I didn't hate the St James Quarter - it's quite nice really and once they fix the leaking may be a good bad weather place to go. It needs a soft play area though!

Pootle40 · 26/07/2021 16:21

@WouldBeGood

So, apparently Humza said today that we are on track for most restrictions to be lifted on 9th August, but Our Leader is going to announce this on 3rd August, so a week tomorrow….

What’s the chances?!

Hope so. I didn't realise some of the nonsense that still existed until I looked into two things at the weekend.....still no water slides or wave pool at Dundee Olympia because of Covid restrictions 🤷🏻‍♀️ and still can't book clip and climb for my kids unless we book a family session. I have no idea why these restrictions still exist!
WouldBeGood · 26/07/2021 16:22

25,000 cases in England today as compared to 40,000 last Monday. As you say, @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us it’s looking good!

I am pushing back on mask wearing a bit. I didn't wear it once I was off the train at Edinburgh Waverley even though they say you need to wear it in the station. I also didn't wear it in st James quarter unless I went into a shop, as there is fresh air blowing in from both ends. Travelling by train to Lake District next Friday and don't intend to wear it on the train at all.

LizzieMacQueen · 26/07/2021 16:33

Hey, what happened to the thread about the kid skipping Nat 5s?

Was it me that killed it by asking about aspergers? Though I thought I'd asked nicely.

Groovee · 26/07/2021 16:37

Had a wander round. It wasn't too bad. We had lunch at Bonnie & Wild. Food was good.

Just chilling now before heading away tomorrow.

Lidlfix · 26/07/2021 16:55

Lizzie I have never had such a visceral reaction to a poster and their style. It "went poof" just after as a poster from the OP's other thread gave a heads up re the (rather disturbing) road it was taking. So not your, perfectly polite, question

Still don't know how to hide a thread using the app so lurked and enjoyed Scotsnet's finest. Chapeau Folks.

riverrunning · 26/07/2021 17:21

That thread was mad, im not surprised

LizzieMacQueen · 26/07/2021 17:51

Ah thanks @Lidlfix

The Nat5 poster was a bit weird. No wonder he was divorced.

I've just bought a bigger paddling pool. Kids are much safer in the garden than faffing around in rivers etc, scary number of kids this weekend 11, 13 & 16 plus the family in Loch Lomond. There was another 13 yo in the Clyde a couple of weeks ago too. Heartbreaking!

A bit of me wonders if the struggle to access swimming pools just isn't helping.

WouldBeGood · 26/07/2021 18:05

I agree @Lockdownbear. It might not have saved them, but it’s just shocking that kids still are issuing lessons and pool access. Much much more dangerous than Covid.

OP posts:
riverrunning · 26/07/2021 18:44

Biggest paddling pool feasible is a good idea - pool slot availability, heat, wild swimming being trendy again - perfect factors. People often lack local knowledge of what's dangerous when they are doing uk holidays.

I was shocked about loch lohmond - I think of it as touristy and safe and these sad deaths show how wrong that is.

riverrunning · 26/07/2021 18:45

Oh yes and being way behind on swimming lessons won't be helping either

Mantlemoose · 26/07/2021 20:22

Try living in Clackmannanshire - no public pools at all! The two nearest private ones you can't get booked for love nor money ;(

shouldistop · 26/07/2021 21:23

Has anyone been to the national museum in Edinburgh recently? Is it worth a trip through from Glasgow for almost 5yo ds? Are they enforcing mask wearing? The website says anyone over 5 has to wear one.

Railing against the bastard wasp that stung me earlier, bloody sore.

shouldistop · 26/07/2021 21:38

Wtf? So we won't be unlocked if the over 40s don't get jagged?

They need to be making it easier to reschedule appointments, have early ams late opening times and weekends. And walk in appointments in each area.

Round here it’s pot lick for walk in places. Last week the nearest to me were 20 and 30 miles away. No weekends and the appointments times were from 9.30-5.30pm so absolutely useless

WouldBeGood · 26/07/2021 22:15

We told them months ago to make long hours vaccine clinics 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 26/07/2021 22:30

Lanarkshire have been doing drop in clinics.

However there does hit a point where they cannot expect the vaccinated to stay locked up for those who couldn't be bothered.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 26/07/2021 23:33

According to the dashboard 76.6% of that age group is fully vaccinated, just over 90% have had one dose.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 27/07/2021 00:17

I'm becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the blatant coercion to try and get people to take vaccines. All the talk of vaccine passports being required to enter anything from a night clubs to a football match, or even to attend university, and now the suggestion that society may be held hostage until enough people comply. Let's not forget that the vaccines, which I've personally had BTW, do confer risks, and that these may well be en par with the risks from COVID for young adults. When did we become such an illiberal society, and why, when COVID is less dangerous than ever, are so many on board with this?!

shouldistop · 27/07/2021 07:27

@IncludeWomenInThePrequel do you think a lot of that age group had AZ as their first vaccination then decided they didn't want it again with all the bad press?

Groovee · 27/07/2021 07:39

Not been since Covid but it was always a favourite of my 2 when younger. Have seen people turned away for not booking when I have gone past.
riverrunning · 27/07/2021 08:06

I was at the national museum this weekend - they've got a confusing one way system in place, mandatory masks and all touch displays and children's area closed off.

The Galloway hoard exhibition is wonderful, although of course no interactive displays.

My dd still enjoyed it though - museums now are like the museums of the 70s and 80s, without any interactivity but can still look at things in cases.
