Fed up of snp. Won’t vote Tory.

What do I do?

I’m actually quite ambivalent about independence and can see pros and cons on both sides. But I fear the snp will always be in power unless we do get it.

I feel they’ve been in power long enough without delivering on equality poverty or education. At the very least I’d like to see them with a far smaller majority.

But who the hell can I vote for? It feels like both Labour and Lib Dem are lost causes.

I’ve never felt so disengaged Sad

For me tactical voting only makes sense if you are happy with the party you're trying to get in. And it's a viscous circle because then the smaller parties never stand a chance even if lots of people actuality support them.

haggistramp · 17/04/2021 20:51

You could vote alba on the list. Pro indy and very pro womens rights.

Groovee · 17/04/2021 21:26

Please don't vote that awful Scottish Family Party. Their latest Twitter spat is against single mums. They claim 2 parents a mum and dad are best. Tell that to my 3 friends whose husbands died with no choice in the matter.

Blurberoo · 17/04/2021 21:42

I’m going to vote Alba on the list but spoil the candidate paper.

Blurberoo · 17/04/2021 21:46

The Scottish Family Party are bonkers! Where did they come from out of the blue? I get the impression it’s the brain child of just one presumably well-off guy!

Willow79 · 17/04/2021 21:53

Once upon a time, @Escapetothecuntry my mum was a candidate and she was shown the spoiled ballots. She said some of things written were pretty shocking 😳

I'll be voting SNP and Alba, reluctantly. I almost considered not voting at all for the first year ever.

Pootle40 · 17/04/2021 23:11

I feel the same and never in my life could I ever bring myself to vote Tory.

Gothichouse40 · 18/04/2021 02:57

Why on earth would anyone vote for Mr Salmond's party? Due to recent events, how is he supporting women's rights?

HirplesWithHaggis · 18/04/2021 03:07

By "recent events" do you mean the court case when he was exonerated of all charges, or the Alba women's conference last weekend?

Gothichouse40 · 18/04/2021 03:11

Hirples, in my own opinion there is still a question mark over Mr Salmond and his behaviour towards women. Plenty men get exonerated.

Gothichouse40 · 18/04/2021 03:14

Unfortunately we will never know.

This. And criminal charges aside it seems like a lot of people in the SNP turned a blind eye to behaviour that was at best sleazy AF. I'm having trouble accepting that my best bet for women's rights is to vote in Alec Salmond. Maybe if I wasn't in the NE region but an Alba vote here is a direct vote for him.

Well he started off with UKIP at the last election, then he's gone down this... been in front of the GTCS and been lucky not to be struck off but has only ever worked at Merchiston Castle.
RedcurrantPuff · 18/04/2021 08:52

There’s no point in spoiling a ballot. When they count up spoiled papers they don’t determine between whether it’s a protest or someone too thick to fill in the ballot paper correctly. Better to vote for the party most likely to overturn the current incumbent, if you want shot of them.

haggistramp · 18/04/2021 08:54

From what I've read alex salmond was stitched up. This is a complete 180° from me who at the outset had him pegged as guilty. Over 1000 interviews, 400 allegations of which 14 of the 'best' allegations to secure a guilty verdict were taken to court. Where the accusers were allowed to conspire together to get their stories correct before the trial. And of which all 14 AS walked away a free man. And I think certainly one of the accusers who was proven not to be at the occasion where her accusations allegedly took place should be hauled back to court on perjury. And if these were the best, then the other 386 must have been absolute piffle, especially going by the dramatic mountain Angus Robertson was making out the airport incident. The way he was going on I thought this was a sexually motivated physical assault. To find out Alex Salmond had simply said to a colleague that her shoes must be 'killer heels' when she was asked to remove them at airport security. Makes a mockery of true victims and quite frankly diminishes the whole process. And whilst I continue to believe that not all men who are found not guilty/not proven with such charges are innocent, I dont believe no men are innocent. For me, having read what unravelled in court, the jury made the right decision and questions need to be asked if the SG role in this very obvious witch hunt.

