I had a hospital appointment on Wednesday. Got a letter changing to later in the month which doesn't suit. 😭😭 was all sorted for going on my own.

Scottishskifun · 09/08/2021 14:43

We are returning to Scotland later this week can't say I'm looking forward to it! I've really loved the freedom of just taking DS where we fancy that day without pre-booking, masks or days in advance planning. He's had a absolute blast especially with swimming makes me sad that we won't be able to go when we get home 😟 Ours books up a week in advance and has these stupid marked tanks with very limited numbers.

riverrunning · 09/08/2021 16:05

The weather clearly laughed at my plans to gambol in the botanics today! Unrelenting rain.

Groovee · 09/08/2021 16:16

We've been flooded locally. Glad I had a lazy day.

Justmuddlingalong · 09/08/2021 16:21

I'm making stovies in the slow cooker. And if I wasn't waiting on a new boiler being fitted, I'd have the heating on too.

shouldistop · 09/08/2021 16:24

Went to Glasgow science centre and the play area for under 7s was closed 'for our safety' Angry

ElephantOfRisk · 09/08/2021 16:26

stovies sounds good for a day like today. I had home made lentil soup for lunch - leftovers from yesterday.

My heating is still off but water heating is still switched on obviously. However, i got up for the loo at around 5 this morning and the radiator was hot - water heating doesn't come on until about 6 I think - cold ghosts?

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 16:29

Nothing very scientific about that @shouldistop!

I'm really annoyed. £20 it cost me to go. I thought everything was open or I wouldn't have bothered.

What?! Beyond level zero surely includes an under 7 play area? Utterly ridiculous if not.
shouldistop · 09/08/2021 16:57

There was another couple of things closed as well. I just don't get it. So we only stayed 90 minutes. Ds1 still enjoyed it though, ds2 cried a lot, I think it was too noisy for him.

ResilienceWanker · 09/08/2021 17:30

That's ridiculous shouldistop. What is it going to take to get back to proper normal?! If they don't have the staff to clean it or whatever, they should just say. They're not closed "for anyone's safety" any more. They're closed because they can't do what their risk assessment requires them to do, for whatever reason. But don't palm it off on caring about the customers! Not surprised you were annoyed.

YeDancer · 09/08/2021 18:04

Feeling really upset tonight. I'm hearing impaired. Can't lipread through masks. Had a health related appointment.
Told them in advance I can't lip read through masks. Asked if they could remove masks. Said my DM would come with me to help.
All okay, they said. We'll remove masks. Your DM can come. We'll write things down for you.
Well, none of them removed their masks. DM was told off for removing her mask (so I could lip read what she was repeating to me). Nothing was written down for me. The HCP spoke to me entirely with her back to me and rolled her eyes when DM politely asked her to face me. The HCP also said I "couldn't be that deaf" if I heard what she just said (I can hear bits and pieces but definitely not everything). When I explained she was legally allowed to remove her mask for a deaf person she refused for 'safety' reasons. When I pointed out her colleague was more than happy to do so only last month, she repeated 'safety'. Like covid takes away the equality act 2010.
I was in tears when I left. It was so horrible and exactly why I want WFH to remain and why I am looking for WFH jobs long term. I understand we need to be covid secure but as I said above, there's mask exemptions.
Oh and my appointment was actually during their 'mask exempt' time slot so my DM should not have been challenged for removing her mask.
DM doesn't think I should complain cause its "just a wee lassie" (actually about my age) and its "just a one off".
DM hasn't been out and about with me much during Covid. I usually rely on my DH and DH is mad on my behalf. Says I should go elsewhere for this treatment in future.
Or maybe I should move to England.....

Justmuddlingalong · 09/08/2021 18:09

💐Complain, long and loud. That's a bloody disgrace and I'm sorry you had to go through it @YeDancer.

ResilienceWanker · 09/08/2021 18:18

Oh, that is shite yedancer. I'm sorry you had that experience Sad It does sometimes seem that covid is the only thing people think about at the moment. So inconsiderate and, as you say, likely discriminatory under the EA. I do think you should complain, even if you say you had nothing against the HCP in particular - just highlighting the need for further training in that kind of thing. (Or even communication within their system... If they said they would write things down, the HCP should know to do that).

Can I have a Wine in anger on your behalf? Wink

YeDancer · 09/08/2021 18:30

Thank you.
She also asked me a lot of questions that should already have been on my record. I don't know if she was a student or anything and I'm not wanting to get anyone fired but clearly there's something wrong with their records.
My DM will kill me for complaining. She's very much "everyone makes mistakes" but this happens to me ALL the time and is worse due to Covid. You'd think in a health care setting they'd be more equality minded but nope.

riverrunning · 09/08/2021 18:37

That's really bad yedancer people should challenge them - I know it's hard to find the time though

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 18:39

Oh, @YeDancer, that sounds really horrible 💐 Very distressing

OP posts:
forfucksakenett · 09/08/2021 18:48

I would definitely complain. I suppose she has the right not to work without a mask but it was all agreed before hand so you should have been allowed to see someone willing to go maskless.

Scottishskifun · 09/08/2021 19:01

@yedancer definitely complain on several levels she should have made reasonable adjustments, not told your mum off for removing her mask so you could lip read, not commented on the level of your hearing impediment etc etc.

They won't get fired but at the very least it will raise awareness to the practises and they need to adjust their training and approach.

titsintiers · 09/08/2021 19:09

Definitely complain @YeDancer they had advance notice and could have worn clear visors.

Thanks for you and you DM

Groovee · 09/08/2021 19:14

I'd put in a complaint to the hospital ASAP.
YeDancer · 09/08/2021 19:15

yes my mum did actually point out the use of clear visors but the HCP didn't say anything in response (or maybe I didn't hear what she said).

They definitely had advance notice of my needs - I always make a point of giving advance notice specifically to avoid this kind of scenario.

Ladylunchalot · 09/08/2021 19:25

That's awful @YeDancer, you should definitely complain about that. Go onto the healthboards website and check their complaints procedure.

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 20:26

It’s a really unkind and inhumane way to treat someone.
