@WouldBeGood

*note my classy review there. They’ll probably want to use that to advertise
Grin It'll be there, in big letters on their signs next time I pass, I'm sure! Glad it was good, even though the rest of the trip sounds a bit pants. I've never eaten there either (I'd assumed it would be wanky, you see, but now I know it's not!) - so may have to persuade DH.
rookiemere · 18/07/2021 19:58

Ooh I've just checked and they have steak tartare which I'm long overdue not having had my ski trip for the last two years.

WouldBeGood · 18/07/2021 19:58

It was very relaxing @ResilienceWanker. Though pleasingly swanky. But no pine needles, hay or foams.just proper good ingredients cooked amazingly. And the bread 😍

Oh, I am a BIG fan of bread Smile. The menu looks lush. It is definitely on my hint-list.

WouldBeGood · 18/07/2021 20:10

DP doesn’t do fish (weirdo) so asked for fish free, and they made him some delicious alternatives. He does eat shellfish 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh @rookiemere that's so sad and actually makes me quite angry
What have we done to people Confused
You have to wonder what we are keeping people in their 80s safe for? So they can spend their last years stuck at home seeing no-one which just makes them deteriorate mentally and physically so much quicker
Can you keep them away from the news and the papers which will be feeding your mums anxiety ?

Lidlfix · 18/07/2021 20:45

Glad you enjoyed it Wouldbe we've had the tasting menu with paired wines and the a la carte and both have been amazing. Did I read last week that you were disappointed in HouseofGods?

WouldBeGood · 18/07/2021 20:48

Oh, I was so disappointed- I felt it claustrophobic, dark and emperor’s new clothes. There was no window n the room, and the bed was built in so I couldn’t get out without waking DP. One person had to sit on the bed so the other coujd get ready. I thought it was going to be like the gorgeous Paris hotel we stayed in but it was far from it.

@latissimusdorsi I suspect that DMs anxiety is way beyond covid now. I think the true root cause is that she has realised that DF is likely to pass away before she does and she's terrified of that happening, so in her mind is doing everything she can to keep DF safe.

It's such a rubbish situation it really is, I'm just pinning my hopes that numbers go down enough for DM to allow him a bit more freedom. But I do think in the shorter term the idea of driving them to a different short walk is a great one as gets her out of her comfort zone but in a gradual way.

Groovee · 19/07/2021 08:47

@rookiemere my dad really struggled last year to understand Covid as he had to shield. It caused a lot of problems. My mum was doing my head in as she likes to shop so would have me drive her to every open shop.

Thanks for the advice on shorts. I have a huge strawberry birth mark on my leg that I like to cover up and the only pair I found long enough and in my size were leather! Mr G found it very funny 🤬

GoldenOmber · 19/07/2021 10:53

@riverrunning

My experience of parents on both sides in their early 70s is that they're even more anxious and poorly mentally this year than last. DM is willing to do even less. I can understand feeling angry, mortality is a hard concept to reconcile at any age.
Same here Sad One I'm really quite worried about, seems both physically and mentally so much frailer over the past 16 months. Won't resume anything close to previous activities, hobbies, social life etc. because "it's too much of a worry now", and that's not even covid-specific worries it's just general worrying.

I don't even know how much to push it really. Can't be good to have close to zero physical activity from someone who was previously off on hiking holidays every year. Have tried to encourage resuming another activity they used to love which is now back on, but no because "I haven't done the drive for a while and I'd worry" (it is 5 minutes on a very familiar route).

riverrunning · 19/07/2021 11:29

Grim isn't it golden small nudges seem to be the way forward, my DM has convinced herself that the vaccine won't protect her so talking does no good.

The advertising campaigns are all fear to control you based. There's no 'it's now safe to...' positive stuff.

shouldistop · 19/07/2021 12:41

Both dh and I are now double jagged. Hoping I don't feel as rough after my second as I did after my first.

Bytheloch · 19/07/2021 12:42

I’m here for the bread chat. Chat carbs not Covid.

Longing to hear/see some positive campaigns or media that actively supports those now living in fear. Instead, @riverrunning is right, there’s no positive messaging. Works both ways- nothing, here in Scotland, to support those who ARE ready to get out and about to save their mental health- no ‘freedom’ day (bs name for it anyway) for us, instead just made to feel like you’re selfish🤷‍♀️

Pootle40 · 19/07/2021 13:57

Just wanted to pop on and say I survived (and would do it all again) an 11 day trip to Majorca. Was lovely to hear the jet2 lady say at check in 'have a great holiday'.

ElephantOfRisk · 19/07/2021 14:01

That's good @Pootle40. I've never been to Majorca but I;m a big Menorca fan. Would love to be there now.

We can't have any holiday abroad while there is still a need or a risk of having to isolate afterwards. DH can't take more than a fortnight off at a time and has to attend work in person.

Bytheloch · 19/07/2021 15:16

Aw @Pootle40 that sounds brilliant.
How very 2019 of youGrin

titsintiers · 19/07/2021 15:28

Amazing @Pootle40, what did you have to do in the way of tests etc?

Pootle40 · 19/07/2021 15:30

I was tested before we left the uk as only DH was double vaxxed. I am now since return double vaxxed. Had it done as Glasgow airport - super efficient, fast results. Had antigen in resort before we left Majorca. Easy to do, cheap and results in 15 mins. Had day 2 tests by post on return. Results next day.

titsintiers · 19/07/2021 15:38

Well that's made me feel a bit more optimistic about our trip to the Canaries in October, we're both double vaxxed now anyway. Who knows what stage of the shitshow we'll be in at that point though.

riverrunning · 19/07/2021 15:44

New suitcase arrived for ours in two weeks, really hope we get to use it!

rookiemere · 19/07/2021 16:07

@titsintiers really hoping we get to Tenerife in October, for some reason because we know Tenerife well and have been quite a few times, the idea of the testing and so forth doesn't seem quite as daunting.

Plus I'd like to think things would have either got definitively better or worse by then. Obviously hoping better but sadly as peak for this wave expected early Sep think it will still be rumbling on with the Green but not really messages.

latissimusdorsi · 19/07/2021 16:59

That sounds lovely @Pootle40 Were you on package or just flights and had own accommodation? Do you know what the arrangements were for people who test positive over there and can't get on plane home? This is what worries me and I heard a travel agent on tv last week saying they hadn't sorted how that would work yet which wasn't very reassuring
WouldBeGood · 19/07/2021 17:03

Glad you had a good time @Pootle40!

I’m thinking of going somewhere nice and hoping to be forbidden from returning 🤣
