You're right @Scottishskifun. Westminster isn't to blame for the present government, or any other for that matter.

ssd · 05/08/2021 09:28

I want to live in Gairloch, where we are just now. Without the midges eating us alive.

Failing that, Big Sur.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/08/2021 10:15

I think there is just as much nepotism and wasted money in SG as there is in Westminster tbh, we just don't get to hear about it as they don't dob each other in and media are useless, plus it's obviously on a lower scale as we have a 10th of the money in the first place.

Our "parents" aren't just strict, they also have no clue what a normal life is, no compassion and a one track mind.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 05/08/2021 10:59

@titsintiers

I couldn't really name a country that's done well. It's more a case of who is less shit. Fair enough the gamble with the vaccine paid off for Boris and co, that's what they'll be remembered for.

We've definitely got the strictest 'parents' though.

I don't know about that! I saw on the news last weekend that Syndey was locked down due to 13 cases of the Delta variant, and the reporter was following troops as they went door to door checking people were staying in.

I have a family member in NZ and that's been their job too - actually mainly curfew patrols.

We've never had that level of control, especially in light of such few cases.

ResilienceWanker · 05/08/2021 11:00

The idea of NS and JS being my parents is making me feel a little queasy if you don't mind. Along with JL being the "cool" big brother in the nightclub from yesterday. I think I need some fresh air.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 05/08/2021 11:02

Are masks in schools going to be this years blended learning? I think they might change back to corridors etc.

rookiemere · 05/08/2021 11:05

I'm not sure if Boris and Carrie would actually be worse. He'd be the type to leave you on the beach and tap you up for a loan as an adult oh and chat up all your friends and she'd be the glacially unwelcoming step mother.

Grellbunt · 05/08/2021 11:06

I find the negativity around masks bizarre. Reports from a certain place abroad where FFP2 masks are enforced rigidly and you see nobody without them. Virtually no cases.

Grellbunt · 05/08/2021 11:07

Despite everything being open completely as normal.

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 11:11

I absolutely despise masks. Each to their own. but the vaccines work so no need for the weird dehumanising things.

Though not criticising people who want to wear them

Grellbunt · 05/08/2021 11:15

If it's the price of opening without restrictions I'd accept them. I hate them too. At least an FFP2 mask is effective. Don't understand why you'd wear a basic one that it's uncomfortable and dehumanising and not even effective! If I'm covering my face I want to be sure it's for a good reason.

OnceUponAWhine · 05/08/2021 11:17

Sigh. Come back 2019 when children freely breathed out all their bugs at school with their peers and parents eye rolled if they needed a day or two off with bugs/virus and we had to call work to meekly explain your situation to colleagues/all the folk without children made you feel like crap for doing so…I miss those days, the judgement was easier to handleGrin

Our ‘parents’ and uncle Jason are the embarrassing ones, full stop. Vertical or otherwise.

rookiemere · 05/08/2021 11:20

I'd be happy enough with masks as a compromise if it could guarantee our DCs uninterrupted schooling ( and ideally understanding what's happening with exams as well but as far as I can see that's a SG generated own goal and nothing to do with coronavirus).

Totally understand that some people have bigger issues with mask wearing.

But it's not giving us or our DCs anything and as no mandate on what type of mask to wear ( because masks effective against Delta are pricey and who should pay for that) it's pretty pointless posturing.

Actually I like the sound of that "Pretty Pointless Posturing " reflects most of the ongoing CV mitigations.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/08/2021 11:21

Well maybe try saying to all the folk raped, sexually abused, violently attacked with someone's hand over their mouth that masks are no big deal and they should just suck it up. For no reason other than Nicola thinks its no big deal.

I don't mind wearing masks. I will do so when needed. Not sure I could wear one of these though as N95 masks make me feel ill. OK with cloth or the surgical ones though.

But my glasses steam up ridiculously with any mask.

I don't go places where I need to wear a mask for long periods of time. I don't really go shopping anymore- well apart from a quick in out of supermarket or if I need to go somewhere in town. No longer a enjoyable saunter in town. This is due to masks and my glasses steaming up and my nose getting incredibly itchy.

So it doesn't actually make much difference to me restrictions or not. I simply can't do what I used to do due to wearing of masks.

And I say that as someone who still wears a masks indoors even though I don't need to.

riverrunning · 05/08/2021 11:28

Pretty pointless posturing is a good thread title! Absolutely.l what it is and thoughtless to people the posture measures do affect.

My firm are happy for me to work at any time of day and with kids making whatever noise in the back ground post lockdown Ferber-izing of management but I'm not!

I want a return to boundaries and not working whilst the poor kids are bored witless in the background for my sanity...

rookiemere · 05/08/2021 11:38

@riverrunning I went into the office yesterday although we're only meant to go if we have a mental health need to work there.
It was definitely fuller than last time and I get so much more done - less Mumsnet for example Blush-. Some people have clearly reverted to working there every day - I prefer a balance, but definitely planning on going in once a week unless numbers go back up as we have holiday plans for October break and don't want to get caught under T&T.

riverrunning · 05/08/2021 11:44

Yes the novel idea of work-life separation rookie

Wfh is not ideal for people who procrastinate, although if I wasn't on mumsnet I'd probably be waffling to a colleague!

rookiemere · 05/08/2021 11:51

Yeah but colleague waffling sometimes leads to productive knowledge and definitely builds rapport.

Met someone yesterday from old area where effectively we'd been blocking each other's requests for months for various reasons and every call turned into a battle. Chatted to him and had forgotten he's actually a nice guy with a rubbish set of work issues and doing the best he can.

You miss so much not seeing people in person and getting these nuances. Plus there was something outstanding and had I been at home I'd have checked the laptop after dinner and dog walk but as I was switching it off told them to come back today.

Costing me a fortune though as a new sushi place has opened up on Lothian road.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/08/2021 11:52

I suspect that anything other than a full return to work without distancing and masks is unlikely to be of any use to me. My bosses are all based in England. I have one colleague in my team based in the same office and as I understand it we'd need to be staggered to come in on different days as it stands. So no point me being in for human contact and collaborative working anymore than us both being in our houses. I could however set us up an office in my house where we could work with no masks etc. I might suggest this if colleague happy to travel. She doesn't have a spare room to use as an office so is on the dining table every day.

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 12:05

Pretty Pointless Posturing, the perfect new slogan!

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 12:05

That sounds a good plan @ElephantOfRisk.

ElephantOfRisk · 05/08/2021 12:14

@WouldBeGood

That sounds a good plan *@ElephantOfRisk*.
Not that i'm back at work yet. I said weeks ago to my boss that my expectation would be to come back this coming week but I still have no return to work plan plus the last conversation I had with my boss he knocked my recovery back a bit and that's also not resolved. I'm going to run out of sick pay and it's work that it going to have caused it. Not really sure what to do now other than contact the GP and get signed off again. Had about 4 hours sleep last night just with all this shite and the "non" covid restriction release day - yay! Sad Angry
WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 12:24

@ElephantOfRisk 💐 that’s all shite.

rookiemere · 05/08/2021 12:27

Sorry to hear that @ElephantOfRisk .
I think the pandemic will have pushed a lot of people over the edge and it's easy now to forget about that as things superficially go back to normal, still a lot of pieces to pick up.
