My boss just came back to work today after having coronavirus; he said he couldn't get out of bed and was throwing up 4-5 times an hour for 11 days solid. He's broken a tooth because he was shivering so violently.

He had one jab when he caught it.

Sounds so grim.

rookiemere · 14/07/2021 22:28

@SoMuchForSummerLove I've not heard of people throwing up with coronavirus before.

That’s sounds like stomach flu. Perhaps he had CV too, but throwing up is certainly not the usual covid symptoms.
SoMuchForSummerLove · 14/07/2021 22:55

He definitely had it, one of about a dozen in my office that caught it. He seems to have had a weird reaction to it, for everyone else it was the standard symptoms as far as I know.

WouldBeGood · 14/07/2021 23:04

Being unwell at home is no reason for restrictions on our lives, however unpleasant for the individual.

I’ve said it before, but two years ago I had a very unpleasant respiratory illness which left me confined to bed for a week (literally except to crawl to my loo) and with ongoing effects for a couple of months. This is not all new stuff.

I’d also ask people to read Alasdair Monroe, a paediatrician on Twitter, for a non hysterical approach.

Two doses of the vaccines provide 90% protection against hospitalisation from the Delta strain

Not so much heard of vomiting with covid but certainly heard of people with the runs.

Non-covid topic, when people say you should stay out the Sun between 12 & 2 they should specify which latitude they actually mean. I'm not convinced that the rule applies to Scotland.

Scottishskifun · 15/07/2021 02:22
@SoMuchForSummerLove I've not heard of people throwing up with coronavirus before.
It's one of the more unusual symptoms.
There's actually over 20 main symptoms which is recorded by the zoe app. The higher the number of symptoms you have in the first week the greater chance of long covid.

@Lockdownbear I dunno it was pretty darn hot at lunchtime at the Costa del Cockermouth the other week. Our particularly Scottish nephew burnt after a game of outdoor mini golf. That's England I suppose though and DH is always telling me it's much warmer there.

It's a non Covid reason that I'm secretly slightly relieved we're now not going to Majorca next month. I could scarcely cope with 20 degrees in the Lake District- why on earth did I think that double would be enjoyable Grin.

titsintiers · 15/07/2021 07:24

Could you sit in a wide brimmed hat and sip on a cocktail @rookiemere? That'd be my tactic.

rookiemere · 15/07/2021 07:37

I did in fact by a broad brimmed hat at Keswick @titsintiers , but we're definitely not going abroad now so I'm doing a lot of self justification of the decision, although £800 in tests and threat of being stranded abroad are good enough reasons for me.

titsintiers · 15/07/2021 07:51

I think we are all doing that. We've booked to go away in October, we'll see if that happens or not. Really hoping it does though.

shouldistop · 15/07/2021 08:20

No railing today, loving the summer weather. Ds1 off to nursery for the morning, baby ds now goes for a 90 minute nap every morning and 60 minutes in the afternoon so life is getting a bit easier.
At 1pm I'll pick big ds up and take the boys swimming to the outdoor pool at David Lloyd. DH will probably do a bbq.
Baby ds is crawling everywhere, time to get a play pen sorted.

rookiemere · 15/07/2021 08:39

Sounds like a great plan @shouldistop , wish I wasn't wfh today.
The David Lloyd outdoor pool is amazing on days like this, it's actually better than being abroad as it's so relaxing to just drive there and enjoy. So glad I joined Smile.

latissimusdorsi · 15/07/2021 08:40

That's sounds lovely @shouldistop
I remember your posts from the early days last winter when DS was newborn
You've come such a long way
A great advert for "it'll get better" though not much consolation to folk at the time when they're so sleep deprived Smile

I'm the same... I'm really rubbish in the heat. We went to southern France in the summer holidays in 2019 where there was a heatwave and it was over 40 every day and I basically died. There was a lot of popping into places just to use their air con...And I had a HUGE hat. And quite a few cocktails.

It is a shame about your holiday though. It does all sound a bit stressful for me I have to say, working out the correct combination of testing, worrying about the return test and so on. We've definitely decided 2021 we're going to stick to wet weekend in Wales kind of holidays.

Aaahh! That sounds lovely! I agree, it sounds like things are so much better for you. Smile I was very suspicious of the outdoor pool while we were away, but it was actually lovely to be able to swim while looking at the trees and sky and things. I felt very Earth Goddess. Pity about the dead flies in there, but you can't have everything Grin

DS is doing "day camping" at holiday club today. I've told him it's the only camping he's going to do, so he'd better make the most of it. I think he's just excited that they get to light a fire and do marshmallows.

rookiemere · 15/07/2021 11:49

Och @ResilienceWanker I just feel mighty relieved that we've made the decision to bin the holiday. I've known from late June that I didn't want to go, but because it was a shared villa with friends it all got a bit complicated. Majorca going Amber again has vindicated the decision, but I do wonder when all this is going to end.

We've also got a Tenerife trip booked for October and if general prevalence of Covid is lower by then - we have to reach herd immunity at some point right ? - then we'll brave that , test costs and all.

Plus Tenerife in October is about 25 degrees rather than 40 Wink.

Icannever · 15/07/2021 12:57

Tenerife in December is just the right temperature for me 😀

We went to Tenerife in Dec 2019. Mr G was 50 and said he wanted on tap beer in the sun... so I made his wish come true. It was awesome. Would do it again if school term dates work. 26 degrees and it was just perfect.

I met up with my best friends from school today. Such a fab reunion and good to be back together.

I've also grown my first cucumber 🥒

rookiemere · 15/07/2021 20:35

We're currently sitting in the theatre. It's a bit grim at a third capacity and no choc Ices or bar, but hey live theatre.

Lockdownbear · 15/07/2021 20:39

Rookie, Cockermouth is lovely but go dip your toes in the sea. I was in the see at St Bees last year it was surprisingly warm.

I can't believe the heat today.
You know if Scotland could be guaranteed two weeks like today nobody would go abroad.

mibbelucieachwell · 16/07/2021 13:21

Thinking about scottishski and anyone else suffering badly from long covid. Apologiesif this is irrelevant but just in case it could be helpful, have you looked into behaviours said to 'reset' the immune system? I know, very vague. I was thinking specifically of fasting and cold water 'therapy'. A very strict low carb diet or fasting has anecdotal evidence for being helpful for some autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. Neither sounds very appealing to me but might be worth looking into.

Resilience are you recovered?
