Under 50's vaccines

Does anyone know what's happening up here for the age groups under 50 (who don't fall into the carers / underlying health conditions etc that have already been done)?
I read that NHS England weren't planning to start them before May due to supply issues and to enable them to keep up with second doses but I haven't seen anything relating to Scotland. The BBC website just has all age groups under 50 defined as "by the end of July". The omni queue calculator reckons first dose for age 40+ between 10th & 19th April but I suspect that's fake news.
Has anyone under 50 had an invite yet??
I'm getting impatient now!!

Scotland is older. You could probably work it out if you look at the age pyramid of Scotland vs England. But the wait and lack of info is annoying.

Callisto1 · 27/04/2021 19:06

Wales is pretty far ahead though at 56.6% vs our 50.9% people vaccinated. So who knows?

StillRailing · 27/04/2021 19:15

From figures on % done in the age categories it looks like there had been greater coverage in the older group's we've done.
So at least that's good news.

I'M VACCINATED¬

Very pleased and very efficient service too. Man on the entrance to the car park asked if I was sure I was in the right place as I was clearly far too young for a covid jab. [grim] Straight it, sit down, few quick questions, jab, wait 15 minutes (but there's nobody policing that so a quick 2 minute sit down and out the door).

Easy peasy.

RaspberryCoulis · 27/04/2021 19:40

Grin not grim.

And got a massive birthday cake reduced from £11 to 99p in Sainsburys on the way home to celebrate.

JustABloodyMinute · 27/04/2021 19:45

We do appear to be substantially behind England. I'm in 50+ group and got my jag more than a month after friends younger than me did in England (just made mid-April and no more). Not sure why, maybe the take up is less down there?

Callisto1 · 27/04/2021 19:47

Sounds like it's your day @RaspberryCoulis Grin

emmathedilemma · 27/04/2021 20:01

You’re definitely winning at Tuesday @RaspberryCoulis !

@Sunbeam18

If we are getting our proportion of UK vaccine supply then why is there this huge disparity in roll out speed?
I think because we’re doing about as many per head but almost all ours are second doses at the moment. Back in Jan/Feb we were lagging behind England for ages and then did loads of people over about two weeks in a huge spike, and now all those people are due their second dose all the same time.

Really wish we had a booking system like England has though. It’s frustrating to have no bloody idea at all where they’re up to or how far off you are. Are they still mopping up the over-50s locally or are they on my age group already? Will I get a blue envelope tomorrow, next week, mid-August? 🤷‍♀️

Flossy05 · 28/04/2021 08:04

According to BBC news last night, 63% of adults in England have had a first dose, in Scotland this figure is 62%. It’s only one percentage point but this equates to a lot of people.
The same data are in this article www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55274833
For second doses England is at 22%, Scotland is at 21%.
Wales are striding ahead at 68% and 25%. NI at 61% and 21%.
It certainly looks like Scotland have vaccinated a smaller percentage of the population than England. The other nations seem to be focussed on getting many first doses done quickly. As far as I can see Scotland seem to focussing on mopping up everyone that they have missed in the over 50s and giving second doses before 12 weeks to these groups.

Flossy05 · 28/04/2021 08:11

Oh, and vaccinating every man and his dog who qualify as an unpaid carer.

dementedpixie · 28/04/2021 08:15

Yes I know a couple of people who got it as 'carers'

RaspberryCoulis · 28/04/2021 09:15

But people getting it as unpaid carers, even if not justified, just adds to the overall percentage of people who have had it.

Scotland is still behind overall.

Callisto1 · 28/04/2021 11:30

It really depends what numbers you use. But given that vaccines are divided based on total population, rather than number of adults in population I think it's unfair to judge based on adults vaccinated.

The numbers looking at people vaccinated suggest we're ahead of England and NI. The fact that Scotland has an old population just means younger people have to wait longer.

Callisto1 · 28/04/2021 11:33

I'm also not sure why this adults vaccinated figure even exists since all ages transmit the virus and if we hit 100% adults vaccinated it's totally misleading because 20% of total population (ie our kids) won't have any protection.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 28/04/2021 15:25

Still no letter here in Angus for DH who is 46-49. So on the 13th NS said letters in the next few days, what bollocks.

toucancancan · 28/04/2021 16:51

If you ring the 0800 vaccine info number listed further up they will be able to tell you when letters in your area will be posted out for the 45+ age group.

GintyMcGinty · 28/04/2021 17:52

@Callisto1

I think your stats are dated as BBB currently has first vaccinations as 60%.

Worth seeing though if that source has a more up to date picture as it's a useful way to compare the numbers.

Callisto1 · 28/04/2021 19:08

They're not dated @GintyMcGinty they just describe different things. And as your post demonstrates people don't read what these stats mean. So:

  • 50% is the TOTAL population vaccinated (includes children)
  • 60% is the ADULT population vaccinated

And sorry if I come across as grumpy but this habit of citing adult population stats really annoys me. It just confuses people and inflates the numbers.

GintyMcGinty · 28/04/2021 19:23

@Callisto1 sorry I was just trying to ask if you were able to find a current copy of your post.

I thought I worded my post nicely. Hey ho.

Flossy05 · 28/04/2021 19:24

The “adult population” is quoted because that’s the population that the vaccine programme targets. These figures allow the progress and uptake of the vaccine programme to be monitored.
The percentage of the whole population who are vaccinated is obviously important too but that’s not what the stats quoted are trying to show.

Pootle40 · 28/04/2021 19:53

Probably because they don't really need protected.

Interesting Callisto, thanks
GintyMcGinty · 28/04/2021 20:17

It would also help if people gave the actual links so that we can read the info for ourselves and know what the source is.

Otherwise it's just photos. Could be anything.

Flossy05 · 28/04/2021 20:41

All the data are available here for anyone who is interested- coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/vaccinations
Scotland’s first doses were up to almost 8000 on 27th April so perhaps we are headed in the right direction. First doses in all 4 nations have fallen dramatically since the beginning of April.
