I haven't heard any of the announcement so just catching up
OMG @dancemom is SG holding school kids to random against the JCVI?
What happens if they just override and decide to vaccinate teenagers?
My bet would be most parents of beer 16s will listen to JCVI and won't accept vaccine

latissimusdorsi · 03/08/2021 14:51

ransom not random

ResilienceWanker · 03/08/2021 14:52

@dancemom

Did anyone else take from her wording, that vaccines for 12-18 year old are about to be approved??
I did wonder that. She said they would be standing by, or whatever the phrase she used last time was - but I think she also said that there was going to be an announcement from the JCVI on that - though I may have misheard that (DHs beer case arrived at that point Grin) Her speech isn't on the website at the moment, but I'll check the exact wording.
dancemom · 03/08/2021 14:53

I thought she said there was going to be an announcement from the JCVI imminently also

So the number of people allowed in my house and who I can meet outside is going?

But schools screwed still, mask wearing everywhere but no distancing required? Is that right? Sorry refused to watch it on I player incase I lobbed something!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/08/2021 14:55

So bloody angry about schools. It's not just the masks and impact on teaching but presumably this will also mean at least another half term without changing facilities for PE or most extra-curricular activities.

Pootle40 · 03/08/2021 14:56

Draft question but what actually is happening on 9th august? Will indoor concerts be allowed again!?

dancemom · 03/08/2021 14:57

I'm so frustrated about schools, that's another term thrown away. Dd starts her highers and yet still can't play her instrument for music and is at an immediate disadvantage as she is taking 2 MFLs which is so difficult to do with masks and distancing.

Yes. Your child can invite their entire school year over to your house for a wild party, with lots of teenage dancing and snogging.

But they have to socially distance and wear a mask in school.

dancemom · 03/08/2021 14:59

@Scottishskifun that's pretty much it

@Pootle40 organises have to apply for permission for mass gatherings so the SG can judge their risk assessments and Covid procedures

My DD is doing drama, @dancemom. Socially distanced and masked up drama, where they're not allowed to touch or go near any other students.

Teaandakitkat · 03/08/2021 15:02

"Beyond level 0"
Fuck's sake.

She keeps going on about our new freedoms being significant and hard-earned, but fuck all seems to have changed for us.

ResilienceWanker · 03/08/2021 15:04

She is trying to make things as shitey as possible for children, teachers and parents so that we'll agree to the vaccination when she strongarms the JCVI into saying kids should have them, to make her shut up and go away.

Oh God. This kind of crossed my mind last week when she was going on about wanting the JCVI to review their decision... but I didn't think she'd actually go through with it. So is that what the 6 week review is going to be, then... "have they agreed to vaccinate children yet? No? Well, we'll keep the restrictions a bit longer then..." It's just never ending...

WouldBeGood · 03/08/2021 15:09

Anything on live music in pubs?

WouldBeGood · 03/08/2021 15:09

And I think nightclubs but with masks @ssd….

dancemom · 03/08/2021 15:15

I take it masks procedures in bars and pubs etc will remain, ie sitting down you can't catch Covid but walking to the toilet you can so put your mask on

OP posts:
Cismyfatarse · 03/08/2021 15:15

I would far, far rather she had kept level 0 or whatever the fuck we are in now, kept nightclubs closed, and put children and young people first.

They have none of the risks but (apart from severe illness and death) have borne many of the worst harms to their lives.

latissimusdorsi · 03/08/2021 15:20

Am I right in saying teachers can now go to pubs, cinemas, nightclubs with no social distancing from a load of strangers but have to keep 1m distance from their colleagues in school?

Scottishskifun · 03/08/2021 15:20

Ah right!
Welcome to Scotland where the SG "put children and education first which is right to do so.........." wasn't that the line in March?!

Sorry for all of those with school age children especially secondary it's beyond shit!

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 03/08/2021 15:21

I am so angry right now I'm going to have to shut down social media for a bit, but it's worse than I expected. I really thought they'd have to have schools back as normal at the very least, but instead we have more of the same for at least 6 weeks (which takes us into autumn and rising cases again, so let's face it, we're not getting rid of restrictions then). In primary, the whole class will be close contacts as before, because little kids can't remember who they were playing with on x day, which means more meltdowns in testing centres by my child who so traumatised by repeated COVID testing he has a tantrum at the mere mention of it. I agree it does sound very much like she's trying to strong arm the JCVI into recommending something which, after considering all the evidence, they have safety concerns about! It's clear that education is a lower priority to her than controlling spread, even now when we've reduced the harms as much as is possible to do. If we don't accept the risks of COVID now, we never will.

And as a side rail, I won't be back into the office until she dumps the work from home default position, so my mental health will continue to take a battering as I can't get back to normal even though I desperately need to. I really think that's us until next year now. Cases will probably rise when schools go back if everyone tests a couple of times a week, and these review periods will take us into autumn/winter and she won't want to release anything then (and has hinted she may actually reimpose restrictions), so we're talking next spring before moving past level -1 to level -2. That would be potentially an additional 9 months after England's extremely successful full reopening, and for what?? What exactly is she waiting for??

ResilienceWanker · 03/08/2021 15:22

To be fair, nightclubs aren't actually listed in the regulations as a place you need to wear a mask Because they haven't been allowed to open at all , and from Monday the rule is "wear a mask in indoor venues where you have to at the moment" - so they may get away with it Wink (no, they won't get away with it... They'll probably say nightclubs are "entertainment venues" though they have been their own class up to now when entertainment venues were allowed to open but nightclubs and "adult entertainment" weren't).

Scottishskifun · 03/08/2021 15:22

Correcto mongo do they even sense check this stuff you couldn't make half od it up the way it contradicts!

It's totally meaningless!! It's like they've let the school "subgroup" write their own rules, and not even bothered checking them against the main rules to ensure they don't actually contradict them! GIRFEC, my arse.
Cismyfatarse · 03/08/2021 15:35

Plus we were promised an update at the start of August from SAS (Somerville) on exams / assessment next year.

So, for the final 3 years of school we still don't know what we are aiming for.

Total car crash. No concern at all.