Blurberoo · 18/04/2021 09:12

@RedcurrantPuff the current MSP where I live is Tory with the SNP guy very close behind in the last election. I think the Tory will easily win this time. Couldn’t bring myself to vote for either of them.

malloo · 18/04/2021 10:11

I feel the same OP. I've no idea who to vote for, really struggle with the idea of voting Tory even if its just to try and reduce the dominance of the SNP, it would still feel like support for their policies which I don't. They're not even pro women, they're just not in thrall to the gender ideologists. I thought Ruth Davidson was good but she's going. Encouraged by Alba's position on women's rights but they seem a very mixed bag with some dubious characters, and I'm on the fence about Indy. I want to vote Labour but I fear they are mostly captured on gender issues. Am reading and listening to everything in the hope it will become clear how best to use my vote!

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/04/2021 10:21

I'm voting Tory, they are the only option against SNP in my area.

I want that shower of lying devious incompetents out. I think that Scottish Tory is a better option and the only ones standing for women effectively. I like Anas and if Labour was a viable option I might do that instead but they are still too woke really for my taste. On the other hand, I've been reasonably encouraged by murdo fraser who I think would have been a better option than Ross for the Tories.

Gothichouse40 · 18/04/2021 10:38

Haggis, I was talking about Mr Salmond's behaviour not the court case. I know he was exonerated and you seem to have studied the case in depth. Yes, there was no criminal behaviour but I am talking about appropriate behaviour of which, in my mind, there is a question mark. There also is somewhere, a very interesting interview with the writer Val McDermid who I believe is a long time SNP supporter. Lovely person, unfortunately I cannot find the link and I cannot remember who interviewed her. Miss McDermid said something quite interesting about why Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon's relationship might have soured. If you can find the excerpt, it may make you think a bit differently. I don't want to quote Miss McDermid as I cannot remember word for word what she said and would not want to get it wrong. I have to say I do believe Mr Salmond is a formidable opponent in any political debate, but went right off him during the last Independence Referendum. I felt at times his conduct was not nice, even though I know politics can be rather nasty at times. I will not be voting for the Alba Party or the SNP. The Liberal Democrats have some interesting things in their Manifesto about women's health(which I think has been neglected for far too long in this country). However, I want to read all Manifestos apart from UKIP and some other parties before I make my final decision.

haggistramp · 18/04/2021 11:19

@gothic for me it comes down to a choice between a party who wishes to dismantle womens rights and a party who doesn't. I'm not against voting tory per se, I agree with some of their policies but they have no real interest in helping the poor or disabled and I just can't give them my vote based on that. Labour/libs/greens are useless, altho perhaps not in that order.

ScotlandUnited · 18/04/2021 11:34

My MSP is Jackie Baillie, by something like 300 votes.

I think she'll increase her majority given recent events and I think she did well in the committee.

Plus the SNP candidate is someone no one has really heard of and we don't know what (if anything) they've achieved locally. But of course, people will vote them anyway cause of independence.

I'm not sure whether to vote Labour or Conservative in the list.

forfucksakenett · 18/04/2021 12:56

It would help matters if the Tories even had bothered with a manifesto yet.

annabelindajane · 19/04/2021 13:13

Meantime over on “Wings” re puberty blockers .
High court in England ruled last year that children under 16 were not medically competent to consent to such treatment .

The Sandyford which is Scotland’s only gender clinic has apologised for not highlighting the dangers of the drug but will still dispense it .

Meantime Nicola Sturgeon refuses to intervene and is instead concentrating on more important children’s issues such as removing custard and icecream from school lunch menus . ( Replace with yogurt and fruit ) . Commendable I hear you say however this will not sort the obesity problem .

So basically as far as Scotgov is concerned it’s fine it’s fine to feed children powerful drugs that are used to castrate male rapists which will give them health problems for the rest of their lives but icecream and custard are out .

Thoughts on a postcard please........

Crazy that people are voting Tory or alba to protect women's rights...they're not anti-trans for anything like the same reasons as radfens
