Thick as mince.

@WouldBeGood 😂 thats rich coming from you who has had plenty to say over these last months about who does or doesn't deserve a bit of protection. What it boiled down to, and correct me if I'm wrong, was that nobody deserves any protection / you want the restrictions removed because you don't enjoy booking slots for cocktails?

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 21:53

Yep, that’s all I want 🙄

How long do we need to carry on as if covid is the only game in town? I really get how people are scared and if I had a vulnerable child or relative, I'm sure I'd want to do everything possible to protect them. It's not that simple though, by choosing to protect one group you are are the same time causing many harms to other groups. There needs to be a balance here and some proper information on what is happening outwith covid to ensure that people are being treated for other conditions, that screening for illnesses gets back up to speed, that the economy gets some priority because frankly, if there isn't money for services, then the vulnerable are still going to be at the back of the queue.

I'm just railing and fed up that everything except covid is just ignored and also fed up that this far down the line we still aren't measuring and collecting proper data and it's still being used to frighten and manipulate people.

Scottishskifun · 20/07/2021 21:55

@forfucksakenett

Yes I'm aware. Which makes it utterly bizarre, in my opinion, that she has absolutely no desire to protect others from catching it.

You also want all restrictions gone and have many a time said that you don't really care about folk catching long covid so I'm not sure why you're so faux horrified just now Hmm

Please point out any post where I have said that I don't care about people catching long covid?!

I have said that this virus isn't going anywhere, which it's not, that it cannot be treated like measles due to high mutation element it has.
I have said we need to learn to live with it (which we do) and I have said that removing the legal aspects makes the economy function and gives people personal responsibility. I have stated that cases are high in Scotland because of lack of immunity from previous waves which again is true and that raises the questions of have lockdowns been worth it given it then spread like wildfire.

I have never said that I don't give a crap about protecting people or long covid! I now cannot wear a mask due to breathlessness but that's a separate issue.

I don't know why you feel the need to continously make jibes towards me but as said if you don't like my posts just don't read them it's not exactly hard!

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 21:56

You might also like to remember my CPTSD and my DP’s chronic and life limiting illness, and my son’s depression, but yeah, I am annoyed about the cocktails

It is very clear that @Scottishskifun has suffered. I have sympathy for her and others in her situation. Why then would we not try to stop that happening to others?

It's always presented by her as if England is curing long covid when that is clearly not the case. Yes they have clinics but measuring the success of them is hugely problematic.

Why is it okay to want people to catch long covid by removing the restrictions but it's not okay to want to protect them by keeping them? What weird twisted logic is this?

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 21:58

Because, as @Scottishskifun says, Covid is here and needs managed but these restrictions are nit the answer.

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 21:59

*not, before the spelling police get me

forfucksakenett · 20/07/2021 21:59

@Scottishskifun I was retaliating to a jibe you made to me actually but hey ho.

Tomorrowisanewday · 20/07/2021 21:59

WouldBeGood - I'm not sure that it's being childless, although I think the unempathetic reference is valid. I don't have children, but I have very close relationships with nieces and nephews, and with friends' children, and I really think they have been thrown under a bus for the last 18 months. NS talks about children and young people being a priority, but I don't see that in her and her government's actions.

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 22:01

Yes @Tomorrowisanewday, I know that lots of people could see that without having their own children. I’m not sure Devi and Ns are in that category!

OP posts:
Scottishskifun · 20/07/2021 22:06

I have said English hospital based long covid clinics have success, lots of data and research because they have with many. I'm in long covid support groups who provide details and things that NHS treatment is providing. The physio led ones not so much. But something is better then zero that you get here!

I do believe in lifting restrictions because I also see the effects that they have on people's mental health, treatment services, friends waiting for operations etc etc. I wouldn't wish anyone to end up with long covid hence why I point out information I know in further detail about covid ventilation risk (and have for months), what masks offer better protection and ways of reducing personal chances.

shouldistop · 20/07/2021 22:08

Urgh I'm going to bed, see you all in the morning when you've all calmed doon Grin

Grellbunt · 20/07/2021 22:10

Ventilation and FFP2 masks minimum for the public are important but more or less ignored in the UK. See also: upgrading hospital staff to decent PPE (better than FFP2).

It's frustrating

Tomorrowisanewday · 20/07/2021 22:12

I think they're definitely not in that category!! Even young adults are missing out. One of my staff had his graduation last week. On a TV screen. With no Graduation Ball. I know it's not about the ceremonies, and he's been very stoic about it, but he and his classmates have worked so hard for 4 years, and they're all missing out on the fun parts that they should have had together at the end, before they went on to the next stage of their lives.

Grellbunt · 20/07/2021 22:13

Oh, and making sure those who have Actually Tested Positive do actually isolate properly.

Fix that and the rest of us could move around a lot more freely. Lots is just hygiene theatre and it's irrelevant if confirmed cases can't afford or be arsed to isolate.

Agh rant rant rant.

WouldBeGood · 20/07/2021 22:14

That’s just so sad @Tomorrowisanewday. Those are life’s milestones
@Lockdownbear if you're an arm chair scientist / know it all then yes I'm having a dig at you. If not, then no I'm not.

Spelling is not a sign of intelligence but if Scotsnet has taught me anything then you don't need a good reason to be a snidey bastard about folk. See just about every comment on this thread about Nicola Sturgeon as examples.

And while it's not a sign of intelligence it does grate a bit the constant misspellings of your/ you're and there/ their/ they're from people getting all judgemental on their high horse.
Well in that case you and I will just have to ignore each other.

forfucksakenett · 20/07/2021 22:31

@Lockdownbear 👍🏻

TheGenealogist · 20/07/2021 22:36

But it's the fake " I know how hard this is" that she's been spouting all through. No you don't queen Nicola because you have not been dealing with homeschooling and stressed teens over exams (which weren't exams). You've been carrying on exactly as normal, daily trips along the M8 to work, seeing your friends and colleagues every day. Not wearing masks.

The whole "I know what it's like" is just bollocks

Lockdownbear · 20/07/2021 22:38
@forfucksakenett 😂 didn't realise you were the grammar and spelling police!

Suggest if you don't like my spelling mistakes then don't read my posts! As someone with dyslexia I do pretty well with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in science! It also hasn't prevented me publishing and being co-authors on research papers either 😉
Go you! Ski Smile

I've only got an BSc with Hons, and that was without any dyslexia help.Grin I was useless at school though.

forfucksakenett · 20/07/2021 22:38

@TheGenealogist so because her version of hard is different to your version of hard it's less valid?

TheGenealogist · 20/07/2021 22:41

When you are trying to speak directly to parents at home, homeschooling kids, then yes, it rings very hollow when you have no children of your own and are carrying on going to work and seeing your pals just like you've always done.

One might even say it's a lie.

forfucksakenett · 20/07/2021 22:48

People are capable of empathy. I didn't homeschool exam age children but I can imagine what it's like. I can see that it would be difficult and potentially turbulent and upsetting. What would you rather she had said? Did you want her to acknowledge her position as a childless woman? Did you want her to not try and put herself in the situation of homeschooling mothers?
