gets popcorn.

I'm anti indpendence, but I'd put alba higher up my list than snp and greens (unless alba are anti women too)

Can JC stand in the list if she's an MP? I'd be surprised if she doesn't at least jump parties.

TheShadowyFeminist · 26/03/2021 15:31

@Happinessisawarmcervix

Interesting candidates - Cynthia Guthrie who resigned from the NEC on principle when Murrell wouldn’t open the books, and Eva Comrie who is an amputee and topped the Mid Scotland and Fife list presumably on the BAME/Disability in top slots policy.

I think it will be good for Holyrood to have a pro-Indy party in opposition to the SNP. Hope this doesn’t end up in a Change UK-style debacle though...

The SNP are badly in need of an opposition that can materially impact their tunnel vision on policy and legislation. They've had far too easy a ride on things & grown arrogant with their grasp on power.

It's Indy with no alternative that creates that monster. And with the dire position of the non-Indy parties, it's going to take an alternative Indy movement to challenge it.

It's a fascinating contest we're facing now, and totally unpredictable too. None of us can really say how this will end up.

I'm confused. I get the aim of strengthening the case for an Indy ref with a bigger majority of pro Indy parties in the Scottish parliament.

But would the SNP govern in a coalition with the Alba party if need be? I can't imagine NS wanting to do that after AS' recent actions.

If this gains traction (which I think it will) it’s going to decimate the union parties in Holyrood.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 15:35

I might have to turn on the news at this rate. Placemarking.

They might not need to. Constituency plus greens might still get them a majority

The “no dual mandate” rule is an SNP one not a Holyrood one.

So yes, Cherry could - in theory - stand on the list for ALBA while retaining her Westminster seat, but she would need to leave the SNP to do it.

Sadly it seems that the SNP has left her so I wonder if she is considering it.

At the moment her priority must be her health, I hope she is well again soon. No-one should have to put up with threats to their safety for doing their job.

DivGirl · 26/03/2021 15:37

I’m watching the Q&A on YouTube just now. I’m not a Salmond fan (or a Sturgeon fan, or an independence supporter) but he is an excellent speaker and it’s an excellent strategy. If the SNP really want independence they’ll get behind this.

RaspberryCoulis · 26/03/2021 15:38

Anything which contributes to the nationalist vote imploding is good news in my book.

Happinessisawarmcervix · 26/03/2021 15:39

Nominations to stand as an MSP don’t close until the 31st March.

This is likely to help nat, not hinder
RonSwan · 26/03/2021 15:42

Decoy list alert! Salmond and Sturgeon are really best pals after all and the last two years have all been an elaborate ruse to get a pro-Indy supermajority through playing the list.

Ok...ok...but....I feel like nothing would surprise me at the moment.

LookAChicken · 26/03/2021 15:45

Yes, it may all work out very well for them!

riverrunning · 26/03/2021 15:57

Was wondering the same ronswan but imagine the infighting of the two Indy parties 'working' together after all this.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 26/03/2021 16:06

Salmond has a hard core of supporters for sure but he lacks the intelligence and support of Ms Sturgeon
He’s largely irrelevant & has a preoccupation with his ongoing grudge with Ms Sturgeon

midnightkit · 26/03/2021 16:07

@fandabbydoozy unless Alba are anti women? Their leader is AS Hmm

TheShadowyFeminist · 26/03/2021 16:07

Oooh 👀👀👀

"Salmond says there will be some "substantial women" coming forward as candidates for Alba."

🍒? 😁

PMK & @Statistcallychallenged your posts are excellent.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 26/03/2021 16:20

Joanna Cherry is very able she'd certainly be an asset

fandabbydoozy · 26/03/2021 16:23

Don't like Alex Salmond as a person but he was cleared of all charges.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 26/03/2021 16:26

Yes he was, and there’s little value in murky conspiracy theories or whitabootery
Of course, unless you’re the sort who live for and love a rumour and conspiracy theories
SNP is better under Sturgeon she’s a v capable FM. Demonstrably so

midnightkit · 26/03/2021 16:31

Cleared of all charges yes...

SempreSuiGeneris · 26/03/2021 16:44

Demonstrably in what way?
