The SNP oversaw the development of prison policy that places violent males in female prisons, ignores both incarcerated women & female prison staff as 'stakeholders' in a policy developed by Scottish Trans Alliance (who wilfully misrepresent the law on discrimination & 'strategised' using the vulnerability of female prisoners to enforce male inclusion beyond prisons) & have stalled a review of that policy for more than 2 years.
Humza Yousaf recognised the vulnerability of refugee women who have been subjected to male abuse, and understood why single sex facilities for those women are vital. Women who have no recourse to public funds are particularly vulnerable. Yet has done nothing about the women incarcerated in Scottish prisons, also just as vulnerable, also with a high proportion having endured male violence, including sexual violence. Rhona Hotchkiss (ex corntonvale prison governor) has described how she's been contacted by both male & female prison staff, upset at what they are witnessing in terms of the impact that having male prisoners in the female estate is doing to the female prisoners. The SNP/Sturgeon have made clear they couldn't give a shiny shit about vulnerable women in prisons. Their mental health/vulnerability to self harm/addiction/suicide ideation isn't a vote winner. Nappy wearing male fetishists on the other hand...
People voting Tory because of the SNP's disdain for vulnerable women aren't doing it because they think the GRA reform will be dropped or the HCB will be repealed. It's about getting voices into Holyrood that can challenge the direction of travel on this coming from every other party, where women can get their perspectives included. Questions asked by MSPs can help & can draw out important information/details needed for judicial challenge, which is where this is all heading. Any MSP of any party willing to ask Qs in women's interests is what this is about. Not literal overturning legislation.
Maybe some people think others views on voting is literally an expectation of the Tories championing women's rights. Personally, I don't think anyone here is that naive. Politics isn't ever that straightforward or simple. I think tactically voting, because the SNP are unreasonably stubborn on their ideological agenda, doesn't suggest people are stupid or claiming manifesto pledges that don't exist. It's a reflection on how angry women are over how the SNP have manipulated & bulldozed over women in their pursuit of their regressive progressive & how they'll even vote Tory in desperation to try and push back on this.
The SNP will do their SNP 'thing' and pretend that women who vote Tory in response to the SNP's disdain for women, are just ignorant, or fools, or 'right wing bigots anyway' & continue to ignore women's concerns. Because they are arrogant enough to think they don't need to consider women's concerns.
For what it's worth, voting Tory is a step too far for me. But I'm certainly looking at my options tactically.
