LexMitior do you actually know what status the guidance of the SG is? In legal terms?

I crossed "the border" (gasp) today (permitted reason) and above the A1, the rent-a-mob were back with their Scottish flags and banners hanging above a bridge on the Scottish side. It was quite hard to read but the banners had different messages, one of which said something like "Defend our Parliament" and "Scottish parliament is enough" or words to that effect.

Baffling. Is the SNP now feeding rent-a-mob some line about the Scottish Parliament being endangered? Or are they worried about people like us talking about a second chamber and maybe the Scottish Executive bicameral? Who knows!

Incidentally, I've never met an SNP supporter with a full time job. To be fair, I haven't met that many SNP supporters, but still...

oh my God, are you actually for real?

as I say, your views sum up exactly why we need independence and why your likes must never ever get control of Scotland - I really shudder to think of it.

I might have known you would put as outlandish a spin on it as possible. You are so easy to bait.

I literally said I only knew a very few SNP supporters. It is remarkable though that of the few I do know, barely any actually work, not even in a part time capacity.

Shudder away!

LexMitior · 23/04/2021 16:22

Actually the constituent voters for all political parties in Scotland (Alba weren't a thing when this was done) with respect to No and Yes is dealt with in some interesting detail here

scottishelections.ac.uk/2021/03/02/long-read-the-four-tribes-what-are-they

No clear indication either way

Maybe this is why Alex Salmond said before last ref independence had to be got through before benefits were devolved - sorry no link, this was said privately - but indicates he knows a lot of his supporters at that time
were unemployed and we’ve all read about the 3 rd and 4 th generations unemployed in central belt who know how to game the system . They also exist all over Uk so they aren’t unique . However independent or not they will never work . We live in an incredibly benevolent country - let’s think long and hard before blowing it apart . I’ve mentioned before the Irish that tell us we will end up with just the same “ old shite” but without the money and trigger a huge brain drain . 400, 000 left Eire in 50s .

Staggering.

Re the Glasgow Life closures.

RedactedTaeFeck · 24/04/2021 15:35

So they didn't get it wrong, they just didn't give further details and now Glasgow Life are speaking to the communities involved to try to provide alternative facilities.

Utter Tory bile. The ignorance and bigotry of Unionists seems to know no bounds

StarryEyeSurprise · 24/04/2021 16:21

Maryhill Library isn't closing as such- it's moving across the road to the gym. I've not looked into the others as don't know them as well. Just thought it might help allay the fears of closures for some.

As far as politicians dancing goes he's an international leader already (seeing as previous competition with Teresa May). But he's a good mover!

Nice one, Sarwar!

WouldBeGood · 25/04/2021 10:47

Loving Sarwar dancing 😃

NS on Marr: confirming no plans or economic analysis for the practicalities of independence. It’s just ridiculous, though it does explain why I’m never able to get answers to my questions on this.

CirclesWithinCircles · 25/04/2021 11:11

I was quite taken with the dancing to be fair. At least he doesn't look like he's got a rod jammed up his backside.

SempreSuiGeneris · 25/04/2021 11:14

Dad dancing and shoes you can groove in for the win.

Or we could just keep teetering on the brink in our stilettos missing out.

That's because they know that if they told the truth about the economics of it then only the zealous fanatics would vote for Indy. Scotland clearly would be worse off economically otherwise they would be shouting it from the rooftops.

Same as the currency question, they don't answer as there is no solution that doesn't have significant downsides for Scotland.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/04/2021 12:38

The lack of economic plans is simultaneously staggering and yet unsurprising

Could both sides maybe stop with the sweeping statements about each other? I'm a unionist but I'm not a bigot, most of us aren't. Indy supporters get very fucked off with being called thick or racists, as do no voters at being called rich tory bigots.

WouldBeGood · 25/04/2021 13:23

Yes @StatisticallyChallenged seems fair.

I actually feel happier now I know that my quest for answers at this point is fruitless as there are none as yet.

Graffitiqueen · 25/04/2021 15:25

Think we discussed a Scotland-England border on scotsnet a while ago. Well here's confirmation from Sturgeon that there would have to be one.

www.heraldscotland.com/news/19257527.nicola-sturgeon-admits-independence-mean-practical-difficulties-border/

Wonder what that poster with family in England who campaigned for Indy, horrified at England becoming "foreign" under covid rules thinks about that...

SempreSuiGeneris · 25/04/2021 15:58

Chris Musson has a follow up twitter thread on the 50+ Glasgow public buildings not reopening.

To summarise. The original story was correct. The rebuttal from GlasgowLife is all wishy washy plans about potential portacabins and community volunteering.

and that was mainly as a result of the original article.

couldn't agree more. Can we add calling people hateful, brainwashed, describing them as being 'in a cult' and continually telling them to 'wake up' to that? And jobless? Would also be nice not to describe an entire section of society being 'third or fourth generation unemployed' who are gaming the system and who will never work either now or under independence.

Yep I remember being challenged that no border would exist..... Ummmmm yep there it is!

My family live in England no chance I want a border. I've also friends in Ireland who used to regularly drive to NI to get food shopping as it was so much cheaper than Ireland a few years ago even with petrol (they used to drive nearly 2 hours each way!)

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/04/2021 19:12

It wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list @happygolurkey, just a small selection of insults. If you want me to start listing all the insults lobbed at unionists I can but it seems rather unnecessary.

The point is that the two groups need to stop "othering" each other. That sort of shit is how civil wars happen (and no, I'm not suggesting Scotland is on the brink of civil war before anyone misconstrues) - when countries because so divided that the believe the other group are somehow fundamentally different people and lesser. Whatever happens, whether Scotland stays or goes, there are going to be people from t'other side around for a very long time and this sort of binary categorisation of people as indy vs unionist with a whole bunch of other attributes assigned as a result is incredibly unhelpful.
