Judge me on my performance.

Oh we are Nicola, we are.

ElephantOfRisk · 30/07/2021 12:36

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

Yep *@ElephantOfRisk*, top of the European league for all the wrong reasons yet again. The deaths will only be the tip of the iceberg too - how many are addicts but haven't died? No doubt this will be Westminster's fault somehow (despite the UK, with the same laws, showing less than a third of our deaths). I see the Scottish Tories are putting forward a bill to tackle it - hopefully they can all put their politics to one side for a minute and work together because this is beyond disgraceful.
And we had all the promises last year and the token sacking. But it's been increasing for years and SNP cut the budget years ago.

But then, if they didn't die of covid then they don't really matter right? These are not the "good" people, the clappers of NHS, the mask wearers, the rule followers...

Well some of us are, others seem to still vote for them even when they seem to have the anti midas touch, everything they touch turns to shite.
Scottishskifun · 30/07/2021 13:06

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us I really fail to understand how everything and like everything is caused by WM but that's the attitude some have!

Let's just hope the SNP review it properly and actually accept it rather then spouting the usual big bad WM! Don't give a crap get on with sorting out the sorry state of affairs your in charge of!

titsintiers · 30/07/2021 13:18

Maybe they think majoring on Covid stats will mean we all forget about the other depressing issues.

Tomorrowisanewday · 30/07/2021 13:19

ssd - just catching up from yesterday. Not having people in our office doesn't mean our landlord waives the rent, unfortunately Sad

frasersmummy · 30/07/2021 14:11

I haven't watched the updates for a few weeks ..I am fed up with her talking and saying nothing. so can anyone tell me has she enlightened us as to what's happening in terms of exams this year

That's optimistic! She's not even said what's happening with school returns in a few weeks or even what 'beyond level zero is for a weeks time yet!
WouldBeGood · 30/07/2021 15:49

The drugs deaths are a tragedy. 5% up on the previous year. So getting even worse.

I have no idea his people can excuse this, apart from the attempt last year to say it was how they were counted, which turned out to be false.

WouldBeGood · 30/07/2021 15:49

Have they really just scrapped exams with no replacement? For this coming academic year?

Scottishskifun · 30/07/2021 15:56

I think it's assessments with no final decision yet on exams as far as I am aware (from twitter etc!)

Is anyone trying to excuse it? It's inexcusable surely?
WouldBeGood · 30/07/2021 16:21

People did last year, and people still vote for them
And they are never called out on it effectively. They excuse it by saying uk drugs laws, etc.

Dunno. It makes me quite sad

ElephantOfRisk · 30/07/2021 16:24

Yes, people tried to excuse it last year by saying it's because we counted differently and because we hadn't been allowed to have drug rooms but that doesn't work really as the counting method was debunked and might make one or two people either way. The rUK has the same laws and restrictions and obviously very different numbers.

Some posters will support the SNP regardless though.

Big promises and new person put in charge last year but here we are again and the apologies continue.

forfucksakenett · 30/07/2021 16:24

People vote for them by weighing up lots of different things. A vote for a political party doesn't mean that your think everything they do is wonderful. Look at the number of Tory haters on these threads who voted Tory. I'm stunned that anyone is trying to defend this tbh. They must be lunatics. Any high profile defenders?

latissimusdorsi · 30/07/2021 16:34

It's very sad but it's a lot more complex than just having more funding for treatment for addiction
Root of the problems need addressing too
Poverty, poor education, lack of opportunities, poor health all contribute to drugs death
I suspect we may find these areas have been getting worse in Scotland too

WouldBeGood · 30/07/2021 17:04

It is indeed due to poverty, and deprivation. And there’s no push to resolve it.

WouldBeGood · 30/07/2021 17:17

A quick glance at Twitter reveals that - surprise!- it’s all the Tories fault, from the 80s.

riverrunning · 30/07/2021 17:26

Dh was taken by ambulance to hospital the early part of the summer as lock down was unleashing and the driver said they'd had a spate of awful overdoses as people had effectively been in a force detox during lockdown and then supply barrelled back.

I agree people vote for the least worst party, I can see in another life with different skills and life experience I could support the SNP - not in drug deaths though!

WouldBeGood · 30/07/2021 17:48

My problem is that they e been in power now for years, and people’s lives are getting worse, not improving.

Scottishskifun · 30/07/2021 17:53

I think blaming the Torys for the 70s and 80s is a bit like being in the 1980s blaming all German people for the war! Yes some people can remember it and yes it was shite but for many people wasn't in their life times as it was a long time ago and there has been a lot of changes, including of govt set up of the SG and different parties in charge in that time from Labour to coalition back to Tories since!

Even if the Tories hadn't done their measures on historic industries they are unlikely to have survived through to this point anyway just look at hoe much the remaining UK steel industry needs propping up as can't compete with cheaper global prices same with textiles.

latissimusdorsi · 30/07/2021 17:54

I see PHE have now published the figures we've all been crying out for
According to BBC website PHE asked the nhs in England to separate out the numbers for admitted to hospital with Covid as primary reason and admitted to hospital for another reason and tested positive
23% are in hospital for another reason (so would have been in hospital anyway!)
Anyone know if Scotland have published stats like this yet?

Scottishskifun · 30/07/2021 17:56

@latissimusdorsi there have been many calls to do so including from the national statistics authority but to date SG have resisted doing so...... 🙄

latissimusdorsi · 30/07/2021 17:57

Sorry I'm rubbish at doing links🙈
