I deleted that last post because it was a bit of a self indulgent rant and I realise that overall we are a well paid profession. 🙈

I think the ACM was a terrible way to treat teachers and students though and the 'bonus' definitely does not match the hours put in.

Lidlfix · 29/07/2021 11:48

I liked it. Fair representation of what many of us went through. I was a shite wife, absent mum, not able to support DPs etc during that entire summer term and I still feel sick when I think about what we were expected to do.

ElephantOfRisk · 29/07/2021 11:49

I didn't see the post but this is guilt free railing. Even if you are a well paid professional, you are still allowed to feel aggrieved. You can both recognise that you are in a privileged position and still feel annoyed at this slight I think.

riverrunning · 29/07/2021 12:14

Absolutely, everyone has different stresses and can rail even whilst accepting they're generally in an envious position on the whole.

I'm fed up this week - I've had two friends message for hopeful emergency childcare play dates and my kids haven't been sleeping well/a high stress week for our family and I just don't fancy it. But feel bad!

So I'm being responsible and ignoring the messages. Whilst half listening on work calls as usual!

ElephantOfRisk · 29/07/2021 12:17

Hopefully they will have sorted something before you finish work river.

If this last year has taught me anything, it's that it's nice to be nice but you also need to consider your own needs and stresses too.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 12:22

I think teachers are well entitled to rail @forfucksakenett! What a shambles it’s been for you guys. I can’t speak highly enough of our school and how they’ve managed.

@Scottishskifun isolations for the double jagged are stopping in England so hopefully we will follow.

I didn't see it @forfucksakenett but I'm pretty confident I'd have agreed.

Groovee · 29/07/2021 13:23

@WouldBeGood

Heartwarming support for teachers there!

Has anyone got their free laptop and bike yet..?

No! I got a snood and 3 face masks. I feel hard done by.
forfucksakenett · 29/07/2021 13:23

Thanks all. The fear of next academic year is starting to kick in now as well!

riverrunning · 29/07/2021 13:32

It's always at this point in the summer that I start to entertain crazy thoughts of more last minute holidays to seize a bit more joy - end July, on the downward slope to the new term, starting to think of uniform and shoes etc.

forfucksakenett · 29/07/2021 13:46

Totally. There's nothing like the magic of the first half of the summer holidays.

I'm mentally moving on to Christmas. Actually started my shopping. Also thinking about Halloween 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️🙈

riverrunning · 29/07/2021 13:51

The endless worry free possibilities of the early summer! My dd is at Halloween already, we've decided we're going all out for a Halloween party if we are allowed.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 14:04

@forfucksakenett I’m sad, as my boy used to love Halloween and we’d have a party and I’d take them all guising, but now he’s too big.

I must admit @WouldBeGood I'm not looking forward to those days. I'm sure their increasing age brings new joys though.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 14:28

It does, just different. I was feeling a bit nostalgic today anyway. Fortunately, we get on really well, long may it continue!

I am lucky to have DNs who still want to do fun stuff. Well fun stuff that does not involve cocktail trees and a budget the size of a small nation's GDP. Yesterday included being delighted to be upstairs on a double decker bus for the first time. Thankfully the front seat was free and we could have compare our experience to the Knight Bus in Harry Potter.

ElephantOfRisk · 29/07/2021 14:34

I also miss those days, sticky wee hands thrust into yours, hysterical laughing 'cos someone said poo, sweaty wee faces sleeping in buggies etc.

There are new joys though, chatting about stuff that is a bit more interesting than pokemon evolutions, going for a pint, watching a movie that you all can enjoy that is generally not animated, watching them learn to be adults and providing a different support from kissing it better and giving them an ice-pole.

If i'm honest, I think i like the teen years the best but I'd trade a weeks holiday to go back and snuggle with my little babies for an hour.

Icannever · 29/07/2021 14:37

Yep I’m feeling the sadness of being most of the way through the holidays too and was also looking at how getting away for at least a couple of nights and what days out we can still fit in.

I was also feeling sad about my kids growing up too fast and all the things I can’t do with them anymore. I’m also sad I won’t be able to do some things with my 11 year old before he turns 12 and it gets more expensive. Flights to Florida for example or interrailing in Europe (free fro under 12s). I mean I may well not have done those things anyway but I can’t see it even being a possibility now. Feel like a couple of years of their childhoods have been a bit stolen by covid ☹️☹️

Icannever · 29/07/2021 14:38

And yes I think teachers, esp in secondary school or head teachers at primary have been very hard done by. Our primary school head teacher seemed to be stuck in school half the summer holidays last year sorting everything out due to all the last minute changes

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 14:41

Oh, @lidlfix, so cute. Though I still get excited by the front of the top deck 😂

Me too @ElephantOfRisk, those proper baby days were so lovely. Obviously, he’s still lovely!

Yes, mine are still lovely as adults now but i don't think sniffing the back of their neck might be quite the same experience. Grin
WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 15:10

I’d have trouble reaching it 😆

OP posts:
riverrunning · 29/07/2021 19:00

my elder DD is very likely to end up taller - she's looking forward to the day!

ElephantOfRisk · 29/07/2021 19:07

I'm more or less 5'10. DH and DS2 are 6'2, DS1 is 6'3. I could more or less reach depending on what shoes I have on. I'm tall in the gen pop but small in my house.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 19:14

you are a tall family, @ElephantOfRisk!

I’m 5’7 and a half and DS pats me on the head 😂
