@Lockdownbear what day does your wee one start?

Haudyourwheesht · 06/08/2021 22:14

@Iwantthesummersun

Glad you’re home *@ResilienceWanker*

I am furious tonight to see that it’s being reported that only 79% of teaching staff have been offered their 2nd jag. I don’t believe that school staff should have been in the original first priority groups but they should all have been offered them before we went back after the summer. When I go back to school there is still a large number of my colleagues who won’t be double jagged.

DDs nursery posted similar on Facebook. Although the rules have changed meaning under 5s don't have to routinely isolate, because their staff are young very few of them have been double jagged, so they're maintaining bubbles for the time being.

Iwantthesummersun · 06/08/2021 22:35

I’m older so am already double jagged but so many of my colleagues are significantly younger and still waiting.

WouldBeGood · 06/08/2021 22:55

@Iwantthesummersun that’s weird. Dd is 19 abd second jag next week

And everyone I know in their twenties and thirties is double jagged if they want to be

That's ridiculous
What health board are you?
I'm in Lothian and everyone I know in there twenties is either double jabbed or has 2nd one very soon
My 18!yr old has date for her 2nd in 3 weeks

Mistressiggi · 07/08/2021 00:38

I don't discuss vaccines with all my colleagues but I did speak to one (he's 30) who was getting his first when I got my second, so if the gap is still 9 weeks wouldn't be due it for another week - would not therefore have any protection from the second when we return to school.
I remember lots of people younger than me getting jabbed before me, it was a bit of a lottery.

Mistressiggi · 07/08/2021 00:39

What I am railing about is whether either I or my dc will get a dentist check up before all our teeth fall out.

latissimusdorsi · 07/08/2021 00:59

Gap is now 8 weeks and can go to a drop in, don't need an appointment

Mistressiggi · 07/08/2021 01:07

That's a lot handier. Doesn't alter fact that my colleague won't have 2nd vac protection when we start back, so there's one example of the people mentioned in that report ieantthesummersun mentioned. Will be different for staff in England who return later, though on the other hand they've been working for longer into the summer so they "lose" on that side.

Iwantthesummersun · 07/08/2021 07:15

We work in Lothian but not all my colleagues live in Lothian. With 8 weeks between and the drop ins not starting until relatively late, many have had one jag but not two.

Scottishskifun · 07/08/2021 07:18

Waiting on a jab or second dose? They can just go along to the drop in centres for either 2nd dose is given after 8 weeks.
WouldBeGood · 07/08/2021 08:14

@Mistressiggi that’s really rubbish about the dentist. I think I’ve been lucky there.

OP posts:
Iwantthesummersun · 07/08/2021 08:33

Second dose it for quite a few they didn’t have dose one until into July.

WouldBeGood · 07/08/2021 08:42

Even the first jag confers good protection. And won’t be long now til second.

Lockdownbear · 07/08/2021 08:46

@Haudyourwheesht DSs nursery have similar issues very young staff not double vaccinated.
They also pointed if a case pops up young kids won't need to isolate but the staff will.
So who's looking after the kids?

Scottishskifun · 07/08/2021 08:46

@Iwantthesummersun

Second dose it for quite a few they didn’t have dose one until into July.
It's worth them counting the weeks themselves we were able to get ours way before the scheduled one by doing this.
latissimusdorsi · 07/08/2021 09:52

They changed the system for under 30s and they were able to register online for vaccine from beginning of June
My DC1 did that but, as she's only 18, it was end June before she got hers
But we know people in 20s who got it mid June and getting 2nd doses now

Lockdownbear · 07/08/2021 10:02

Although they've said 16 & 17 years olds can get the vaccine they need to wait for their appointments to come through they aren't allowing them to go to drop in clinics. Which is another issue with places with very young workers and school leavers.

Mistressiggi · 07/08/2021 11:06

Are the 16/17 year olds just waiting for a letter, like we did? If ever there was a group who could manage an online system, it's them!

WouldBeGood · 07/08/2021 12:11

Railing as local fireworks in November cancelled “cos Covid”.

No fun must happen!

OP posts:
riverrunning · 07/08/2021 12:24

How can they have decided already to cancel for Nov? Perhaps outlay too large for uncertain return - that's a real shame.

rookiemere · 07/08/2021 12:47

Cancelling things for November already -jeez. I wonder if it will be a repeat of no trick or treating this year - I hope not, even if it's "don't touch the sweeties for 2 days and leave them outside your door" we can't ban traditions forevermore.

Lockdownbear · 07/08/2021 12:51

Yes apparently so waiting for their appointment letters.

Fireworks near us was cancelled months ago. Cynic said is was a cost saving exercise. I bet they'll be private ones go ahead.

shouldistop · 07/08/2021 12:55

We went sort of guising last year. Everyone locally left pots of sweets out and waved out tue windows at the kids. It was ds1 first time anyway so he didn't know to expect anything else, he had a great time. We decorate our house and garden and have a wee party etc. I love Halloween!
