Ooh grovee let me know how the zoo after hours is, I saw it and thought it was a nice idea.

Sorry about the job running that's lousy

YeDancer · 24/07/2021 15:39

SG better sort out the vaccination issue quickly because there's a lot of students arriving in Scotland in the next few weeks who are either jagged abroad (or not jagged at all).
If double jagged students catch covid from being forced to quarantine with non-jagged students (cause double jagged doesn't mean 100% protection), then there will likely be anger.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 24/07/2021 15:43

It wouldn't be proven that they caught it from an oncoming student though. Not sure I like the sound of blaming foreign students much.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/07/2021 16:23

Neither of mine are likely to be double jagged before the semester starts, but then neither have stepped a foot in Uni since March 2020. One DS lives at home and the other in a private flat now. I'm just sick of people dividing society into the "good" i.e. those that clap for the NHS, have the app, wear masks all the time and are double jabbed, and those "bad" folk who are happy to take reasonable steps but retain some autonomy over their lives.

Is this where we have got to?

@elephantofrisk I don't like how young people have got the blame a lot of the time full stop! I mean remember the don't kill your granny rhetoric?!

I think it would be wise if students got jabs freshers flu goes around like mad so covid will as well but it's personal choice at the end of the day!

runningpink · 24/07/2021 16:47

@rookiemere that sounds like brilliant fun! Enjoy your time away and hope the hangover is ok

@shouldistop I would also stagger the gifts and even pop a few away after he has unwrapped and bring out later in year when weather is bad, or feeling unwell type thing if you can get away with that saves him being overwhelmed.

I have forgotten who but I think a few of you had parents who tested positive. How are they all doing now?

Thanks folks. Actually really positive feedback and they asked if they could contact me in the future if their circumstances changed.

Was more that I couldn’t do the days they required in the end. The ladies work was flexible but the one day she had to be in I can’t do so ultimately cane down to that.

Wasn’t meant to be I guess but I do need to find a job to pay the billls!

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 24/07/2021 16:52

Fuck me Neil Oliver gets more airtime than I can believe.

Speaking for five minutes about the 'grief' he feels (which mainly seems to be about wearing a mask in enclosed spaces) without acknowledging that more than, what, 130,000 people have died.

That GB news channel really is a poor man's Fox News.

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 16:53

@runningpink what a shame you didn't get the job Sad Hopefully something will come up soon.

Defo wouldn't be able to get away with keeping any til later in the year, he remembers everything. He still remembers who gave him what toys from his 4th birthday last year!

Both DSs have had their first but only in the last couple of weeks as per their appointment. Mainly because they want to be able to go abroad at some point and also just to be "good" citizens.

I agree re the blame they get and whole screeds of them have not been able to have any of the rights of passage that we had. No going out on their 18th/21sts with a bunch of pals, hitting the clubs, lack of cinema dates, just generally not been able to move to adulthood without a lot of carefree enjoyment. Heck my 21 year old was chuffed last week because he went to the pub with a few friends, were allowed to stay more than two hours AND he got chips at McDs before I picked him up - he was actually out at the pub until after 11.30! That should be a normal night not something that actually is deemed as mega exciting.

DS who moved away to uni (2019) got freshers flu and strep throat/quincy within the first couple of months - germs circulate but I don't think there should be further limits put on them. There is more to life than Covid for this group where the harms of lockdown etc are worse than catching it for the vast vast majority. Part of learning to be an adult is learning to risk assess for yourself.

Yes, lets just shame more people for wanting to live a normal life and have DC live with the freedoms that we enjoyed. It's not going to bring people back is it or shall we all just wear a cloak of chains until someone decides we've mourned enough?
ElephantOfRisk · 24/07/2021 16:58

And next you'll be telling us that the BBC is a reliable independent source of news and information....

I completely agree with Neil Oliver.
IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 24/07/2021 17:26

Agree with him all you want 🤷🏻‍♀️

I personally can't imagine going on tv - let's be honest, being paid to go on tv - during a pandemic to 'mourn' the existence of pieces of cloth.

If I was doing that, I really think I'd stop and ask myself 'hang on, is it...is it possible in an insensitive fucking wanker?'

Scottishskifun · 24/07/2021 17:47

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel I don't like him but I don't agree with rolling out the stat of deaths whenever their is the mention of people trying to get back to normality. Partly because it's still unknown in some cases if these are direct deaths something the Statistics authority raised as a significant issue which England has changed in reporting but Scotland hasn't.

Every death is sad of course it is but as said many many times this virus is not going anywhere ever. The ship sailed 18 months ago for any attempt of a zero level strategy and doubtful would of worked here due to reliance on haulage for food from Europe.

I really don't know what people expect anymore. As daunting the prospect is of getting back to normality as we have been conditioned for the last 18 months seriously what is the choice?! Continue with restrictions for 5-10 years until people's immune systems adapt?! That's just not feasible and would destroy more lives then it would save.

I get that it's daunting and people need to decide what personal risk they are comfortable with but I'm sorry you are going to have to live with this virus. That's a reality of life.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/07/2021 17:47

Well just as well we're not all you then. What about mourning all the people who have died, had their mental health, physical health, livelihoods etc because of the restrictions? Are they not worth anything? There's no balance.

Scottishskifun · 24/07/2021 17:49

Oh and bloody obviously I don't want anyone to get Longcovid before I get wrongly accused of that one again. But I am a realist and know it's not disappearing from the world at any point. It will always rubble on sometimes in low levels sometimes in larger outbreaks.

Part of learning to live with it is also setting up sufficient treatment options for those of us who do end up with long covid!

ElephantOfRisk · 24/07/2021 17:56

Agree ski. If folk want to continue to wear masks and restrict themselves then no one is stopping them from doing so. While in the car today I passed a couple, walking up an empty road on a beautiful summer morning, both wearing masks. Just seems so sad but their choice.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 24/07/2021 18:01

I really have no strong feelings about masks either way to be honest. Genuinely don't.

Doesn't make Neil Oliver not a prick though. Anyone using 'grief' language in a pandemic that isn't related to humans is a prick.

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 24/07/2021 18:08

But equally nobody is stopping anyone ditching masks. I know we're all technically still wearing them indoors but plenty of people have stopped.

I don't know where this sense of persecution of non-mask wearers has come from.

ElephantOfRisk · 24/07/2021 18:11

Yeah there are loads of pricks about.... Hmm

You just don't get it do you? Never mind.

And yes, we are all at liberty to not wear masks right enough, meanwhile in the real world...

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 24/07/2021 18:13

In the real world about a quarter of people in my local Tesco are not wearing masks.

So what is it I'm not quite bright enough to understand?

Scottishskifun · 24/07/2021 18:19

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel God I get stares and the occasional comment if I don't wear one even with a landyard on. I suppose it depends on where you are I live in a small town and by god you get the mask police if they think you're breaking it!

Maybe it's not as bad in cities or large shops 🤷‍♂️ but I've definitely had unpleasantness. There was a great shop in Ullapool whilst we were away though which said masks if you can but we are not going to ask or judge if not which I thought was lovely! My shops all have signs on the doors saying no mask no entry on them!

Good for them I say. It may be me soon
