It's shit what Scottish kids are having to put up with. People are saying nobody is bothering with masks - but the kids are getting forced too.

Anyone remember at the beginning of the pandemic it was all, feel sorry for nurses in masks all day, look what it's doing to our skin?

I'm not seeing any of that for teens, who let's face it aren't always blessed with the best of skin with hormones all over the place.

Re the masks in schools, I think SG have backed themselves into a corner over this.
By saying they believe masks make a difference therefore keeping it law in crowded indoor settings on health and safety grounds it's then difficult to say teenagers have to wear them everywhere except in school🤷🏼‍♀️
Understandably I think the unions will be up in arms about that based on the SGs own health and safety advice

Pootle40 · 12/08/2021 13:54

Went to Tesco's. Wanted to walk in without mask. Chickened out of it. Saw one man without a mask. I need to get the balls to ditch this mask!

Lockdownbear · 12/08/2021 14:09

You could be right, someone pointed out at Weddings masks are required in the service when everyone is sitting facing the front bit not at the reception when people are socialising and the booze is flowing.

WouldBeGood · 12/08/2021 14:17

But children are not at risk and teachers will be jagged. Surely leadership demands making rational and proportionate decisions?

So surely the only sensible and logically consistent thing to do is to make them optional in all settings and let people use common sense 🤷‍♀️ It frees up teachers to teach and children to learn, and stops the stupid contradictions like the fact a room full of strangers can breathe heavily on each other in an exercise class or dancefloor, but have to mask up to walk down the corridor or to the toilet, or as above when sitting in rows completely still at a wedding reception. Children can gather in houses in large numbers with no restrictions whatsoever, but in school their education is impeded by masks despite them being at minimal risk and their teachers being vaccinated. The rules as they are now are a poorly thought out farce that cannot possibly be making a dent in transmission. That's if transmission even matters anymore, which the SG seems to accept it doesn't by continuing to open up despite high numbers! Ironically as it dawns on everyone that this is little more than theatre it might make them more likely to question the point of them completely.

Justmuddlingalong · 12/08/2021 15:41

DS1's getting married tomorrow after a long postponement. All very exciting, but...
I've just checked the current rules bestowed on us by the SG. Apparently, unless eating, drinking or dancing, DANCING, we've to be adorned in masks. What the actual fuck is that all about? The inconsistencies are mind boggling. I presume if we're all sipping from glasses of champagne, we can remove our masks for the photos?

Mistressiggi · 12/08/2021 15:48

It doesn't matter how often it is posted, it still isn't true that all teachers will be able to have had two jags by the time school reopens.

Mistressiggi · 12/08/2021 15:49

I'm railing today that the summer is almost over, though I don't expect any sympathy for that Grin

Nobody will be checking - do what you like I say.

Oh my back went this morning. Great bloody timing.

Lidlfix · 12/08/2021 16:00

Many teachers/school staff are not doubled jagged. Lots of under 30s were given the first dose in early July so are still some weeks off full vaccination. Including my DD and a colleague. This is a fact. Perhaps an inconvenient truth but the truth. The removal of self isolation following contact tracing will not apply to them.

Seriously just don't wear it. Nobody cares. Lots of people in supermarkets without masks now. It's hardly a brave decision not to wear it so stop trying to make it one.

Meh, you won’t have to wear a mask, certainly not if you are ‘vertical’ for all activities. I’m sure there’s a sub rule about not standing on your heads or doing roly polys, you may have to wear a mask then😜

Enjoy. Have a great day!

In the name of the wee manny, what next @Groovee?

Hope it's better soon

Groovee · 12/08/2021 16:28

Funnily I booked an osteopath appointment for Saturday so fortunate I have that. Bloody cat litter though. It's not gone like this in quite a while.

One of my ex colleagues is refusing to be vaccinated 🙈 I suspect the self isolation rules changing will result in no longer full pay but sick pay for nursery staff.

Lidlfix · 12/08/2021 16:34

Rumours that full pay for isolation to be removed from all education staff who have opted out of vaccination are abounding. Apparently they need (and are close to achieving) all councils to sign up or it would be open to challenge. Which doesn't impact on me as I am fully vaccinated but somewhat stinks of hypocrisy as we weren't a priority for vaccinations and I don't agree with coercion.

shouldistop · 12/08/2021 16:34

Ds had an amazing first day. He was only in 4 hours. Only 22 kids in his class so that's nice. He's buzzing, so excited to go back tomorrow.
