Thanks @shouldistop. He goes back on Monday 😱 Trying to force him to try on new shirts and shoes to avoid bitterness and recrimination then… I may be on here railing that he didn’t do this..

Must be hard with two wee ones. Mine were six years apart so not so bad on the sleep times!

From the other tiers thread:

'Some people are worried. That's life. Got to just crack on now'

'Unpleasant for those affected but no need for ongoing restrictions'

'Time to stop living in fear'

All examples of being dismissive of the concerns of others. Which is actually fine but you can't then expect that everyone is going to be accepting of your own concerns.

Why do the above sentiments only apply to those who are fearful of covid?

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 21:11

A propos of the big feet conversation, hoping he’s staying size 11 - his cousin is a 14 😱

definitely not an SNP or independence voter, and some of their supporters on here have been horrible but at the same time, there have been posters unsympathetic to those of us who are vulnerable.

I'm in the difficult situation where I have multiple disabilities that kind of clash with each other when it comes to wearing masks. I really struggle with masks but need the protection they bring too.

So I see both sides of the argument.

Not sure where that's stopping anyone dealing and making provision for their own concerns?

Anyway i'm done with you now, conversation has gone back to more pleasant things.

Jeez! DH is a 12 which is still kinda normal. Some size of a strapping lad @WouldBeGood
Scottishskifun · 12/08/2021 21:14

Everyone has bad days which is what I notched the other day down to.
Generally I haven't felt dismissed on Scotsnet with long covid in fact the opposite with kindness. There have been a few moments yes but like I say everyone has bad days.

I do understand the fear as its the fear of the unknown as to its effects especially when some people like me on paper should never have been as ill.

But I'm also accutely aware that all the restrictions causes serious mental health issues and also delays in treatments for many. I think this is why it should be about managing personal risk that people are comfortable with.

I don't think masks should be in law and have been vocal about that because majority of places they state are not rational. Ventilation is by far the most important thing and that should be the focus.

forfucksakenett · 12/08/2021 21:15

@ElephantOfRisk either you're deliberately missing the point or there's a great irony in you calling me hard of thinking.

Thought it was a railing thread. Here's me come to rail and now it's a pleasant things thread? Just can't keep up!

shouldistop · 12/08/2021 21:15

It's not too bad really, big ds is a great sleeper - 12 hours without a peep and goes to bed well. Baby ds can sleep through 11/12 hours or be up every 2 depending what mood he's in Grin I expect that until he's 18 months-ish though tbh so not obsessing about sleep like i did with the bigger one.
I've just found mat leave hard this time round, it's really lonely without things to go to. These threads have helped actually.
I can imagine getting uniform gets a lot more difficult as they get bigger! Ds isn't fussy yet, he's just thrilled his school tie is the same as his best pals.

ElephantOfRisk · 12/08/2021 21:19

Mine are only 13 months apart but to be fair were both really good sleepers. Although i guess if DS1 hadn't been then we wouldn't have DS2....Grin

shouldistop · 12/08/2021 21:23

Eek 13 months, that must have been a busy couple of years. I can see it being good getting the baby years over with sooner and them growing up together. We wanted ours closer together but ds2 took a long time to conceive. During the first lockdown I felt his lack of sibling acutely when he didn't play with another child for months, I don't think I'll get over how cruel that was for him on top of both of us working from home and he was only 3.5 Sad

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 21:24

I can’t imagine it @shouldistop. I went to something almost every day when mine were little, and gained so much support from parents with same age babies! As well as being nice for the dcs. Must be hard. But I am jealous of their sleeping!

I got mine by accident at random gaps

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 21:25

Not that I didn’t want them, I hasten to add 😳

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 12/08/2021 21:30

That is a shame @shouldistop

Mine had their moments but generally got on well. We were the opposite, it took 4 years for DS1 so we didn't take any precautions (other than I was still breastfeeding) on the basis that we weren't super fertile and it might take a while.

DH was a stay at home dad from when DS1 was 10 months as it wasn't financially viable for childcare for two and a patient had tried to kill him with a broken glass so it seemed like a better option. I had 5.5 months of with DS2 so for that time both of us were around which helped.

riverrunning · 12/08/2021 21:30

Life got considerably better when I learned that getting out every day helped with the baby stage - and another big realisation was that taking the dc to new places really helped their language development.

It's such a shame the libraries being closed as so many preschoolers depend on those for many things other than books.

We'll be adding covid to the list of attainment gap reasons for the next 20 years.

I'm glad the first day went well should and hope you don't get woken at 5!

ElephantOfRisk · 12/08/2021 21:32

Uniform is easier when they hit adult sizes, especially trousers which you can then get in the waist and leg length as appropriate rather than trying to fit an 11 year old into age 15/16 when they are still boy shaped rather than man shaped.

riverrunning · 12/08/2021 21:34

grovee the money was for a summer of play:

www.gov.scot/news/enhanced-summer-offer-for-all-children/

I forgot I did see one offer of subsidised places for an outdoor adventure club but I'd love to see in detail where the money was spent per council.

Scottishskifun · 12/08/2021 21:40

Aberdeenshire has done loads with it from winning aquarium days to free swimming (getting a slot is a different story!) to outdoor fitness/play sessions. I think there was even a remote control car session!
DS has been too little for the majority, he would have loved the swimming but difficult to get.

titsintiers · 12/08/2021 21:46

I know what you mean about loneliness @shouldistop when DH was working 2 jobs this time last year and kids went back to school I have never felt so lonely.

Hopefully you can see and meet more people in the coming weeks and months.

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 21:48

The size 11s are far too small….

As a practitioner, I knew nothing about it 😢. Quite a lot of children would have benefitted from it.
Lockdownbear · 12/08/2021 22:21

Here's a rail, in the last 2 months I've been to two funerals (and I'll have another waiting).
3 older people who's lives were put on hold because of covid. They nor their families can get that time back.
Their last Christmas spent in fear of what?
Families scares to visit incase they brought covid to them.

A friend give once me some wise words 'live every day as if it is your last'. I didn't understand him until he died suddenly aged 21.
Maybe its time too pull his words closer to my heart.

shouldistop · 13/08/2021 07:09

I'm sorry @Lockdownbear

I do sometimes wonder if anyone actually asked the elderly and terminally ill if they wanted to be shielded from their loved ones to protect them.

WouldBeGood · 13/08/2021 07:14

@Lockdownbear 💐
