A wee reminder that registration for the Covid vaccine for 18-29 year olds closes at the end of this week (Friday 4th June) Smile

dancemom · 31/05/2021 14:08

• 490 new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 12,353 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
â—¦ 4.2% of these were positive
• 1 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are now generally closed at weekends)
• 8 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 110 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 3,251,138 people have received the first dose of the covid vaccination and 2,044,253 have received their second dose

Is 4.2% positive a typo? That's a big jump, or is it just the weekend effect?

Scottishskifun · 31/05/2021 14:37

Weekends typically see a increase in positivity rate as less tests undertaken and generally its best to look at the weekly positivity rate rather than a daily one.

Did anyone see the tweet from NS?

Referencing a Guardian article

"V good piece by @devisridhar on how vaccines open a path from the elimination approach advocated by many in earlier phase, to an ability to manage Covid differently and less restrictively. It’s a transition as we complete vaccination, but this is the path I hope Scotland is on."

Advocated by many?? 🤔

"Advocated by many?? 🤔"

Tbh I always thought it kind of a minority opinion amongst epidemiologists. But then the SG and its advisors seem to be in a bit of an echo chamber, so it might well have been the approach she heard most often.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 31/05/2021 16:19

This sounds interesting from that article @Scottishskifun

Early research from Yale University also indicates that vaccines seem to help those with long Covid. As many as 30-40% of those who get the vaccines report improvement to their symptoms.

WouldBeGood · 31/05/2021 16:54

Good to hear some good news. Let’s hope for no more tiers.

That is interesting hopefully my second jab will help as I currently feel like I'm going backwards! 🙄
latissimusdorsi · 31/05/2021 18:31

So looking at the stats Scotland has 14% of uk cases today for 8% of the populationConfused That's not good whatever way you look at it! Since everything still decided by number of cases

Cismyfatarse · 31/05/2021 18:38

An entire vaccine centre (St Andrews) sent out appointments for today for second doses of AZ but when my colleague got there, it was closed.

Really, really terrible. You couldn't make it up.

Cismyfatarse · 31/05/2021 18:39

And watching youngsters getting done in England. But, in Fife, you'll have had your jag.

Kate Middleton's 39 and only just got hers in England. She's hardly a youngster..there's nothing between the two countries.
Cismyfatarse · 31/05/2021 18:58

But I am 52 and still waiting for my second. Probably because I am not royal.

And an electronic booking system would allow us to find days, times and locations that suit. A blue envelope arriving followed by a long queue only to be told the vaccine centre was not expecting to open - shocking.

And people 30 and over can book in England.

I am 52, have asthma and work full time in a secondary school. Plus, I help DH with frail MiL.

So, not good. Not good at all

Crikey that's bad! Tell her to call the vaccination line.

I think it's hit and miss with how they are doing down the ages, some areas (including mine) are storming ahead my scheduled vaccination was due 2 weeks ago and I'm 35 (got a bin one a week earlier). But I think central belt is in the higher age groups because there are more people.

England all my friends left who haven't had a job associated vaccine have been done (30-40 age group) spread from the South East through to Manchester. But again it seems to be health board specific of how far down the numbers they are.

Hopefully they will push, I can't see the central belt being moved down a level tomorrow though!

WouldBeGood · 31/05/2021 19:02

They’re going to have to for the football, aren’t they?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 31/05/2021 19:02

That's just false, there is almost nothing to choose between the two if you look at Travelling Tabby.
Scottishskifun · 31/05/2021 19:05

@WouldBeGood

Nope it's a separate applied for licence to the SG and probably be labelled a "test" for inside the stadium.

I think they will move Glasgow to level 2 but that's it. Plus it's football and SG...... Apparently football is exempt for pretty much everything!

WouldBeGood · 31/05/2021 19:08

I am scunnered

Cismyfatarse · 31/05/2021 19:16

Do you know what, I am scunnered too.

I am fed up with trying to teach 30+ teenagers all wearing masks, while wearing a mask and getting a sore throat when I talk through it for much time.

I don't see that Fife is doing as well as England when a vaccine centre send out invites, and then didn't open. DH works part time in vaccine centres and was in one about 10 miles away and they knew nothing about St Andrews until people started turning up to see if the letter had the wrong place.

My colleague missed a morning of teaching and his classes were covered by a non specialist so the kids got a raw deal.

So, no. I am not looking at some Scottish website that will tell me how fabulous Scotland is. A load of people were told to turn up and the place was closed.

My friends (50s) are not all fully vaccinated while my son (21) who lives in England at the moment is able to book his first next week.

Fed up.

Scottishskifun · 31/05/2021 19:17

@WouldBeGood hopefully I'm wrong but looking at level data versus the current rates most of the central belt wouldn't shift.

Did see the god awful scottish tory leader stating that whole councils shouldn't be held by small cluster outbreaks if that then puts it over a certain rate per 100,000.... And it makes sense as much as I hate agreeing with him as he's a toss pot! Think it's different if whole councils are showing high community transmission in every part then they do need to get it under control.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 31/05/2021 19:24

Obviously there were some circumstances around that @Cismyfatarse but does it really warrant more Scotland is Shite themed posts? One incident is just that, one incident, overall the percentage of people vaccinated is not far off identical.
