Things moved quickly so I just started a new one ...

You are spot on @ResilienceWanker. I'd rather not wear one for personal reasons and it's stopping me doing things. Things that if I was doing them would help my mental health. But hey why is that of any importance? I've stuck with the rules as I'm generally a rule follower plus DH works in a job where it could affect his employment. Being angry and annoyed about it is also not doing my mental health any good.

Can't win.

ssd · 04/08/2021 21:35

I know I'm more cautious than most due to my job and getting public transport all week but i don't ever test myself, I'm paranoid enough without all that going on. And we travel about and go to lots of places but I'm just mindful of space and social distancing. The masks thing is a pain but I'm now more worried about going to work or getting the train without any masks rather than anything else.

ssd · 04/08/2021 21:38

Ive got no issues with anyone not wearing a mask as long as they keep a wee distance, in my shop people pull their masks down and walk right into your face, its like whoaaa...but then again this was annoying before covid..

ElephantOfRisk · 04/08/2021 21:41

It's perfectly fine for folk who want to wear masks in certain situations (or any situation) to keep wearing them. No-one is going to stop you from doing that. The problem is that people who don't want to don't have any choice. But Nicola thinks it's not a problem so we are stuffed.

GoldenOmber · 04/08/2021 21:45

Same here ResilienceWanker. I find it harder to wear a mask than a lot of people seem to but I have never claimed to be exempt, because I'm not, and I've powered through it and worn them in every situation where I'm supposed to. But I would quite like to not have to wear them forever. And now even asking any questions at all about how long they're here for while still wearing them is, like you said, framed as being selfish or uncaring?

Maybe the ridiculous 'exemption' for nightclubs will change things, though? Bit hard to claim with a straight face that Tesco/church/nursery pick-up/empty train carriage is a dangerous infection risk, but a packed-out nightclub doesn't warrant them.

ResilienceWanker · 04/08/2021 21:55

Yes, I've said before, if given the choice, I'd probably wear them voluntarily a lot of the time anyway! And I have always tried to give people space in shops and stuff, because I'm not a wanker. But it's the enforcement of that that's annoying! Plus, it feels like "they" have decided that masks are better protection than ventilation, or SD or anything else, which I know the data says is balls. I'd rather do my bit of protecting others by staying some distance away, but I'm not given that option. Whereas people who want to shout in people's faces are "fine" to do that as long as they have a mask on...

ssd · 04/08/2021 22:18

Sorry to ask a stupid question but is mask wearing enforceable by law? I dont see how that actually works if it is. I see lots of people in Central Station and on trains not wearing them now, but its never enforced. Has anyone actually been done for this?

ElephantOfRisk · 04/08/2021 22:26

I believe it is and the only time i was on a train everyone was wearing them. It didn't involve Glasgow though so maybe it depends where you live? Grin

I also don't see people in supermarkets without them here. We walked to get an ice-cream today and a woman was leaning into the shop trying to pick a flavour from the counter at the far end from the door and directing her husband as to what she wanted. She had forgotten her mask so couldn't go in - so she was telling me as we were waiting outside to go in. So yes, compliance near me is pretty much still total so I really couldn't just not bother as i'd stand out like a sore thumb.

ssd · 04/08/2021 22:40

Its only recently I've noticed it in central, i think folk are just getting fed up, especially teenagers

ssd · 04/08/2021 22:42

@ElephantOfRisk, I'd get a lanyard

Plenty people not wearing masks when I was on the train from Edinburgh to Fife on Saturday. I didn't wear mine either. Ok I was drinking a drink but even when it was finished I didn't put the mask back on.

Thanks ssd but I don't do lanyards either. At work I keep my pass in my pocket - i've no idea why but I feel like just a number wearing my identity (or anything round my neck). I've come to the conclusion i'm just a weirdo with rules for myself that no-one else gives a shit about! Grin

I’m now at full on Malcolm Tucker-esque swears every time one of the reigning numpties or hangers on speak. ‘Vertical drinking’ give me fucking strength.
Add to that, wee Nic needing to dry her crocodile tears about Boris not joining her for a mask wearing walk to the tea table, to discuss Covid recovery, when all she’s done lately is put barriers up to progress…it’s been a sweary day.
All eyes on for the 9th, they have to align with England and Wales for schools, they absolutely have to…surely? Bunch of numpty fooks.

ssd · 04/08/2021 22:54

Jesus @OnceUponAWhine if i could understand your post I'd be doing well

Nah, I hate standing out or drawing attention to myself so wearing the mask along with everyone else or just not going out and not doing things seems to be the only way to go. I've gone back to the wonders of click and collect for this week's shop after trying just going to the supermarket last week.

Meh. I forgot my mask today as I’ve been away in the ‘land of the free to make personal choices’ south of Berwick, but hadn’t transferred my grotty mask across to handbag. So I had to brazen it out at co-op. I wasn’t alone and I’m so very sweary about it all that I must have given off the vibe that I shouldn’t be asked to leave.

Have to say, many cheap thrills felt by not wearing a mask anywhere for the last week. Literally switched off from oppressive Covid feels, until I crossed back into the Republic of Gilead Scotland.

I couldn't agree more!
ElephantOfRisk · 04/08/2021 23:07

Anyone feel like other countries have the best parents (governments) who prioritise them and give them good experiences so that they are self confident and ambitious, and we've got Sturgeon and Swinney who buy you Nakey instead of Nike and give you a 7pm curfew so you get an absolute red neck from your pals?

titsintiers · 05/08/2021 07:10

I couldn't really name a country that's done well. It's more a case of who is less shit. Fair enough the gamble with the vaccine paid off for Boris and co, that's what they'll be remembered for.

We've definitely got the strictest 'parents' though.

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 08:20

@ElephantOfRisk I did a click and collect this week too! Couldn’t face the Big Shop

ssd · 05/08/2021 08:22

I dont think they'll be remembered for the vaccine. They'll be remembered by the millions they gave to their pals for ppe contracts. We haven't heard it all yet, far from it.
This is the most self serving government we've ever seen. I know you all hate the SG but they dont hold a candle to westminster.

WouldBeGood · 05/08/2021 08:30

They played a blinder with the vaccines though. Remarkable as it is.

Scottishskifun · 05/08/2021 08:51

@ssd mask wearing is in law yes but it's enforcement is by the police and I think many areas they have enough stuff to get on with!

I would like to be living in New Zealand as its pretty normal for ages but I hope kiwis are watching Australia and going ah better get jabs! But also NZ is a amazing country and feels completely different south island compared to North!

I think a lot people overlook contract scandals here because of the success the UK has achieved with full steam on vaccinations. I had a extreme nationalist try to tell me that the vaccine availability was nothing to do with UK govt and the vaccine dept was all propaganda! I did think jeez your that dillusional that you fail to accept that thousands of people have worked their socks off for procurement, investment in research, supply chain and keeping it all going!

I think that's what pisses me off the most when people just shout about WM! They have issues with individual politicians or parties, yet there are tens of thousands of civil servants who do everything from ensuring there is enough energy for power supply to cyber security, pollution and even things like getting a passport! But they still get lumped in to whatever someones feelings are and "it's all useless" 🙄
