Hope you’re having a nice time @Groovee!

Glad you're enjoying your classes @WouldBeGood .

I could do with a little information from SG on back to school position and I know they're all frightfully busy, but I'm hoping they remembered that they sacked the exam board so need to tell teachers and students what the alternative is - preferably before the term starts. Or is that just pie in the sky thinking there?

forfucksakenett · 28/07/2021 22:23

@rookiemere the SQA have already confirmed the plans for next year pretty much. If your kids are sitting exams this year then they can expect a similar experience as the candidates last year (streamlined courses, ongoing assessment etc)

I'm hoping and praying for a final exam though. For a million different reasons. I have no idea if that will happen.

rookiemere · 28/07/2021 22:25

I must have missed that @forfucksakenett but good to know something is planned. I'd like DS to have exams as well ( but not of the - this is not an exam just a supervised test in a room that looks , smells and feels just like an exam without any study leave- type).

forfucksakenett · 28/07/2021 22:29

To be fair their website is the least user friendly thing on the planet. Almost impenetrable. Deffo a plan in place but as far as I know no final decision on a national exam. I think they need one. That was a joke this year .

Icannever · 28/07/2021 22:33

@Groovee. Think it was me that said to go to Carol’s for ice cream (but I think I said you should also have a waffle on a stick with chocolate sauce to go with the ice cream 😀) . Glad you enjoyed it.
We were in elie at the weekend and it was mobbed, hopefully quieter for you today

Haudyourwheesht · 29/07/2021 07:20

Fellow teachers, I got what I assume was my blood money bonus payment this morning for all the assessment, moderation, stress of May and June. Approx £260. I feel seen.

titsintiers · 29/07/2021 07:28

I don't even know what to say to that @Haudyourwheesht, teachers have had such a difficult time. That doesn't cut it at all.

rookiemere · 29/07/2021 07:50

Jeez @Haudyourwheesht considering that teachers effectively did the SQAs job for them, that's nothing.

Wow that's pretty shite for all that you guys had to do!

I suggest splitting it - half to be spent for a smash up session (if we have those in Scotland think baseball bat and China) followed by the other half in a spa trying to release the tension from it!

just don't donate it to the SNP for another musical coffee machine

riverrunning · 29/07/2021 08:21

Wonder what £260 works out to per hour of additional effort?

ElephantOfRisk · 29/07/2021 08:42

Is that payment just for high school teachers, or even just for those who had exam classes? Doesn't seem to be fair to me.

I forgot about the waffles. Had a lovely ice cream.

Groovee · 29/07/2021 08:55

When my Dd got the £500 for being a carer through the pandemic, she got £240 as the Scottish Government taxed it and took £260. If her employer had known it, they would have given them it in instalments.

mondaywine · 29/07/2021 08:55

It would just be good to have school guidance! We start back on the 16th and no idea what we are going back to. Yet again.

Groovee · 29/07/2021 08:57

We're back on the 16th. Bearing in mind we're not allowed in school at all since we closed on the 25th of June. No classes were allowed to move. You were to pack it into boxes and it will be moved when we return 🙄.

WouldBeGood · 29/07/2021 09:06

Heartwarming support for teachers there!

Has anyone got their free laptop and bike yet..?

Lidlfix · 29/07/2021 09:10

I don't expect my (significantly less than National Minimum Wage never mind what I would normally get for exam marking payment) until October. Don't know if it's a local authority decision as I haven't looked as it all still really sickens and angers me.

Not thinking about the 16th yet. But I am remaining in my classroom, have fallen victim of prepping for a timetable which changes too many times and need my last couple of weeks holidays too much to let work invade.

That's terrible Groovee. We've been in a few times and still have lots to do.

@ElephantOfRisk I believe it's only for those who worked with assessment classes or marking / moderation activities. But I could be wrong. I think to an extent it's down to schools / authorities to decide.
forfucksakenett · 29/07/2021 09:29

Yeah it's at HT's discretion for anyone who 'supported' in the delivery of the ACM.

It's an absolute joke.

fandabbydoozy · 29/07/2021 09:29

It seems the Chinese and Russian vaccines won't be accepted for the EU/USA quarantine exemptions.

So considering a lot of chinese students come to study here, e.g. at Glasgow, that will definitely have an impact on the universities.

Although the American students can still come (if double vacc'd)

Will the double vaccination stop outbreaks in halls, I wonder?

ElephantOfRisk · 29/07/2021 09:41

It is a joke. Many of those teachers might have also completed marking work for the sqa in a normal year and presumably earned more than that? So they've effectively done it for free. I'm not involved at all but seems to be more of an insult rather than a reward.

Scottishskifun · 29/07/2021 11:33

Yes currently given if double vaccinated it's Pfizer or moderna as its a 88% protection against even contracting the delta variant.

The real issue will be if the isolation rules for double vaccinated people in close contact do not change. E.g non vaccinated flat mate gets coronavirus and everyone in the flat has to isolate regardless!
