@goldengoldfish

Was there any mention of further review dates or periods to consider the ongoing restrictions and conditions?
Looks like maybe six weeks for review for the school thing? Beyond that, can’t see anything on the published speech.

We’re going to get to the year 20326AD and all humans will have ascended into the astral plane as beings made of pure energy, and the SG will still be telling us to wear masks on our way to the toilet in Cafe Nero.

riverrunning · 03/08/2021 18:02

No it's still beating me - what can we do that we couldn't previously do? Other than nightclubs which I've not been to in 20 years!

We can have social distancing of 1m still advised so:

I'm assuming the interactive stuff is still off, the libraries and the swimming pools are going to continue their booking systems with restricted numbers so no change there for parents.

No change to schools.

That's it, isn't it?

latissimusdorsi · 03/08/2021 18:10

I suspect anywhere that relies on number of customers coming through the door for their income will get rid of social distancing
Anywhere funded by local or central government will not

Dissimilitude · 03/08/2021 18:14

The only glimmer of hope I have is that if the English numbers continue to improve despite being more or less fully open, she’ll have no choice but to follow suit.

GoldenOmber · 03/08/2021 18:17

1m distancing seems like the perfect useless combination of not enough to stop the spread of the virus, but definitely enough to stop places opening at normal capacity.

Pootle40 · 03/08/2021 18:20

@Rae36

The BBC are reporting "Most Covid Rules To End In Scotland on 9th August"

It doesn't feel that way to me

That almost made me laugh too if it weren't for the fact it's not funny
Scottishskifun · 03/08/2021 18:26

@riverrunning no limits on numbers (unless an event) or households for restaurants or pubs so meals or drinks out with a wider group of friends or work mates can happen. Would say birthday parties or ceilidhs but you would have to put a face mask on to dance if a registered venue which is beyond shite!
No restrictions on how many people in your house or garden so big bbqs or birthday parties there. No restrictions on wedding guest numbers (especially important for private garden ones which were limited to 15!) but again have to wear a mask if a venue for dancing....... 🙄

I think many people will ignore her tbh but the problem is that the businesses can then get in trouble and be reported ( the number of busybodies who like to complain to the council EHOs and licensing officers about covid is ridiculous!)

I'm sure some will think it's all fine!
I think many will be booking more trips to England for weekend escapes especially if they want a night out with dancing!

riverrunning · 03/08/2021 18:44

It's an absolute shame that the low cost council run kids activities will be the absolute laggers in relaxing restrictions, as well as museums etc.

Meh, I'm not exactly surprised.

WouldBeGood · 03/08/2021 18:49

Won’t people get married in England too?

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 18:57

So, what happened to the summer of fun for the kids? The bikes? the laptops? all the other bribes...?

Then on the other hand, all the scandals, drugs deaths, misspent indy funds, sqa, ferries, ferrier (what ever happened to her?), sexting etc etc etc.

At least westminster tory backbenchers challenge, SNP ones taken a vow of silence and must not criticise. It's sinister.

WouldBeGood · 03/08/2021 19:00

Some wag on Twitter has called it Level Nippy 😂

WouldBeGood · 03/08/2021 19:04

They’re also closing drug rehab centres, like the one in Dundee, but no answers on it.

GoldenOmber · 03/08/2021 19:06

So, what happened to the summer of fun for the kids? The bikes? the laptops? all the other bribes...?

Oh, I find it's delightful fun waiting forever in socially distanced queues for the attraction you've had to pre-book and pay for so you're damn well going even though it's raining, snapping at your bored grumbling children to stop pinging their masks at each other, before following a one-way system round past closed cafes and multiple hand sanitiser stations...

Still, better than the months when the only recreational thing they were allowed to do was colour in Thank You NHS rainbow posters I suppose.

Scottishskifun · 03/08/2021 19:06

@WouldBeGood

Many English couples come to Scotland to get married for picturesque element or to Gretna. I think numbers of these will likely drop quite a lot once they realise that means guests wearing masks for the ceremony and any dancing. Can't blame them given the choice of no mask option available or venues supposed to be implementing mask wearing.

Scottish couples I think if they are by the borders then yes it's more likely. The paperwork is a bit of a logistical nightmare though (saying as someone living in Scotland who got married in England).

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 19:07

Twice the number of people died from drugs in the year than people who died from covid without an already life compromising health problem.

Where is their daily announcement?

WouldBeGood · 03/08/2021 19:17

@ElephantOfRisk that’s pretty stark.

WouldBeGood · 03/08/2021 19:18

@Scottishskifun I’d undertake any amount of paperwork to have a proper jolly wedding

ElephantOfRisk · 03/08/2021 19:21

It is, the time has come to stop all the announcements of "cases" and deaths etc etc. we don't need those figures, they are meaningless but the fact that (per 100k) the biggest number of daily positives is in the 15-19 age group is obviously fuelling the actions taken despite this age group not all fighting for ICU beds.

When we need to know that there is an increase of folk in ICU ill from covid then come and tell us. Otherwise just shut up

Scottishskifun · 03/08/2021 19:25

I would as well! Church of England weddings would be pretty tricky though!

user1487194234 · 03/08/2021 19:48

That's rubbish for students,especially for the ones who don't go away
Hard enough for them to meet people and join in

ResilienceWanker · 03/08/2021 20:02

Re the masked dancing - one of the exemptions in the Regulations is that you don't have to wear a mask when "taking part in exercise of a type which reasonably requires that the person is not wearing a face covering". I think it's reasonable that you can't wear a mask while stripping the willow, just like you can't when running on a treadmill or swimming. Can wedding ceilidhs not just rebrand as exercise classes and then they'll be fine?! (same for nightclub boogieing, though other exercise undertaken there may be more difficult to argue for that exemption Grin).
