Whoever gets education will have to be an improvement, surely nobody could be as ineffectual

Lockdownbear · 18/05/2021 21:33

@WouldBeGood

I suppose at least John Swinney is now away from our children’s lives after a shocking year
Well said. My thoughts exactly fingers crossed for an improvement in Education.
Iwouldratherbesailing · 18/05/2021 21:35

I’m sure John Swinney hasn’t always been a fuckwit has he though? He used to be thought of as vaguely competent. What has happened to the politicians the SNP can offer? They are all so utterly dire. It’s as though they have independence in their sights and just can’t be bothered trying to do anything else well anymore.

Groovee · 18/05/2021 21:36

Oh ffs.

ScotlandUnited · 18/05/2021 21:57

I reckon Kaukub Stewart will get the education job. She's been a teacher for 30 years hasn't she? And Humza will keep Justice.
Kate Forbes will keep finance I think.
Fulton McGregor might get the youth education job or something similar - I think he actually comes across well from the little I've seen of him although I don't share his politics.
No idea who could get health.

NotSoLongGoodbye · 19/05/2021 09:28

Swinney - Covid recovery guru. Dunno whether to laugh or cry. At least he's away from education - done enough damage there I expect. Anyone know what he's got on Nicola, why she keeps supporting him? I think he's a walking omnishambles ...

titsintiers · 19/05/2021 12:03

And here's the rest of the dream team

Health... Hmm

WouldBeGood · 19/05/2021 13:02

With Humza and Swinney to save us from Covid we have nothing to worry about now. 🤣

Who’s Ms Somerville, now on education?

OP posts:
NotSoLongGoodbye · 19/05/2021 13:28

@WouldBeGood

Shirley-Anne Somerville is Dunfermline MSP - she's been around for ages (was previously a member for Edinburgh) - not aware of her being particular effective but happy to be put right by other posters. Previous brief was Minister for Older people and social security I think. Strongly suspect she's gonna be a Swinney-bot

WouldBeGood · 19/05/2021 13:36

Thanks @NotSoLongGoodbye.

I’ve had a quick google and it’s not looking inspiring: another loyal servant well rewarded but no great merit.

OP posts:
NotSoLongGoodbye · 19/05/2021 13:41

@wouldbegood - yep my conclusion also. Humza Yousaf is an interesting choice for the health portfolio too ...

WouldBeGood · 19/05/2021 13:45

I’m beginning to think they’ve deliberately recruited these dimwits so they can retain full control at the top. Really doesn’t inspire confidence.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 19/05/2021 13:46

I am feeling much cheerier despite that though, as have been back at the gym full on this week. A pt session and four, yes four!, classes.

OP posts:
Peppafrig · 19/05/2021 13:51

What qualifications does Humza have to be health secretary? At least he got a demotion of sorts .

rookiemere · 19/05/2021 14:05

@WouldBeGood 4 classes is very impressive.

I've come to the sad realisation that to shift some pounds the chocolates have got to go - we've got into a bad habit of buying ourselves posh boxes to eat every evening as a lockdown treat Blush. Mind you it's looking doubtful we'll get bloody anywhere this summer so what's the point.

What dirt must Swinney hold to get these high positions? What has been done to DCs is shameful, anyone I know who has an exam age DC says they are stressed and exhausted beyond belief. How on earth they can score the yeah but no but exams fairly beggars belief, oh and teachers have 2 whole days to do it.

Bytheloch · 19/05/2021 14:19

I posted my rail/rant on the tiers thread by mistake. It’s one of those kind of days. I’ll just rail again on here anyway...
Railing about the new cabinet. Not going to derail this thread with anyone who wants to disagree me. Just let me rail in peace when I say- send help- Scotland really needs it. I despair. No different to Boris appointments- in that just loyal servants have been rewarded with cabinet positions and all this ridiculous pseudo Downing St walk to Bute House to learn their fate. The lack of talent, no innovative thinking and not a scrap of global experience between them...unless you count some day trips south of Berwick for a few of them. Rail/rant over

WouldBeGood · 19/05/2021 14:35

I was thinking about the horror of that lot on a global stage...

Good analogy with the Boris crew: just mindless servants in it for personal gain.

Agree - I looked up the non-entity elected for our seat for the SNP - he had been to China, for a few months. And he went pretty much straight into politics.

Not exactly the stuff of dreams in terms of experience.

So many career politicians with no other expertise except what can be sold to people.

riverrunning · 19/05/2021 16:04

Is anyone else thinking of trying to get to Portugal/Madeira in the next 4 weeks before we all get locked down again?

The thought has crossed my mind...

titsintiers · 19/05/2021 16:27

Do you know something we don't @riverrunning? 😱

I've accepted that I probably won't be going anywhere other than back up to tier 3. There's a very small possibility that I might get to go and scatter my Dad's ashes. But I think that'll be next year.

rookiemere · 19/05/2021 16:27

@riverrunning yes if I didn't have DS at school and just started a new role, I'd be looking to travel just now in case it all goes pop again. I'm even thinking that UK trips may not be guaranteed over Summer if local lockdowns are still a thing.

riverrunning · 19/05/2021 16:38

No inside information and it looks as though vaccines are working but I'm dubious that there won't be a summer panic over travel.

It seems we are already in the local lockdown strategy that failed before the second lockdown.

I'd even take the dc out...but mine are primary age.
