Fed up of snp. Won’t vote Tory.

What do I do?

I’m actually quite ambivalent about independence and can see pros and cons on both sides. But I fear the snp will always be in power unless we do get it.

I feel they’ve been in power long enough without delivering on equality poverty or education. At the very least I’d like to see them with a far smaller majority.

But who the hell can I vote for? It feels like both Labour and Lib Dem are lost causes.

I’ve never felt so disengaged Sad

that's a really good letter StarryEyedSurprise

really brings it all home how much has been achieved

@Babdoc

I will be voting Conservative. I live in a Tory/SNP marginal constituency and every vote matters, to try and prevent another divisive referendum. I think a lot of people’s stance on “never voting Tory” is silly emotionalism, or based on disliking individual personalities such as Boris Johnson. The Tories played an absolute blinder on getting us a vaccine deal - they recognised the importance of piling in fast with vaccine orders and investment, even before the trials were concluded. Compared to the utter fiasco in the EU, who are still playing catch up. Tory policies for Scotland include significant investment in the NHS - I should point out that Sturgeon is only projecting 2.5% in real terms next year, compared to the Tories 3.4% for England, so the SNP are certainly not the defenders of the NHS they claim to be. The Tories have a far better record on the economy and business than the SNP. Did you know that Scotland had the fewest new business start ups per head, in the whole UK? Without thriving businesses paying tax, an independent Scotland would be poverty struck without the English subsidy via the Barnett formula. The SNP have failed on education- during their 14 years in office, Scotland has plummeted down the international league tables. England by contrast has improved under the Torys. The SNP has also thrown women’s rights under the bus to appease trans activists. Male rapists who claim to identify as women will now be placed in women’s prisons. Ditto access for men to any women’s single sex spaces such as communal changing rooms and showers. I would vote tactically for whichever anti independence party was best placed to kick out the SNP, but I am happy that, in my area, that is the Tories.
Babdoc the horrific case posted earlier on this thread - re men in women's prisons- was in Yorkshire.
BettysCardigan · 21/04/2021 10:52

@Babdoc it's not 'silly emotionalism' to not want to vote for the party of Brexit, which is also currently embroiled in multiple sleaze and corruption scandals.

museumum · 21/04/2021 11:00

I’m emotional about not voting Tory. I’m not ashamed of that.
As a party they believe in individuals pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps and those who can’t manage that are weak or not trying hard enough. Everything they do lacks compassion.

Oh completely agree, but it's not 'silly'. If the emotion you're experiencing is empathy which influences your voting decision that gives me hope.

Dressinggownchic · 21/04/2021 11:27

I want to vote labour but our candidate is an elderly battle axe I would cross the street to avoid normality Confused

doubletrouble20 · 21/04/2021 11:47

@museumum - I have a similar emotional reaction to voting Tory, and am not sure I could do it myself if our area was SNP/Con - but I believe in your situation the tactical vote would be conservative (while crying internally!) for your actual seat (assuming the Tory in your area isn't a complete bastard) and then Labour or Lib Dem - whoever your preference is for - for your regional seat. This would be the most likely to reduce the SNP dominance while also being able to cast a vote for a party you prefer to the Tories.

StarryEyeSurprise · 21/04/2021 12:04

For people that are voting Tory ( in a case like the above). Would you not rather a more effective opposition?

Gothichouse40 · 21/04/2021 12:12

A GP appointment in two days!!!!!! Blimey, Im living in the wrong part of Scotland, even before Covid I was looking at waiting 3 weeks!

Iwouldratherbesailing · 21/04/2021 12:18

It’s the fact that we have to vote for corrupt idiots to protect the future of Scotland, to protect those who would be hardest hit by the economic devastation of independence that’s sad. If only those brainwashed by the cult that is the SNP would actually read some of the facts and wake up...

Yep
BettysCardigan · 21/04/2021 13:01

Oh look, SNP voters are brainwashed cultists 🥱

StarryEyeSurprise · 21/04/2021 13:04

The thing is, you don't. You can vote against in a referendum if you don't want an Scotland to be fully controlled at Holyrood.

You might like to pretend that you're somehow forced to vote for a corrupt party but that's bollocks.

WouldBeGood · 21/04/2021 13:07

No, I need to vote to try to ensure that more vile policies won’t get passed by the SNP.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/04/2021 13:13

I'm voting for Labour for constituency msp. The tactical vote to keep tories out would be snp but I've just had enough of them.
My labour candidate seems great.

I do want independence but tbh I think now would be an awful time for a referendum.

Scottishskifun · 21/04/2021 14:57

I'm going for labour this time. Been pretty impressed with the candidate and they have real life skills and worked outside of politics. Also quite find myself agreeing the most with labour.

The SNP candidate in our area is a career politician went to uni then straight to politics. I have a real dislike for this!

I voted SNP last time but completely fed up with them and don't agree with an independence referendum in a pandemic!

Selkiesarereal · 21/04/2021 15:18

I was all set to vote Labour for my constituency vote but it turns out that they are super woke and doesn’t quite know what a women is.

I will vote for them on the list vote though as that has some great candidates including Jackie Bailiie. So a bit of a quandary.

This gave me a laugh at least.
forfucksakenett · 21/04/2021 16:37

@WouldBeGood yes because the tories are well known for their non vile policies Smile

How anyone can look at DR though and think yep, that's leadership. That's my guy. Does make me genuinely laugh.

forfucksakenett · 21/04/2021 16:41

@Bytheloch

Mark, a self-declared ‘New Scot’ must be fun at parties...Hmm What other ‘placed’ drivel has your cul-de-sac of content groups spewed out recently?

Stirling folk- Tory for candidate and Labour for the list, is the method to vote against SNP here.
The First Mammy must be a little worried about her seat if they’ve rolled out the anti-Labour chat already

The First Mammy? More casual misogyny Hmm
WouldBeGood · 21/04/2021 16:55

Once again, I’m not a Tory. My vote would be tactical for a more balanced Parliament

WouldBeGood · 21/04/2021 16:56

Instead of just sneering @forfucksakenett maybe have a think about why people are feeling like this.

Bytheloch · 21/04/2021 17:08

No fucks given by me at this stage 🤷‍♀️ @forfucksakenett
