@RedactedTaeFeck those stoves sound great! Promise not to set the heather alight though. Well, not literally

@Lockdownbear sadly I'm not joking. Relatives involved in this.

People think university is sitting listening to lectures and taking notes, easy enough to do online. For lot of courses there's very practical skills have to be learned and students have now missed a whole year of this

WouldBeGood · 14/04/2021 14:09

@Icannever ooh, I like Morayshire. Thanks. ThAt looks nice! Maybe a test run. Now to persuade DP or DS to come with me. I’d be scared alone, I think.

@Lockdownbear what about Clyde valley family park?

Lockdownbear · 14/04/2021 14:13

That is really frightening. Surely they need to extend the courses to cover practical skills. Just the same as they have with the dentists.

I really wouldn't want to have a who cohort of nurses or doctors poking needles in people who don't know what they are doing.
I've forgiven Dr Stab, everyone has to learn, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten how sore it was when she had 6 goes at it.

Lockdownbear · 14/04/2021 14:15

Clyde Valley Farm Park could be an option. Mmmm

RedactedTaeFeck · 14/04/2021 14:24

@WouldBeGood, DS has one of those teeny lightweight single persons tents and associated kit, you could do a solo trek across the Cairngorms!!

I’m really scared of the country at night 😂😂

Clyde Valley is sold out too.

This is what I get for not being organised but doesn't help that I didn't know if DH was definitely getting the day off.

The weather looks good so will find somewhere.

ResilienceWanker · 14/04/2021 15:23

@latissimusdorsi

Blended learning works in theory but in practical terms it hasn't due to staffing levels. Reality has been half a day in person and next 2 weeks online. That's not really blended! Concerning that courses that needed practical labs up until now suddenly don't Hmm Nursing and med students being taught injections and blood taking by video!
Yes, agree that's shit. But that's not blended learning. That's panic "aaaaargh, we're not allowed to have more than 8 people in a room because of bloody 2m social distancing and we don't have enough rooms or staff members to cope" learning. Assuming the 2m thing is dropped by the start of next term (even to 1m) they can get something much more "natural" and take the good bits of the blended learning model and drop the shit bits. Things like practicals have been really tricky, and I agree, if those can't go ahead next term everyone's stuffed (I already feel sorry for the dental students having to repeat their final year, or students on 1 year masters who never got the practical aspect this year...)

Sorry... Don't want to sound too positive and "look on the bright side" - y.

Lockdownbear · 14/04/2021 15:24

The 2m thing has been dropped from schools.

ResilienceWanker · 14/04/2021 15:32

Yes, thank goodness! It's still a requirement in unis I think (or guidance, at least) but hopefully if all over 18s can get jabbed by July as planned there will be enough justification to drop it for the new term. Though some Scottish freshers could still be 17, so not sure how that will work. Maybe they'll be jabbed as a special case?

Lockdownbear · 14/04/2021 15:53

It's the logic that makes no sense. A 17yo in school wouldn't need 2m SD but a 17 yo in Uni does Hmm.

ResilienceWanker · 14/04/2021 16:02

Ah, I've given up assuming that logic has anything to do with the decisions made! You're right of course. But they've drawn the line somewhere. It would have been good for uni students to get at least a bit of no-SD time to do practicals and so on, like senior high school students have had. But they'll be into exams after Easter, and I think the unis/ unions have just decided its not worth the backlash when most students will be vaccinated shortly, which isn't the case for schools.

That because schools are "safe" and everywhere else is .""unsafe"Hmm

😂 I will have to remember to tow the party line when I get asked where I got covid from then!

The public perception that covid only exists in environments where the govt highlights it is bonkers! It's a very successful campaign though given the number of people who spout it like gospel!
Reality is it exists wherever someone who is positive either asystomatic, before symptoms or after symptoms it has been and lingers longer in cold not well ventilated environments!

Lockdownbear · 14/04/2021 16:25

It's up there with covids ability to tell the time and its ability to figure if you have pure Coca-Cola or if you've been playing Russian roulette by adding vodka. 😉

latissimusdorsi · 14/04/2021 16:39

Schools became Gov approved "safe" because we all caused such an outcry over blended learning!
No-one caused an outcry over Colleges and Unis (although we might when we need blood taken by someone who learned online) so they remain "unsafe"

shouldistop · 14/04/2021 16:59

@Lockdownbear ah that's rubbish. Ds1 is in nursery on Friday but we're going to Clyde valley on Saturday.

Lockdownbear · 14/04/2021 17:03

Might look further afield. Which areas are the schools back, Fife, Ayrshire, purely on the logic if the schools are in the things in the area might be quieter.

Groovee · 14/04/2021 17:10

Went to IKEA. It was dead. Only popped in as I was at Costco. We have a drinks table 🎉🎉 for the decking. Can take the tray off and carry over the garden to ds's bar he built last year.

shouldistop · 14/04/2021 17:11

That's a good idea, hopefully you get something.

Glasgow IKEA? (Well, technically it's Renfrewshire's Grin) I was thinking about going tomorrow but the queues have put me off.

It's not that schools are 'safe', it's that the benefits of having them open mitigate the risks more than, say, a pub.

Groovee · 14/04/2021 17:21

@Haudyourwheesht Edinburgh. Car park was busy but store was quiet. They had the red light green light thing like Tesco and Aldi. No queues until the tills. But moved fast.

Logic gave up and went on holiday around July, then got stuck on a beach somewhere as it doesn't want to have to quarantine. We won't be seeing Logic, or it's companion Common Sense, for a while yet

I'm holding out hope that we might be able to have a housewarming anniversary party at end August (as we couldn't have a housewarming!) - nothing huge but 8 from 4 would be a bit small!
