12-15 yr olds would benefit from having the vaccine, would be less having to isolate when a school/class outbreak happens.
Speaking with my daughter she will get her 12 yr old DC done.

Lidlfix · 04/06/2021 19:06

My 17 year old who has endured isolation and her besties family being seriously ill (ICU young and no underlying conditions) really wants a vaccine.

Our American teen relations (14 and 16) were pfizered before DH and I had our AZ.

Icannever · 04/06/2021 20:42

Mine are not quite the right age yet, eldest will be very soon though. I’m not convinced either way but unless it started having more serious effects on young people then I’d feel I but guilty using a dose which could be used on someone who’s likely to die from it in a poorer country 😬

Icannever · 04/06/2021 20:43

A bit not I but 🙄

titsintiers · 04/06/2021 21:04

Let's not tempt fate again with thread titles like tiero tiero tiero. Sorry to be a party pooper but look what happened to the last tiers thread......

Haudyourwheesht · 04/06/2021 22:47

Have we had tiers in heaven?

MaryGubbins · 05/06/2021 00:23

We vaccinate kids every year for flu as we know they are super spreaders to the elderly and are at very low risk themselves though already.

(Although I do take the argument about ensuring global adult coverage to some extent)

rookiemere · 05/06/2021 08:49

How about "Tiers in the rain" to reflect our likely UK summer holidays Grin?

dancemom · 05/06/2021 13:23

I take full responsibility for getting carried away on the last thread and thinking the end was in sight 🙈

• 860 new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 27,436 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
◦ 3.4% of these were positive
• 1 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
• 3,345,842 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 2,202,547 have received their second dose

Not sure how this compares to England but I was interested to see that the % is quite high, given that we've been talking about it as a factor in our third wave. Tayside's numbers have shot up in the last week or two.

So this morning papers include a investigation into Scotlands covid contracts including SG and NHS..... With over 160 found to not have been tendered properly.

Again the phrase those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones springs to mind!
No doubt it will be "a different situation" response.

With all these SNP scandals I can't help but feel they are the Scottish equivalent of twisted Tory party! Which is saying a lot but they just keep coming!

charliebrown59 · 06/06/2021 10:36

It'll be an iron law that covid contracts given out around the world have been found to be questionable on many bases: if you face a shortened timeframe due to urgency, usual tender rules get bypassed, governments are going to default to cronyism as a way of appointing contracts.

Do we think that if Labour had been in power the pandemic wouldn't have been a golden age for trade unions dictating contract terms?

I'd love to see a research study on covid contracts across the world, govts picking their flavour of in-group has to be by and large the outcome on the whole for pandemic contract allocation.

I'll be very surprised if you can find an opposing trend where covid related contracts were held to impartial standards in the immediate crisis.

Scottishskifun · 06/06/2021 10:52

@charliebrown59 probably very true about the standards not followed by most countries. I just then find it a bit ironic when similar scandals then hit Scotlands govt after the rhetoric of 'being better'

ResilienceWanker · 06/06/2021 11:00

Yes, I have to say I'm not surprised about the general lack of due diligence over the contracts. If I have an unexpected urgent piece of work that a client needs doing at short notice, I confess I'd resort to nepotism Grin. That is, I'd tend to offer first refusal to contractors I've worked with in the past, who have done a good job and i have a good working relationship with that can cope with a few unreasonable demands! On the assumption that on the good/ cheap/fast triangle they are capable of good and fast, though maybe not cheap...

With more time, or warning this would not go down well, and we'd have to have a more open tender, with more focus on cost - looking at different ways of meeting the same requirements and so on that may be more efficient. But in a state of urgency, as the pandemic was (albeit maybe it shouldn't have been) the focus was on FAST, with quality and cost very much secondary, as proved by the UK. (who apparently didn't even have my benefit of knowing the contractors could provide what was needed... Only that they were decent eggs in the local cricket club or whatever. )

charliebrown59 · 06/06/2021 11:38

Well exactly @Scottishskifun that moral high ground is tricky to occupy! Grin

WouldBeGood · 06/06/2021 12:26

Just an excuse for backhanders all round.

And people wonder what’s in it for governments.

Sleazy bastards, the lot of them.

Lidlfix · 06/06/2021 13:26

Just did an embarrassing walk of shame at the vaccination centre. Past all the Pfizer jagees . But the nurse couldn't believe I was AstraZenca age (probably says that to all the crinkley hags) though shades and a face mask no doubt help.

Delighted that the over 40 education staff are being fast tracked for second doses in my hot spot area Smile

dancemom · 06/06/2021 14:01

• 775 new cases of COVID-19 reported
• 20,675 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results
◦ 4.0% of these were positive
• 0 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive (noting that Register Offices are now generally closed at weekends)
• 3,365,779 people have received the first dose of the covid vaccination and 2,227,493 have received their second dose

That’s a good afternoon @Lidlfix!

Bytheloch · 06/06/2021 15:14

Over 50s getting second appointments through, in my ‘teetering on the edge of a community breakout, caused by young people having fun, but not doing track and trace apparently, at a local bar’ area.

Bytheloch · 06/06/2021 15:30

Beautiful sunny day, been lochside, of courseGrin Scotland looks amazing on days like this- just have to forget it’s governed by amateurs and everything feels great again. Plenty of tourists, judging by the campervans, motorhomes and packed car parks. Long may it continue across the summer- tourism and hospitality need a strong season so much. Recovery must come first, not negativity about visitors.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 06/06/2021 15:49

I'm going away to the pub, first time since...I think September!? 🍻

Lidlfix · 06/06/2021 16:18

Are you Stirling/shire Loch?

My adorable wee DM sent me a message with the Forth Valley Health Board announcement cause she knew DH and I had been to some Stirling pubs. I just love that she still sees me as a daft teenager who would go to a shot bar. My 23 year old DD feels too old for Tingle.

The outbreak is having a significant impact on lots of other venues and schools.

WouldBeGood · 06/06/2021 16:22

Enjoy @SoMuchForSummerLove!
