical thinking over this. It also installs confidence and independence to stand up for what they believe in. I’d be so proud of my DC for this too Smile
ElephantOfRisk · 19/08/2021 13:05

@ssd, i'm not sure, I need to read up more but I'd guess a week or so and it might be void or not be able to detect any as it's 17 months since I think I had it.

ResilienceWanker · 19/08/2021 13:30

DM gets the antibody test done monthly as part of the ONS survey (both DPs do the infection part, but DF is squeamish of the blood thing...) and the results come back after a couple of days, seemingly. Though that doesn't separate out antibodies from infection and vaccination (or maybe they do, but they don't tell her) so it could be a different thing with a longer turnaround.

We're going to a comedy thing and then out for a curry tomorrow Grin I am super excited. No exercise for me - but really well done to those who managed it this morning!

ElephantOfRisk · 19/08/2021 13:44

Well that's it all done and ready to post. Let's say that getting enough blood was not an issue! #houseisabloodbath

it says 3-7 days for results.

Groovee · 19/08/2021 14:51

My PCR is negative and so is another colleagues.

Brilliant @Groovee! Enjoy your freedom!

Iv just seen the jump in numbers…they wont reintroduce restrictions again will they?! That awful panic is setting in again!

ElephantOfRisk · 19/08/2021 16:10

Has anyone seen this?:

Really railing now about the situation this poor man and his son are in. It's a sin. In the meantime so much money has been wasted on shite that could have made a significant impact here.

It's the exit wave
We were always going to have one, it was predicted and there's really no way to avoid it.
It's just unfortunate they timed it to coincide with schools going backConfused

Lockdownbear · 19/08/2021 16:32

Apparently under 5's don't need a test unless symptoms. But we all know nursery children love sharing... germs

That is one thing I do actually agree with. Trying to test little kids is torture. I doubt half the results are accurate either. You get away with testing them the first time, beyond that they know what's coming and kick, scream and appear to develop an extra 3 or 4 arms to cover mouth and nose. While the parent needs at least 6 to hold arms out the way the swap, and bottle.

You fitness ladies are putting me to shame. I could do with loosing a few lb. Any tips?

ResilienceWanker · 19/08/2021 16:35

Glad you got good news groovee!

DH went into his office yesterday, and they're doing a trial of spit testing (yuk) so he gets to gob in a pot every time he goes in, and the next day they email him his results. Always negative so far, fortunately. Though I'm really unconvinced by its accuracy, as apparently they've only had about 8 positive tests among the 30,000 or so they've done so far! And, even though they're a healthy bunch, and would by definition be asymptomatic, I'm thinking there MUST have been some cases in among all that lot - given we were at something like 1 in 100 people had it in the population at one point?! He keeps meaning to email the project director (that Linda Bauld from Off The Telly, apparently) asking how they're checking for false negatives - but he doesn't want to get blacklisted, or marked as someone who cares, so is asked to do swab tests as well, to check Grin . Keep his head below the parapet and all...

I'm hoping the current numbers calm down again shortly, like they did after the euros and so on. As long as hospital numbers keep low I'm hoping there's no further restrictions. It is an arse it's just as schools are going back, though - and I hope they aren't used as a scapegoat -keeping restrictions beyond the 6 weeks, or introducing bubbles again or anything. Gahhhh. Why can't the virus just fuck off now, hey?! It's had its fun...

Lidlfix · 19/08/2021 16:37

All our staff who were contacts were negative too Groovee, shame for the still mega enthusiastic single dosed youngster still in iso jail.

WouldBeGood · 19/08/2021 16:40

Surely loads will be asymptomatic though, and spiked by back to school tests?

I don’t think there will be another lockdown @runningpink. Hospital numbers still low

OP posts:
Groovee · 19/08/2021 16:53

So far bar the positive test. Everyone else is negative. We have 2 tests still to go.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 19/08/2021 17:12

I just need our house to stay Covid-free for the next wee while. I'm having an operation next week so need to have a Covid test on Monday - plus I don't want to get it while I'm recovering, that does not seem like a good idea. These numbers are making me twitchy though.

WouldBeGood · 19/08/2021 17:50

I think it might be time to stop the daily numbers. Causing needless worry now. And we are testing far more people than in other countries so rates look worse.

OP posts:
ssd · 19/08/2021 18:38

So many of my adult dcs pals have it, its just rife just now

OnceUponAWhine · 19/08/2021 18:47

I say again, wasn’t this just the way pre 2020, many of us walking around, socialising, going into the office via public transport with a whole raft of viruses, bugs etc. Most of the time we had absolutely no idea we were carrying anything. Haven’t we just reached that point again now, but with-hopefully- more people washing hands and randoms not snuggling up to you on the train/bus. Testing serves no real purpose for our day to day lives other than to enable restrictions to continue and for overreaching governments to introduce vaccine passports shareholders of the pharma industry to get richer. Or am I missing something?

(Actual baulk at the idea of spitting in a pot at the workplace for testing. I hope that method doesn’t get rolled out 🤢)
