Is the end nigh?

Email from HO saying all council buildings to keep masks and one metre distancing. So not just schools.

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 16:50

@Groovee oh no! Sympathy!

@shouldistop hurray!

@Lidlfix I agree forced vaccines are not right.
Although I’m not in any way antivaxx.

@forfucksakenett I don’t agree. I’m scared not to wear my mask/lanyard in case of trouble, and I don’t want to stand out, or people to know I’m mental. So I severely curtail what I do.

I’m trying too though, @Pootle40.

Thanks. Certainly in our local supermarkets I would stand out for not wearing one. Hmm

Scottishskifun · 12/08/2021 17:05

@shouldistop

Ds had an amazing first day. He was only in 4 hours. Only 22 kids in his class so that's nice. He's buzzing, so excited to go back tomorrow.
Awww yay fab news!!!!

I'm a bit sad to be back to restricted/difficult swimming. Still waiting on the council to make a decision of if we will get back to normal swimming rather then the ridiculous option which you can't get a slot for at all!

latissimusdorsi · 12/08/2021 17:21

The new rules around who does/doesn't need to isolate are going to be "interesting" in the workplace where people can't work from home.
There's the issue of whether employers will pay unvaccinated people who have to self isolate for being close contact
There's also privacy issues. A staff member may not wish to share their vax status but it could become pretty obvious if they have to self isolate

What trouble would you realistically expect?

Lockdownbear · 12/08/2021 17:38

Here's a bonkers contradiction on that. Kid turns up at nursery with covid. Their nursery class don't need to self isolate but the staff do.
Who's looking after the kids when the staff are isolating?

Honestly there are more holes in the rule book than the average fishing net.

Icannever · 12/08/2021 17:43

I’m gutted Olympia pool in Dundee still has no plans to open any of the fun stuff, not even the toddler pool, it’s still just for lane swimming. I can’t see the reasoning behind it if social distancing isn’t required anymore.
We did have a fantastic swim at Stonehaven pool last weekend though. It was fully booked but I went on the waiting list and got a calls. It was also free so at least Aberdeen council have spent their Scottish government summer of fun money on something unlike bloomin Fife

riverrunning · 12/08/2021 17:51

I'd love to see where the summer fun money went in Edinburgh, I saw one local school was offering to teach you how to make candles pot of recycled food or some such...

Why can't we offer vaccine incentives like the US is? I don't think we should be coercing teachers or anyone else either and I'm not an anti vaxxer, it's just too far.

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 18:02

Booked my first ever flu jag as I don’t want to catch that and be laid up. Wouldn’t be good as it’s just me and DS

I won't go maskless either while it's still enforceable. In terms of trouble? Confrontation mainly, I live somewhere where mask compliance is high. I hope folk who voted for this shower are still complying?

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 18:15

Interestingly, NS now in trouble over oil

Well that was always going to be an issue - selling independence using oil money as a feature but trying to do a deal with the greens who want it shut down.
WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 18:38

Yes, and using Boris as an excuse..

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 12/08/2021 18:41

My personal take is that she has edged of the fence of leaving it to westminster to decide (and then she could blame them for the results of any decision either way) as a sop to the Greens. In the brave new independent Scotland where she doesn't need the greens anymore, she can fire up the new oil field for the dosh. No doubt that dosh will be pissed away on failed projects the same as any other money but that doesn't seem to matter though.

ElephantOfRisk · 12/08/2021 18:42

It's a PR exercise ahead of the summit.

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 18:44

Yes, true.

(And we all know the Scottish Greens don’t care about anything except trans rights)

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 12/08/2021 18:58

Did you read Andy Wightman's clarification on why he left? Nothing I hadn't really been aware of but he was batting back at some of the stuff people have been saying in order to discredit him.

riverrunning · 12/08/2021 19:00

I agree that it's a strategic win-win on oil for the SNP - either blame Westminster for not moving fast enough on fossil fuels (perfect cost free gesture politics they excel
In) or get Westminster to backfill money lost moving away from oil, railing that it's not enough support for Scottish oil workers and they're bad old 80s tories and funding for lost jobs would all be better in the glorious future.

riverrunning · 12/08/2021 19:05

I did read some of that elephant and it reaffirmed my already clear belief that Harvie is odious sleaze bag and the Scottish greens are absolutely awful at building a broad church party to increase the green vote due to their intolerance.

Maybe it's true in general - this is why mainstream parties are encroaching into the green political space, because greens have not managed to unite to come up with a credible green govt.

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 19:10

The Andy Wightman stuff is just horrible.

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 12/08/2021 19:11

Yep, it's a narrow tightrope, one can only hope that she falls off (and takes plenty with her), possibly it's also a squirrel to detract from other shite.

ElephantOfRisk · 12/08/2021 19:12

@WouldBeGood

The Andy Wightman stuff is just horrible.
Because they are horrible people.
Scottishskifun · 12/08/2021 19:16

I would love to know what Greens/SG plan is for rural communities who are reliant on oil for heating not seen any info of how they are going to support that one!

I've always found it ironic basing independence on oil industry given the tax payer is responsible for half decommissioning costs!
