STV quote FM:” I have butterflies in my stomach over lifting restrictions ”

Give me strength. Such an attention seeker.

The ONLY thing which has changed today which will affect me at all is that we will no longer have to count the number of people in the charity shop where I volunteer to make sure there's not more than the maximum allowed by the "roolz". In reality we never get THAT busy so it was fairly pointless.

shouldistop · 09/08/2021 09:27

Someone I know was our clubbing last night and posted a video, tonnes of people crammed in with no masks. Great, I hope they had a fab time. But why do I have to wear one on school run so I can't even kiss my boy goodbye? Why do I have to wear it in a half empty museum?
At least make the rules fair and proportionate.

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 09:28

Forgive me @TheGenealogist for my questioning of our supreme leader who’s on a higher intellectual plain, omniscient and keeping us safe

Oh our parents all took them down for a goodbye kiss. I'll never stop a parent or make them put their mask up. So just do it.

You don’t have to wear one to drop/pick your child. It’s certainly not enforceable- ‘you can’t pick your child up, you’re not wearing a mask/you can’t have your child back’ Local nursery wasn’t treating parents like criminals for not wearing mask and was allowing parents over the threshold to comfort upset little ones. No outbreaks at all. I’d love to give them credit for all they did, but it would be unfair to name them and confirm they were breaking the ‘roolz’…(I’m not a Scotgov minister after all🤷‍♀️)

I hope that parents on drop/pick up for school or nursery settings will be using common sense and not wearing this year.

Tbh I will still do it, I probably won't wear one at all tbh but I just find it disgusting that we're told to wear them when there's people crowded indoors without them on.

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 10:06

I’ve just been at a vigorous gym class. It wasn’t full, but obviously people had to crowd together, panting and sweating.. absolutely stupid that masks required anywhere now!

I'm pretty sure "masks for school pickup" was never the rule anyway. Just something that JS said on telly once, and we all know how accurate and infallible he is Grin. It definitely wasn't in the regulations (unless you were actually going inside the school buildings) and never even made it to the "face coverings" guidance - which only referred to "busy places outside where it's not possible to SD" (or something like that) which our school playground never was (I am always at least 2m, and more often 5m or more away from anyone else there, because I'm an antisocial git). It may have been in the guidance for schools regardless of the ability to SD, but I have to say I don't read every single piece of guidance, referring to places of work that I'm not employed by! If I want to know whether I need to wear a face covering in a certain environment, I looked at the "when do I need to wear a face covering" guidance... and it wasn't there. So can't have been that important!

Scottishskifun · 09/08/2021 10:17

We get a "friendly reminder" via email systems if masks aren't worn during nursery pick up. Although it's outside. I think it might be in the ELC and schools guidelines to "encourage".

No parents have been inside the building in 18 months though I can't see them reversing it anytime soon either!

shouldistop · 09/08/2021 10:21

I think east Dunbartonshire told schools and nurseries they had to ask parents. I don't think it's the law though.

TheGenealogist · 09/08/2021 10:26

We are East Dunbartonshire and parents were being "encouraged" to wear masks to drop off and pick up. They also had staggered starts between about 8.45am and 9.15am.

We live very close to a primary school and it's been odd not hearing the bell ring several times a day.

ResilienceWanker · 09/08/2021 10:36

"Encouragement" is fine! But I don't think they should say it is SG guidance when it's actually not (unless you can't SD at pickup/ drop off). Or if it is, the same guidance should be consistent across different documents. We can't just go making up rules now, can we?!

I think schools are going to stick to virtual parents evenings and things too. Not keen on that. It's nice to actually see the classroom, work on the walls etc. And all I can focus on is the 10 minute timer ticking away, and invariably getting cut off mid sentence at the end. I know it's not the end of the world, but it is a bit impersonal! I bet no one NS has spoken to has a problem with it, though. So that'll be it now. #nodebate

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 11:07

Swinney been pontificating about masks being required all winter and beyond, and keeping them outside forever “like Asian countries”.

(where masks are actually worn because of pollution)

Online ones work really well in secondary though, not often held in the actual classroom anyway and you don't have to run round frantically and then glare at other parents taking your slot, or the ones who won't stop talking. Not as good in primary I would agree.

Mistressiggi · 09/08/2021 11:12

I think they're aiming at zero pollution in Edinburgh due to the amount of friggin bike lanes that are popping up everywhere. (I don't mind the lanes, I mind the sticking up bollards along the length of them and I mind the cyclists who come on the radio to say anyone can cycle to work)

If it rings at ours, it's usually the ring looking for the Jannie!

I hated the online nursery consultantations. We changed it to sitting by the fire at our fire pit. Much easier talking face to face.

Yes, OK... point taken. I have a primary-centric mind at the moment. Just a bit grumpy that I never saw his classroom last year (and it was a new building so I don't even understand the layout) or the alleged shrine to NS that the teacher had in the corner of the room, as reported by DS

I think those bollards have the potential to be quite dangerous. They don't leave much space for drivers to pull to one side to let emergency vehicles pass, and I do wonder how they will properly clear the "lanes" of slushy leaves and ice/snow when needed, as they won't be able to get the sweepers down there. And it pushes dodgy parkers onto the side streets where they are much more of a risk to children walking to school. Though, to be fair, I've always been too scared to cycle down main roads, because of cars parking in cycle lanes, pushing me out into the main traffic and so on, so it may help with that kind of thing.
runningpink · 09/08/2021 11:31

What masks forever??? I may as well kill myself now if that’s the case as I cannot live with them.

Why won’t this ever end.

Ladylunchalot · 09/08/2021 11:48

I hate masks as I'm slightly deaf in one ear and really rely on lip reading to hear people. I've noticed how much I must do it as I struggle to hear people with masks. Plus having hot flushes and mask wearing do not agree.

WouldBeGood · 09/08/2021 11:53

I don’t know @runningpink, I’m feeling really down about it all too.
