@WouldBeGood Grin

Ok two votes for stagger, that's what I thought tbh. That means he'll probably have a present to open every day this week which he will love.

It also means we can get started on the thank you cards straight away which is always some effort. Ds1 doesn't particularly like drawing and writing and struggles to hold a pencil properly so for practice I get him to do his own cards, decorating and writing his name. He'll only do it for 10 minutes at a time but knows it's important to say thank you so doesn't completely refuse at least!
Yes - I agree. I'm generally very anal fussy about not opening before the actual event - but he's only 5, and as you say, it could be overwhelming otherwise! I'm afraid, we still have "issues" on the thank you cards... Grin. We have reached an agreement that DS is happy to write on postcards, but not actual cards, so we just do that. I think it seems less daunting to him, which is fair enough...

I don't imagine the self isolation orders are going to be helped by the whole 'if you're a lorry driver, etc and get pinged you don't have to isolate, if you're an accountant you do' notion. Covid is either such an issue that you have to isolate, or it's not.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/07/2021 20:07

On the jags in separate countries, I didn't need to do it in the end, but at one point it was looking like I would have to get my 2nd in England. NHS Lothian told me they would be able to update my vaccine record as long as I got the vaccine card with the details on it. I'm glad I didn't need to though, I wasn't convinced!

Yes. It's getting us back to the whole worthy, important, key worker jobs vs pointless private sector desk jockey jobs thing. Which is a distinction I thought we'd managed to get rid of, once the schools went back for all. Nice that Scotland is only allowing it if the workers voluntarily agree not to self isolate though. 'Cos I can see employers definitely being fine with workers deciding that they'd prefer a couple of weeks off "isolating" instead of going to work!
StarryEyeSurprise · 23/07/2021 21:33

Well I did wonder - if I was a teacher in England, what happens if a child in my is a close contact of a positive case? Do they still come into my class each day until they test positive themselves? Would I even be told that they're a close contact of a covid positive person? People are obviously most infectious before they test positive - am I missing something?

The close contact stays off school til they have taken and got a negative result on a PCR test. The school is still contacted by track and trace if the positive case is a pupil. But generally by the time one person has a positive test and symptoms close contacts are usually within the 3-5 day development stage which is the majority of cases so the PCR of contacts will pick it up.

We have had 4 isolations with DS only one of them he was positive for but that equates to over 5 weeks that he's had to been kept out of nursery when he wasn't ill (first was the 2 week before it dropped to 10 days).

It's not manageable for school children to be missing that much education given schools argue that even 1 week of a parent taking their child out disrupts their learning!

It doesn’t matter when teachers are vaccinated

Sore head this morning Confused. Out last night in Edinburgh with two work pals - it was glorious like old times. We sat outside for - a lot of - drinks but when I went in to use the loos, the place was full. Hen parties, stag parties and zero distancing. So wonderful to see all the young people being able to be young people again.

Then took very drunk friend to station where all trains delay/cancelled due to electrical storm. Station was rammed, we were propping up friend to pour her onto train, all sorts of dramas when she phoned her DM rather than her DP, haven't had as much fun for ages.

It felt positively bacchanalian , gawd I hope we don't get locked down again.

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 08:21

@rookiemere that sounds like fun Grin

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 08:24

I've got a night out in a couple of weeks, I've ordered a new dress and a bra that isn't a nursing bra Grin might even get my make up done.

rookiemere · 24/07/2021 08:25

Oh it was fantastic @shouldistop then drunk friend lost her mask so I gave her a slightly used cloth one, which every 5 minutes or so she'd look at confused and go "That's not my mask"
Neither of them better have covid - we're off to Whitby today .

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 08:28

GrinGrin brilliant

Scottishskifun · 24/07/2021 08:54

Hope the hangover isn't too bad @rookiemere sounds like a great night 😊

It's great to hear young people enjoying themselves I do feel like they have had a particularly rough time of it all and often get the blame for things which is bonkers when you're talking about a virus!

mibbelucieachwell · 24/07/2021 08:54

Grinat your night out rookie - sounds great. Have a great time n Whitby.

youcannot I couldn't agree more about the duplication of processes for dealing with covid throughout uk. With almost no difference in outcome. I've never heard a journalist ask the leaders of the devolved parliaments how they can possibly justify this waste of effort and money.

Groovee · 24/07/2021 09:16

I've booked the Edinburgh Zoo after hours event for tonight. First time of doing something a bit normal.

ResilienceWanker · 24/07/2021 09:33

Glad you had a good night rookie! Sounds like fun. I haven't had a drunk friend to muster for soooooo long SadGrin I heard about the train chaos on the news. I think it was only between Waverley and Haymarket, but seemed to take out most transport in the central belt!

And yay for shouldistop's non-easy-access bra Grin

The cross border vaccine thing is crazy. It's stuff like that that made me Hmm over brexit at the time (we have the shared systems already... Why spend £££££ making our own that won't be as good and won't talk to the other systems) and even more scexit. Maybe this is a trial run and the fact both Scotland and the UK are bodging it up (presumably for different reasons) is really advanced level political point scoring. Mind you, a friend living in Scotland had both of his vaccines done in Poland (long story) and he can't get registered as being even single jagged in Scotland, so has had to quarantine etc on returning from Poland even though he shouldn't have to. So that international cooperation on vaccines is working well too...

I am way behind on this thread. Away to catch up now.

In the meantime thought I would update to say I found out yesterday that I didn’t get that job I went for the other week. Gutted!

IncludeWomenInThePrequel · 24/07/2021 09:55

Ah that's a shame, sorry to hear that @runningpink

ResilienceWanker · 24/07/2021 10:07

Aw no. Sorry to hear that runningpink Sad Have they given feedback?

Lockdownbear · 24/07/2021 11:18

Runningpink sorry to hear that. Better luck next time. Did they give any feedback that is useful?

WouldBeGood · 24/07/2021 11:51
