Haha! That’s an impressive memory he has @shouldistop!

I really hope I find a job soon. I need to pay the bills!

WouldBeGood · 24/07/2021 20:32

The non mask shaming is there @IncludeWomenInThePrequel

Zoo was amazing and Ds got his first pint in the pub before. I didn't factor in the walking and Mr G is a bit deid now. His strength and stamina still haven't been built back up. But sitting on the grass listening to live music with a a wee drink of water really was lovely. Definitely worth a visit. We went right up to the Giraffes and worked our way back down. We all said it was a lovely night.

Mr G is struggling at how much things tire him. Working from home is going ok. But he missed being out on the road and tools. But he's so much better and on the mend. Hoping the last dressing comes off this week. And his wound is now very much a scar. Thanks for asking.

Neil Oliver made some good points especially towards the end, I often find people use a lot of moralising language in political discourse, especially around the nhs, whereas morality is an individual matter, there are good and bad teachers, good and bad bankers, good and bad nurses. Good and bad incentives in contracts.

You can think a company or institution is a good thing without believing in a new church.

Sorry if this has been mentioned and I've missed it. I'm absolutely not willing to test my child if he doesn't have symptoms.

Scottishskifun · 25/07/2021 07:48

@shouldistop they had to clarify it already as they can't enforce it at all! So although they "strongly recommend" it's not mandatory.

But the language around it I think is done deliberately to almost mislead into thinking its mandatory which is a bit cheeky!

We arrived in Whitby yesterday and visited a supermarket and The Magpie Cafe ( amazing). It was very strange not having to wear a mask - the restaurant had a sign saying you needed to but DS hadn't brought his and there were no comments about it. Oh and we went to a couple of arcades as well and it was about 60/40 mask wearing.

I put mine on when inside - not entirely sure why as it could do with a wash so probably not offering me - or anyone else - much protection from any germs.

Other than that though the place is heaving and there is a steam punk convention on so lots of colourful characters. I do so hope this is it now and no more lockdown - can cope with some restrictions in Winter if absolutely necessary- but it's so nice to see normal life again.

The whole pandemic has made me prefer being in England rather than Scotland- DH has always been that way - not sure why maybe because feel less nannied, and that feeling of always being behind England in lockdown lifting.

rookiemere · 25/07/2021 08:20

Hope the after hours zoo was good @Groovee - been meaning to go for ages.

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 08:37

Sounds great, @rookiemere! Glad you’re having a good time.

I cannot wait for the demise of masks. (Usual caveat that I’m not slagging others who want to wear them).

@shouldistop and @Scottishskifun phew! I’m not testing DS in those circumstances.

Aw Whitby @rookiemere memories of visits to my aunt there. As a young child, I was always scared of the Dracula connection as she lived in an old house🤣 Must go back with my own DC.

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 09:10

I’ve never been to Whitby. Maybe need a trip!

OP posts:
Groovee · 25/07/2021 13:35

I must be the only person to go to Whitby and feel blah about it. We usually stay in Beverley as we have friends there.

Scottishskifun · 25/07/2021 15:12

@rookiemere we have found the same thing to visits to England. I don't know what it is maybe it's that other people don't care what others get up to, or it's the just have to get on with it but it definitely feels more relaxed on visits and that's since May we have been going.

We have a English wedding in a few weeks can't wait as it will be normal with dancing and mingling allowed compared to here where if it's not a proper wedding venue your limit is still 15 people at the moment and even if it is a proper wedding venue dancing other then the couple and parents is banned 🙄

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 25/07/2021 15:13

Totally of topic but am I right in thinking a few of you are members of David Lloyd? We took the kids today for a bit and it was fab. It is pricey but I'm wondering what you lot think? Is it worth the money?

I am sick of the bullshit with the local leisure centre and beyond bored with the kids so feeling like we would spend a lot of time up there

shouldistop · 25/07/2021 15:17

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 we're members at david Lloyd. We really like it, definitely worth joining. If you can pay upfront for the year then you should get a discount.
We spent 4 hours there this morning.

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 15:28

If it’s like the Nuffield there might also be discounts depending on your employer too, worth checking!

Brilliant thank you. It was really impressive in fairness. I felt like a bit of a fraud 😂 the ghd straighteners in the locker room felt a bit extra but I loved it. We are getting a fairly decent deal as have a friend who works there but it's a year contract so that's what's holding me back. Do you guys use it as much in winter?

shouldistop · 25/07/2021 15:52

@IncludeWomenInThePrequel we only joined in the spring but I imagine we'll use it more in the winter tbh. It has softplay, a cinema, crèche, kids sports classes etc. Great way to keep them entertained in the winter x

rookiemere · 25/07/2021 16:49

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 I joined recently but not with DS just me. I love the outdoor pool so it's worth it for that alone. I did get a slight employee discount through my company but I didn't think there was much budging on the price.

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 16:50

Popping on with a rail against my neighbours. They gave twelve year old boys who splash and shriek in their giant paddling pool like bigger and louder toddlers, and it’s doing my head in. Surely this isn’t normal?

OP posts:
titsintiers · 25/07/2021 17:11

I don't even know what normal is anymore @WouldBeGood

riverrunning · 25/07/2021 17:14

I've been plagued by photos of dogs in paddling pools in Twitter - it looks like such fun but how do they not puncture them?

Neighbour noise is the downside of good weather!

One of my dds does a lot of fairly tuneless, loud and heartfelt singing of frozen songs (poor girl has my voice), that must be nice for the neighbours!

Scottishskifun · 25/07/2021 17:53

😂 DS is 2 and doesn't shriek in the paddling pool just giggles more like his dad or I to shriek as he pours the cold water on us!
IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 25/07/2021 18:17

It's annoying but I also like it when older kids regress to being wee, just for a little while.

WouldBeGood · 25/07/2021 18:22

It’s not for a while @IncludeWomenInThePrequel. it’s just fucking annoying. It’s like spring break 😂

The sound of kids playing is nice, there’s wee ones behind me that are lovely and they make me smile with the sheer joy in life.
