I think in real life double jagged, and younger teachers will not be eager to wear masks all day.

Oh god, @riverrunning bloody nightmare! Have a wine, or a nice cup of tea 💕

Wine definitely happening, thank goodness that's over for another year wouldbegood!

WouldBeGood · 11/08/2021 20:01

Well earned @riverrunning 🍷

Just asked my boys (p5/p7) and they say the teachers only put a mask on when coming very close to them. If they are at their seat/whiteboard they don’t wear a mask. Ds2 said his teacher only wears one in the corridors.
We don’t have staggered starts/lunches but it’s a small school. We have different areas for each class for queuing and for the playground and no parents apart from p1 in the playground. Some people wear masks and some don’t

RaraRachael · 11/08/2021 21:02

Not looking forward to going back to school next week especially if we have to wear those bloody masks. I'm just back from England and it was SO nice wandering about like a normal person. When we got to Waverley there were signs up about masks and distancing but nobody was taking a blind bit of notice and staff not challenging them.

Ladylunchalot · 11/08/2021 21:27

@riverrunning I feel your pain re school shopping as that was me the last few weeks. Ds is 12 and takes an adult size 12.5 and struggles with fine motor skills, oh and also has skinny feet, bloody nightmare.
I'm now out of isolation as my work have said (and taken advice from occ health) that I can go back as my pcr was negative and I don't have the main Covid symptoms. No doubt they'll try to make me take today either as sick leave, unpaid leave or annual leave.
Can't bloody win - followed test and protect advice and it's wrong. I'm done with the lateral flow tests, pile of shite.

WouldBeGood · 11/08/2021 21:34

12.5 @Ladylunchalot! Thought DS size 11 was big! And luckily his feet are average width.

Glad you’re free. I think the LFTs need to stop now, and medics are saying that too

They are outrageous to try and get you to put that down as any kind of leave lady!

Size 12.5 and a narrow fit - I'd need more than a couple of glasses after that shopping ordeal.

Ladylunchalot · 11/08/2021 21:37

Lol oh believe me I certainly have indulged in wine, especially after bag shopping with dd last week, it drove me to drink!

ElephantOfRisk · 11/08/2021 21:45

If it's any consolation ladies, neither of mine went up shoe sizes after age 13ish. DS1 is an 11 and Ds2 one foot a 10 and the other a 10 and a half, both have narrow feet but high instep so struggle to get some styles on. Both first size baby shoes were a 5 and a half (age 1 and a week) and both started school P1 in a size 1.

Ladylunchalot · 11/08/2021 21:48

@ElephantOfRisk that does give me hope. He's eating me out house and home and is now 6 ft. I feel like a smurf Grin

riverrunning · 11/08/2021 21:56

I'm hoping for steep foot growth tail off, I cannot remember when my big narrow feet stoped growing! I do remember my dad got the shoe shopping chore and I had to make my mind up before lunch to speed things along.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 11/08/2021 22:01

The school guidance makes no sense... don't even try... my particular favourite is that our kids are fine in the lunch hall all together (albeit staggered start times), but whole school assemblies are not allowed 🤷‍♀️... and most of the staff would be delighted to see the back of the bloody masks ( recovering the walls and notice boards this week was a bloody nightmare... a hot and sweaty job anyway despite windows and door wide open and the masks made it so much worse). All our staff are double jabbed though...

WouldBeGood · 11/08/2021 22:10

I think because it’s nonsensical people won’t follow it.

Laws and rules need to make sense

@ElephantOfRisk

In other railing, the lowest proportion of Scottish students from the poorest backgrounds are heading to uni this year since 2016.
I don't know what I think of that.

I find it a tad wrong that kids who live in ex council houses can get into uni with lower grades than kids who live in private houses. Even if they went to the same school.

My nephew was told by Strathclyde they'd have got in if they lived in a different postcode. Nor any dispensation for having a single parent.

riverrunning · 11/08/2021 22:46

It's awful that the poorest kids have suffered worse, it's always the case in any kind of changed situation but covid absolutely has amplified this situation and grade inflation clearly has been shown to be no remedy at all.

We can't grade inflate our way out of covid educational inequalities when there are a finite number of places to be had.

Lockdownbear · 11/08/2021 22:49

@ElephantOfRisk your kids have massive feet!
Is the whole family really tall?

My kids are both really short and the older one is really skinny too. I put a 4-5 shirt on my LO he looked like he'd no hands.

My LOs nursery staff were wearing masks all the time, indoors and out. Although they were trying to spend as much time outside as possible. Which in turn meant less time indoors doing crafts etc.

I do hope P1 is going to be prepared for an intake who are less prepared than previous years.

Lockdownbear · 11/08/2021 22:52

I should add the situation with my nephew was a few years ago before covid.

ElephantOfRisk · 11/08/2021 23:18

I'm 5 10 (suspect I might be a little shorter nowadays), DH 6'2, Ds1 6' 3 and DS2 is 6' 2 as well. I generally wear flat shoes nowadays so look tiny in comparison. I have relatively small feet as I take a 6. So, we are tall but not freakishly. I've worked with a few guys 6'6 and above. I used to do branch inspections with one in the days I wore heels and we were quite an imposing sight walking in. Colleague had a really brilliant stern face he could put on but was a genuinely lovely bloke.

ElephantOfRisk · 11/08/2021 23:19

Mine started school in age 7 to 8 clothes!

Lockdownbear · 11/08/2021 23:32

I can well imagine how imposing you must have looked.

That must have been tough, as people would forget they were only 4/5 and expect them to behave more like 7/8.

My oldest would meet younger kids the same size as him and need reminding to be careful as they were much younger.

TheGenealogist · 12/08/2021 08:32

Kids in school on BBC news this morning getting their GCSE grades. In school, no social distance, no masks.

Mine are back to school this morning with masks, socially distanced, sanitised...
