Your safe @ElephantOfRisk I am rubbish at throwing so I’d miss!

StarryEyeSurprise · 08/08/2021 20:06

Re fireworks- if they're cancelled due to SG requirements for spacing, why is TRNSMT going ahead in Sept- surely the same rules would apply?

runningpink · 08/08/2021 20:08

Me either @WouldBeGood

Still masks and still track and trace so nothing changes

Yes I don't understand this either
GoldenOmber · 08/08/2021 20:10

I'm an awful swimmer @ElephantOfRisk so I really want my DC to learn properly. I know all the moves and everything, I just sink!

Do you all think most shops will be ditching the one-way systems? I can hardly believe it. Might go and walk counter-clockwise around Boots tomorrow just for the devil-may-care thrill of it all.

WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 20:10

And Barack Obama has had a big lovely 60th birthday party, which is great but not possible for DP

@GoldenOmber

Was going to get DC1 back into swimming lessons but it looks like even now, parents will be asked to leave the building during 30-min lessons and that’ll be a pain in the arse. I don’t have a car to sit in and there’s nowhere so nearby it’s worth walking to for that short a time.

I am really fed up with this because DC1 loathes swimming lessons but really needs to learn and just isn’t ever going to at this rate. Will look into private lessons I suppose and hope they’re back up and running before we get to Level Minus Twenty-Eight or whenever the council ones will be workable again.

Really?! Oh God... I was so hoping we'd be allowed in the buildings again. Hell - I was even hoping the cafes might be open... It wasn't too bad from April to June as it was light and less rainy and miserable, but into the autumn, that's going to be grim again. I had to cry at the manager one week in November when it was snowing, icy, tier 3 (so nothing open after 6pm), and I just couldn't face another walk around the area for an hour. Blush (He let me in, but gave me a "Disappointed" talking to...)
WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 20:12

I have had an entirely mask free weekend though without recrimination. And my friend was over last night: previously Covid worried, now ditching mask where possible after a refreshing trip to England on holiday.

I’m also dreading it when people start the fucking asymptomatic testing again, although I’ve now met a few (normal) people who are just not doing it.

I took the kids at work to lessons last week for first time since March 2020.
Not allowed inside. Kids had to turn up ready so we shoved dressing gowns on top.
Could get changed themselves afterwards or come out with towel on. We opted for towel as felt that was better for the kids. So it was a dry and change in boot of car!

Not an ideal situation at all

ElephantOfRisk · 08/08/2021 20:24

I can swim but not decent strokes so it feels laborious. Also don't like my head going under but I float well which is as important as swimming :) DH isn't bad but he learned to swim in the river at the back of his house so technique isn't very refined either. I think mine ended up in lessons for 11 years! pre school water confidence, then worked through the levels, and then did life guard training as well.

Our local sports centre that houses the (private) swimming pool has ditched the floor signs and one way system early, and the showers were even switched on after swimming!! They have never insisted we wait outside or stay out of the changing rooms to be fair, but the children learning are quite young so that would be distressing all round. In fact the owners have been quite vocal in their frustrations around the whole thing, especially being closed for so long and having to lay people off and use up their savings to try to save the business.

We also managed to just rock up at a restaurant this weekend and get a table easily without booking, AND their indoor soft play was open so (maskless) children were running about the aisles with reckless abandon, and it was great to see kids being kids. I'm hoping that a lot of businesses will relax as much as the rules allow because it makes it so much more welcoming. Personally, I'm extremely pissed off that Scotland now seems to be the outlier with the masks in hospitality thing (and don't even get me started on the shit show that is schools policy), and have to admit I'm taking a few more steps away from the table before the utterly pointless masking up on the way to the loo. Maybe over time people will gradually just 'forget' about that rule too.

Any event over 5000 applied to the SG for approval and demonstrates additional requirements, risk assessments. Smaller groups don't have the same full time people who can work out and demonstrate controls/risk assessments especially as many are by local groups.

It's in the events guidelines if your interested!

WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 20:55

I think it might be that there’s a large outlay snd no one can rely on there not being a change of rules.

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 08/08/2021 20:55

Some are cancelling due to the level of requirements they have to fulfil in order to go ahead. Some are because it would be difficult to control numbers (such as some council ones). Some are due to the uncertainty of where things will be and the cost of planning getting in then cancelling risk.
Some groups are determined to go ahead at any cost these are already having meetings with LA and the Cross group then required (police/Community leaders/fire service).

Scottishskifun · 08/08/2021 21:10

For swimming our pools have said "they are reviewing the latest guidelines" I only hope that they get rid of the booking system and very low number limit in a small area!

We have been taking DS swimming whilst in England and he's absolutely loved it!

I just hope it goes back soon so fed up with the excuse foe everything being "because of covid...." 🙄

WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 21:17

Mr G is being so selfish... he won't come with me to a night club at midnight... he's only got his 5 year update in Glasgow tomorrow to allow him to go back on the tools next week.

Groovee · 08/08/2021 21:55

I can go to a night club with no social distancing... at midnight. But when I return to work next week I have to social distance from my colleagues.

WouldBeGood · 08/08/2021 21:56

Buy Mr G a white suit and get him strutting his stuff 😂

Would MrG need a mask in a nightclub?

I'm still giggling at the thought of some girl picking up a OK looking guy in a club, only for him to reveal a face covered in spots laterGrin. I've got a really childish sense of humour.
