Probably more for a lunch but would work as a snack, I used to dry fry a couple of wraps or chapatis with cheese and salami or ham or whatever in the middle to melt the cheese and give them slices of that. If you use a brown wrap or chapati it looks healthy on the outside and could have anything inside even chocolate spread

ElephantOfRisk · 11/08/2021 15:14

I find the systema stuff to be pretty good and lots of different shapes and sizes.

shouldistop · 11/08/2021 15:14

That actually sounds really nice! Think I'll do that for my lunch one day!

ElephantOfRisk · 11/08/2021 15:18

In other railing, the lowest proportion of Scottish students from the poorest backgrounds are heading to uni this year since 2016.

Groovee · 11/08/2021 15:38

One of the issues I had last year in P1 was children being sent with a tub... a few put them in the bin after eating as they were outside with their snack 🤦🏻‍♀️ I spent most days at 10.50 rescuing said tubs and spoons from the outdoor froggy bin.

Chocolate brioches were popular, an easy to eat snack. I never policed snacks. I did however make management aware of a Danish pastry and crisps for lunch.

One big issue we had was a few had packed lunches and they always wanted to eat their lunch at playtime.

shouldistop · 11/08/2021 15:48

Grin I'll make sure to remind ds to put his tub back in his bag. He's generally quite careful anal about his stuff to be honest.
He's going to have school lunches. I've looked at the menu and there's only 1 day he might not like much but I think he might try more things if his friends are having the same. They've said there's always bread & butter, yoghurt, fruit and milk so he won't starve anyway!

shouldistop · 11/08/2021 15:49

In other news baby ds is now pulling up to stand and did a little bit of cruising. 8 months old!
We desperately need an open toddler group now.

riverrunning · 11/08/2021 15:52

Homemade apple juice sweetened flapjack to set the right tone should?

seriously there is no lunch box police,
DD's friends have had skittles, all kinds of sweeties, crisps, chewing gum etc.

I always went for oat based things as only one of mine wouldn't moan bitterly without a substantial snack.

As for the mask on day 1 of p1 @detrimentofchildren I'd use my judgment, if you slipped it under your chin at a critical goodbye moment in the outdoor playgroup the worst that'll happen is that you'll get a snooty ParentMail reminding you of the rules but as new parents won't be on the system yet you may not even get it!

I'm sure most reasonable parents would understand and any that didn't would be an early warning indicator of who to avoid.

Scottishskifun · 11/08/2021 16:00

Boxes of raisins, apple, banana, veg sticks with something to dip in, Dairylee dunkers, babybel and wrap wheels are all popular in our house for snacks!

Tiny talks are running which is baby sign language. The church baby and toddler groups are opening up here but you now have to book whole blocks rather than just turn up and pay.

Aww 🥰
shouldistop · 11/08/2021 17:05

There's no tiny talks near me. There is a Gymboree but I don't want to sign up to a £30 a month type thing. Just looking for a wee church hall type toddler group really.

Email from school.

"There should be a 1m distance between staff and pupils where possible and face coverings and other barriers can be used if this cannot be adhered to.
Staggered entry and exit times should be retained to avoid congestion.
Staggered break and lunches to be retained to avoid congestion, although there is no need for bubbles, meaning that children will be able to mix with each other at break/lunch time.
Control measures such as handwashing, sanitising, cleaning, ventilation and isolation (where required) should be part of the daily routine.
The virtual arrangements for parental engagement should continue."

I had no idea they were distancing from primary children and wearing masks. I thought that was only secondary school. How are 4/5 year olds meant to learn from someone with half their face covered?

Groovee · 11/08/2021 17:39

I though masks were from P3 upwards. Although if a staff member wishes to wear them at our LA they can.

Scottishskifun · 11/08/2021 17:42

@shouldistop yes sadly it's across all schools, nursery is the only age which seems to escape it!

The teachers have become really good at keeping children's focus and ensuring they are heard (friends are primary teachers) and setting up activities in a certain way.

Ah that's interesting our LA it's anything above nursery!
shouldistop · 11/08/2021 17:49

There's a child with hearing impairment in ds class Sad how will he cope with masks. I feel so sad for him.

latissimusdorsi · 11/08/2021 17:53

Is the mask wearing by primary teachers in class to prevent them ( fully vaccinated therefore less likely to have/spread virus) passing it to the children (unvaccinated therefore more likely to have/spread the virus)?
We've always been told masks don't protect the wearer so I'm not really seeing the logic here
Am I missing something?

WouldBeGood · 11/08/2021 18:52

I do think some people who like masks find some comfort in wearing them, and feel it gives an element of protection to them.

OP posts:
ElephantOfRisk · 11/08/2021 18:58

An NHS manager told my DH that the mask was for his protection. Then proceeded to say that they wanted masks to remain on public transport as they viewed themselves as vulnerable. So which is it DH asked?

WouldBeGood · 11/08/2021 19:01

I think it’s a bit of a comfort blanket tbh for some.

Which is fine, i have no wish to snatch it away, i just don't want to be forced to have a blanket too.
WouldBeGood · 11/08/2021 19:21

I agree @ElephantOfRisk. If it gives someone confidence to go out then good.

I’m not going anywhere except the gym really. I feel my life has become so narrow and uninspiring.

It's difficult isn't it? I'm all for free choice when it comes to masks (don't think anyone should be forced to wear one, but I don't think people should be judged either), but on the flip side I'm really not sure that teachers can be doing their jobs properly (and giving children a decent education) if they're wearing one all day. In all class rooms, but perhaps in primary especially, there will be a lot of background noise so the children will likely struggle to hear, and the children will also be missing out on facial clues if half the face is covered. I really don't know what the answer is. I wonder how teachers used to cope with the chance of catching a cold/flu from children (without any mitigations at all usually), and whether they feel they are at much greater risk now?

riverrunning · 11/08/2021 19:36

I've spent most of the day school shoe shopping in a shopping centre and shouting to make myself heard as the mask muffles an already quiet voice.

Goodness knows how teachers don't rip them off in frustration!

I was tired and grumpy by the time we finally found fitting shoes.

One dc has one foot bigger than the other,
One dc has incredibly narrow feet. Both v fussy about the style of shoes.

Arghhhh!!
