@ElephantOfRisk

If you are going to Mexico, I thoroughly recommend going to the Pacific coast.
Grin Oh yes... I had it all planned out. Mexico city, maybe a few days in another town, and then down to the Pacific coast for a few days by the beach... It was never going to happen, to be fair (DH looked like this when I mentioned it - - > Hmm - shortly after we finished watching Breaking Bad) but it was amaaaazing in my head. Maybe in a few years when there's less covid and it gets a bit less murder-y.
ElephantOfRisk · 07/08/2021 21:19

We went about 20 odd years ago to be fair. We were accompanied by an armed guard/policeman on every trip but it felt perfectly fine :) Horse-riding in the mountains was a bit of a highlight, but we also went sailing and many other things. DH learnt to scuba and I was sick on a fair collection of boats. Oh and we had an earthquake and rough seas for a few days following that - i'm not selling this as well as I expected...Grin We had a brilliant time really, one of my stand out holidays.

ElephantOfRisk · 07/08/2021 21:20

I've reduced myself to jumping into google maps and walking about the places featured in programmes I like or just taking myself on a wee trip to places I fancy or have been before.

Icannever · 07/08/2021 21:28

I like ‘the good life’ on Netflix and if you want to really feel like you need a holiday ‘somebody feed Phil’ is a rather nice travelling and eating food programme. My 11 year old likes it.
Family programmes we’ve watched recently (mine are 9 and 11) are lost in space, Loki and the gifted and the mysterious benedict society (this ones a bit younger) Only lost in space is on Netflix though. The others are disney plus

ElephantOfRisk · 07/08/2021 21:32

Sweet tooth on Netflix?

I like watching car restoration/pimping programmes for some reason - I have very little interest in cars! Grin But that's the sort of thing DC might enjoy also? Mine used to like Grand Designs - no idea why either.

Scottishskifun · 07/08/2021 22:09

@ResilienceWanker I know DH is tearing his hair out with the guidelines and has gone back to the SG as its worded a certain way which means it has to be followed.

They don't have to ensure SD just the space has to be big enough to..... 🙄 DH is hoping a few big events will show the issues and they will update but it's a massive issue and just means that loads of stuff won't happen as its so damn complicated!

Scottishskifun · 07/08/2021 22:15

My rail is more feeling sorry for couples in Scotland getting married!
We are at a English wedding the only person wearing a mask was the photographer. Only mention of masks was the vicar saying they were optional feel free to put one on if you wanted (nobody did in a lofty church with the door open!) vicar not wearing one either.

They have had a huge ceilidh with strangers (shock horror) holding hands, basket dances and a enthusiastic strip the willow! It's been bloody bliss!

So nice to have something completely and utterly normal!

shouldistop · 07/08/2021 23:07

We're getting baby ds christened. We've to wear masks, the minister isn't allowed to hold the baby. It's all so ridiculous.

Sad it's rules to a whole new level of madness!

Wonderful news on the christening though!

WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 01:54

Somebody Feed Phil is just great/ he’s such a personable guy.

That’s shite, @shouldistop

The new pt guy at the gym high fived me - first physical contact with a stranger for a long time! Didn’t lick him though, so I should be safe.

Went to a cafe today, genuinely forgot masks, but they didn’t care. Was nice.

If I hear one more time that tomorrow is freedom day and it will be normal I may punch someone.

I am beyond fed up now.

ElephantOfRisk · 08/08/2021 19:39

are people expecting significant/any change tomorrow?

WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 19:42

Only that the gym classes will be back to maximum bookings.

WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 19:43

They’re taking away the one way signs though, so goodness knows how I’ll find my way around SAFELY

GoldenOmber · 08/08/2021 19:46

No masks for under-12s will be a good change for me, and I’ll be slightly less nervous about the DC having to spend 10 days isolating as a close contact now.

Other than that though, really not sure I’ll see much difference. I am hoping to see lots of places remove their capacity limits and one-way systems but who even knows, especially for council-funded stuff. Our leisure centre is changing nothing as far as I can tell (but will be ‘reviewing over the coming weeks’)

ElephantOfRisk · 08/08/2021 19:47

Ah yes, DH mentioned changes at the gym and he was disappointed as he'd quite liked the limited people so he could get on the specific piece of equipment he wants. He only goes to use that and there are only 4. I just raised an eyebrow as obviously he's railed about restrictions for months but you can't have your cake and eat it! Grin.

...as for being able to find your way safely - maybe a trail of breadcrumbs?

ElephantOfRisk · 08/08/2021 19:48

I have no under 12s, don't use a gym and won't be going to a nightclub so seems like freedom day will be a damp squib for me then.

riverrunning · 08/08/2021 19:51

No booking system at the botanics anymore! I shall be gambolling in with massless kids with abandon as soon as the rain stops, or even if it doesn't at a certain point.

riverrunning · 08/08/2021 19:52

Massless? Maskless!

GoldenOmber · 08/08/2021 19:54

Was going to get DC1 back into swimming lessons but it looks like even now, parents will be asked to leave the building during 30-min lessons and that’ll be a pain in the arse. I don’t have a car to sit in and there’s nowhere so nearby it’s worth walking to for that short a time.

I am really fed up with this because DC1 loathes swimming lessons but really needs to learn and just isn’t ever going to at this rate. Will look into private lessons I suppose and hope they’re back up and running before we get to Level Minus Twenty-Eight or whenever the council ones will be workable again.

ElephantOfRisk · 08/08/2021 19:58

Aww you are making me want to do something I wasn't allowed to before but can't think of anything. I hope you all enjoy "freedom day"!!

ElephantOfRisk · 08/08/2021 20:01

Swimming was always non-negotiable in our house @GoldenOmber, I hope you get something sorted. My DC now appreciate when we are on holiday and that they are confident and capable swimmers as it makes it so much more enjoyable. As a not confident swimmer myself, it was important to me. Although mine are adults now so I can't still pack them off to the pool on a rainy weekend afternoon.

Scottishskifun · 08/08/2021 20:01

Only two things I'm looking forward to is no more quarantines because of DS nursery and my friends wedding (outside private garden) can go ahead without the registrar having to count 15 people and the 5 extras handed trays with glasses on as a decoy 😂 (which was a plan at one point!)

ResilienceWanker · 08/08/2021 20:02

@WouldBeGood

Grin I can picture you wandering aimlessly, bumping into people and trying to climb out of first floor windows without the Signs Of Safety to guide you...
WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 20:04

There’s nothing I’m looking forward to.

Really fucked off the masks remain, while even Wales getting rid in hospitality and schools. And the ongoing isolations for schools and even the double jagged
