Under 50's vaccines

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 17:41

Does anyone know what's happening up here for the age groups under 50 (who don't fall into the carers / underlying health conditions etc that have already been done)?
I read that NHS England weren't planning to start them before May due to supply issues and to enable them to keep up with second doses but I haven't seen anything relating to Scotland. The BBC website just has all age groups under 50 defined as "by the end of July". The omni queue calculator reckons first dose for age 40+ between 10th & 19th April but I suspect that's fake news.
Has anyone under 50 had an invite yet??
I'm getting impatient now!!

Obviously the singular of data isn't anecdote, but my 45 year old sister had her vaccine a week ago in London. Only 48 and 49 year olds currently being called here. Government saying in England 44 year olds can book in England.

We're behind. However Queen Nicola tries to spin it.

Flossy05 · 26/04/2021 13:43

For anyone in Forth Valley, letters are on there way.
nhsforthvalley.com/covid-19-vaccinations-begin-for-under-50s/

Maybe the variation in demographic explains the low level of first doses this month, who knows, but what has frustrated me most is the lack of information. There has been no explanation whatsoever.

emmathedilemma · 26/04/2021 13:54

That % of 40-49 year olds hasn’t moved for weeks so that’ll be all the NhS staff, carers and people with underlying health conditions etc.

I am 46 and I have lots of school friends across England & NI who have had their vaccine over the last couple of weeks. I don’t know anyone in Scotland in the 44-49 age group who has had it, unless CV or a carer. I agree, we are behind.

emmathedilemma · 26/04/2021 14:09

It’s 45-49 who are getting appointments next @Flossy05 I’m going to make a note of today’s date and wait to see how long until I get mine (I’m 44). I reckon it’ll be a month as appointments that came out last week weren’t until early May.

In the overall scheme of things, I can't get my knickers in a twist that we are a week or two "behind" England.

We did the care homes first, which I believe was the absolute priority (England didn't).

There has been a slight dip in vaccine supply at national level during mid-April & this needed to be resolved before the 40+ group were invited. There's also been the Easter holidays, with NHS staff taking holidays, so less staff around to vaccinate.

Each health board will vary by a week or two, which considering the complexity & logistics of the task, isn't a biggie.

Flossy05 · 26/04/2021 14:18

@emmathedilemma I think that sounds about right. I am not expecting a letter this week or even next as I am at the lower end of the age range but will post when I do.
Really hoping that I get it at least three weeks before overnight stays are allowed. Although, I have completely lost track of what is supposed to happen and when! I’d love to have my Dad to stay as I haven’t seen him since Jan 2020. Fingers crossed that things start moving more quickly again.

That's not true actually - I check the Edinburgh data daily and the 40-49 first dose section has gone from 29% to 31.7% in the last two weeks. Yes that's not much, and yes it's probably mostly catch up of health care workers & unpaid carers, but it's definitely moving.

DH is 48, I’m 45. NHS Lothian. I called the NHS helpline to find out if we’re getting a letter. Letters have been generated for us, not received yet. We are at the same day/time on.....28 May. So don’t get your hopes up for a quick appointment - that’s a loooong way away. Not wildly impressed. DH is a key worker (non NHS) and has to travel for Govt work. He’ll try and change it to nearer obviously

The on-line booking for 45-49 opened on 14 April in England and many friends managed to book for that week. Mid-April to end 28 May in terms of call up is a big difference, especially when that pushes out second doses etc. My 43 year old friend has hers booked for Thursday (London Hackney) as they’ve opened up to the next cohort there.

I said up thread that NHS England had my details from living there. They texted me my booking link on 14 April. It worked. So I used it last week and went to Berwick on Tweed for my AZ. No issues whatsoever. Second dose booked for first week in July. It’s a much smoother system for our age groups.

Callisto1 · 26/04/2021 16:31

Wow so the 40 to 44 group will probably not be invited till June in Lothian. That's quite the wait.

Flossy05 · 26/04/2021 17:41

Have just seen an article saying that two thirds of 45-49s in England have had their first dose. If this is correct, we have quite a long way to go.

Littlemissweepy · 26/04/2021 17:43

Not sure how easy it will be to have all over 18s (or is it 16s?) done by end of July on this basis. Unless they start balancing out 1st and 2nd doses soon. And sort out the booking system for the 21st century.

Information on forward supply, transparency on approach and challenge on progress to meeting stated commitments (when we know of missing letters, tens of thousands of missed appointments etc) needed.

Yes - totally agree on this, there should be discussion on how the appointment system is maybe slowing things down, compared to England where people can book at a time that suits.
mondaywine · 26/04/2021 18:17

If I do end up being late May in Lothian’s before I get my first jag (45) then it’ll be late August by the time I get my second and I will already be back full time in the classroom. Most of colleagues will be a lot later than that before they get their 2nd vaccine.

emmathedilemma · 26/04/2021 18:21

well this is depressing

Lothian has been trailing behind the whole way through! And we have a slightly younger population🤷🏼‍♀️

TeenTraumaTrials · 27/04/2021 11:46

I phoned the hotline this morning and got told my appointment is on 16th May - my letter hasn't arrived yet though. I've been on to the website look for something earlier and there don't seem to be any appointments in East Lothian or Edinburgh any sooner. Will keep trying but at least I now have a date.

ChrisQuean · 27/04/2021 14:19

When I found out DH’s was on 28th May on the call I asked to move it, but was told “nothing available”. There has been a big dump of new appointments allocated to 45-49, so all the spare capacity that could be seen last week on line has suddenly gone in Edinburgh and Lothians. It will move a bit, I’m told as people change/cancel.

doubletrouble20 · 27/04/2021 16:18

I'm getting frustrated now as my uni friends who are all in England & same age as me (43/44) are all getting their vaccines soon, or have had them... but my DH who is in the 45-49 group hasn't even had a letter yet. I'm pleased for them obviously but worried about how long I'm going to have to wait, as I was hoping I could meet up with them early summer but I don't really want to travel far until I've had the first dose of the vaccine...Sad

IndigoApple · 27/04/2021 17:47

@doubletrouble20 same as you. I’m over 50 so had mine now but following this thread for DH who’s in next age group and not heard anything yet. My uni friends in England who are same age as me all had theirs a month before me which was annoying especially as they kept saying just go online and book it! Angry I just felt powerless as there was no info at all.

ParkheadParadise · 27/04/2021 18:25

Vaccine this morning. I feel ok, hopefully won't have any side effects.

Sunbeam18 · 27/04/2021 18:42

I'm 49 in September and found out through phoning the hotline today that my appt is on 9 May. I'm Edinburgh but my appt is in West Lothian.

GintyMcGinty · 27/04/2021 18:44

They are only vaccinating about 2000 under 50s a day in Scotland.

People are going to have to be very, very patient cause that blue envelope is going to take a long time to come.

Sunbeam18 · 27/04/2021 18:47

They seem to still be working through all of the people who are 50 this year! Very slow compared to all other UK areas. 42 year olds are getting text invites to book a slot that suits them as from today in England.

Sunbeam18 · 27/04/2021 18:48

If we are getting our proportion of UK vaccine supply then why is there this huge disparity in roll out speed?
