Under 50's vaccines

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 17:41

Does anyone know what's happening up here for the age groups under 50 (who don't fall into the carers / underlying health conditions etc that have already been done)?
I read that NHS England weren't planning to start them before May due to supply issues and to enable them to keep up with second doses but I haven't seen anything relating to Scotland. The BBC website just has all age groups under 50 defined as "by the end of July". The omni queue calculator reckons first dose for age 40+ between 10th & 19th April but I suspect that's fake news.
Has anyone under 50 had an invite yet??
I'm getting impatient now!!

That's great!

39 and in East Dunbartonshire. Letter arrived, appointment is Wednesday. May be worth checking online:

as letters seem to be a bit slow...

"colourchanginglipstick* I was given the AZ jab and my appointment number on my letter started WUA.

stargirl1701 · 15/05/2021 22:07

I'm mid forties in Perthshire and got mine last week.

OOAOML · 16/05/2021 12:32

I helped my neighbours sort theirs, ref was WUA and they had Pfizer.

doorornottodoor · 16/05/2021 16:42

Mine was WUA and I had AZ

deveronvalley · 16/05/2021 17:55

WUA on original letter and rescheduled appointment, I got Pfizer.

Grellbunt · 17/05/2021 14:31

I think WUA is just a universal reference.

Does anyone know a way to avoid AZ if anxious? I can't stand the idea of being on tenterhooks for four weeks afterwards every time I get a headache (which I do, very frequently)... Don't want to miss out on being vaccinated altogether.

aurea · 18/05/2021 14:49

Sorry to derail.

Does anyone know the vaccine type they are typically offering in Fraserburgh?

Thanks.

ChrisQuean · 19/05/2021 12:40

WUA stands for “walk up appointment”. All the number codes for the big vaccine centres begin “WUA”. It’s not indicative of any vaccine.

colourchanginglipstick · 19/05/2021 16:12

interesting thanks - I wonder if they just knew I was AZ as it was a first appointment and that was what all firsts were getting? and only second appointments were lucky enough to get pfizer?

colourchanginglipstick · 19/05/2021 16:12

(on that particular day, I mean, obv not in general)

I asked about it since they were giving it out in that very centre that same day but they said I wasn't allowed to swap to it, and I'd be marked as a vaccine refusal if I didn't take the AZ offered. I know how you feel though as I am quite panicked since having it. I'll be glad when the four weeks are up! Feel very jealous of people who were able to get an alternative.
randomsabreuse · 19/05/2021 16:36

I wasn't allowed AZ today (too young). Got sent to Glasgow Mosque to get Pfizer instead. Just had to go after 1 and they had a list of those sent from elsewhere.

prettybird · 19/05/2021 17:12

20 year old ds has just got his vaccination (Moderna) up in Aberdeen. Had to queue for an hour and a half at the Tillydrone Hub, after NHS Grampian promoted that walk-up vaccinations were available. He's very happy Smile

FlippingBottleFlippers · 19/05/2021 17:24

I got AZ last Monday (aged 47 Forth Valley), my 21 year old and DS got Pfizer today! He works in a popular restaurant located near the vaccination centre and they were contacted today and asked to refer any staff who hadn't received first dose. I am delighted as its a really busy restaurant so he comes into contact with loads of people on every shift although it does seem strange that we are only a week apart!

PufferFishGoneWrong · 20/05/2021 09:00

Every time I check the calculator the date changes to a later date.

Grellbunt · 20/05/2021 11:14

I'm now stuck in the position of being willing to have a vaccine but unable to choose which brand so in limbo.

Grellbunt · 20/05/2021 11:37

@colourchanginglipstick

That's interesting. I wasn't marked as a refusal (I don't think). That's very coercive. I'm uncomfortable with the lack of recognition of increased risk for 40ish females.

PufferFishGoneWrong · 20/05/2021 13:49

Just got my letter for the 27th.

Flossy05 · 20/05/2021 19:27

I (46 and female) reluctantly accepted the AZ just after news broke that under 40s would be offered an alternative.
The reality is that health officials want us all vaccinated so if you refuse AZ you will be offered an alternative. You might just have to wait a bit longer.
I am a public health scientist so I like to think that I have a pretty rational approach in regard to risk/benefit but I would have preferred one of the others.
I was quite reassured by the doctor who gave me the vaccine, he told me just to be vigilant of the clot symptoms and seek help if I had any concerns at all and that early treatment was key.
I am however still over analysing any slight headache!

Sorry I haven't read the full thread but this just showed up in active after me receiving my invitation by text 10 minutes ago. I filled in this form not expecting to hear anything and within 5 minutes I had my appointment. Sorry if its already been posted I just thought it was worth mentioned when I seen the thread in active.

JackRabbitSlimsTwistContest · 20/05/2021 22:07

Are Scotland really behind or something ?
We still don’t have any letters 38 & 39.

Sick reading that England is now inviting 34 plus to book theirs online.

None of our friendship circle have been invited yet either , same age bracket.

randomsabreuse · 20/05/2021 22:22

Check for a late letter via the missing appointments thing mentioned above. I'm 39 and had my jab yesterday as did a friend ina different Scottish region who is a couple of months younger.

Scotland seems to be being way more thorough than England - efficient motivated people in England are getting their vaccines sorted quickly but the overall percentage uptake isn't quite as good
