Is a hypocrite.

Boris will be 'picking a fight with the democratic wishes of the Scottish people' and ' the only people that can decide the future of Scotland are the Scottish people'

Forgive me if i'm being stupid but didn't we already have a vote on independence, how did that go. Oh that's right......not how NS wanted so she ignores the democratic wishes of the Scottish people and pushes for Indy 2.

Laughable how she comes out with this stuff.

It was this year. A gap between spending and income does not mean Scotland is subsidised by the UK.

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/05/2021 16:29

Oh and also the 'expenditure in Scotland' contains billions on defence. Which could be better used on infrastructure, education, the NHS. I don't see nuclear weapons as being useful. Others might and that's fine.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 16:29

What sort of economist ignores all the figures that show quite clearly that scotland runs a deficit in favour of one misinterpreted line in a FOI request. Jesus!! Where did you get your economics degree from again?

The growth commission includes defence spending (are you sure you actually read it?) and if scotland wants to remain a member of NATO they'd have to maintain the current level of defence spending.
StarryEyeSurprise · 11/05/2021 16:39

That's not true re NATO.

Surely you know that most countries are running a deficit and it doesn't mean they are subsidised by another.
JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/05/2021 16:48

As usual the gaslighting spouse tells the abused partner, you cant afford to leave me, who's going to pay for you and you'll never make it alone

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 16:50

Yes I know that most countries run a deficit. None quite as big as Scotland's though.

At least you are admitting that Scotland spends more than it takes in in tax revenue, that's a step forward. Can you explain where that extra money to cover the overspend comes from?

BewtySkoolDropowt · 11/05/2021 17:06

What I want to know is, if Scotland is such a huge drain on resources, why are the Tories not falling over backwards to get rid of us?

It makes no sense. They appear to be motivated by money, after all. Surely they would be so much better off without Scotland?

It's interesting isn't it? Someone once wrote on one of these threads that England subsidised is hugely out of a sense of duty. They really believed it too. 🤣

I thought you said you had an economics degree too?
Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 17:48

Avoiding the question I see. No I don't have an economics degree.

But you speak so authoritatively on the subject and are so dismissive of someone who does!

Ok , here's a simple video from the BBC on what a deficit really is . This is why it's so important that Scotland has its own currency.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 18:08

If starry could answer the questions rather than just saying she's right because she has an economics degree then I wouldn't be able to dismiss her so easily would I?

StarryEyeSurprise · 11/05/2021 18:09

And why 'Scotland will be bankrupt ' is total bull.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 18:09

Oh dear his you didn't just link to a MMt video did you?!?!! 😂😂😂😂😂🙄🙄🙄🙄

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 18:09

I've literally linked a simple , straightforward video explaining deficits. Yet you continue to be extremely rude.
Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 18:12

MMT is nonsense. The basis of it that you can just print money without hyperinflation is just ludicrous!!!

You don't ' just print money'.
StarryEyeSurprise · 11/05/2021 18:36

Also MMT is not just a theory. It's what actually happens in fiat currency countries.

Also, you realise that Stephanie Kilton is not just an economist? She's a Senior Fellow at the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis.

I do love your self confidence though @grafitti.

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 18:46

One of the other cores theories of MMT is that the government ensures full employment through a job guarantee. Can you show me where that has been out into practice please?

Graffitiqueen · 11/05/2021 18:52

gimms.org.uk/job-guarantee/

"A Job Guarantee (JG) that works to keep inflation down as it provides employment to anyone willing and able to work is central to MMT. "
